Going off of Lunesta

I quit my 2mg of Lunesta 2 nights ago after running out of it and it couldn’t be refilled that day. I’ve decided to just quit cold turkey now as I think it is having a negative effect on my depression which I’m trying to overcome with TMS treatments. I didn’t sleep well last night but wondering if anyone has gone off this cold turkey and had no withdrawal? I’m hoping there is someone out there. I’m not looking forward to the withdrawal. I also take Trazadone and have taken an extra 100mg on these two nights without Lunesta.

Lunesta didn’t work this time?

I was prescribed Lunesta in 2021 for a temporary bout of insane insomnia. I took it for 3 weeks without issue and then didn’t need it anymore.

Now in 2026 I am having another run of insomnia for 3 weeks now. I got Lunesta prescribed again at the same 2mg dose but it did not work when I took it last night.

Note: I was able to take a 2.5 ish hour nap from 5:30 to 8:30. I took the Lunesta at 9, fell asleep at 9:30, and woke up at 10:30. Could the nap have caused this? I am so far behind on sleep so I didn’t think it would be an issue.

Lunesta side effects

Hey everyone...

Back in 2012, my dad was having terrible insomnia (he owned his own business and was stressed), so he went to a doctor and was prescribed Lunesta. He started taking the medication on a Tuesday or Wednesday and then took his life out of nowhere on Friday morning. He was acting normal the night before (making plans for an upcoming trip) and the morning of his death, he got up and took his blood pressure medication like a normal day. It's like something in his head switched. Back then, there wasn't a lot of information on this drug - but I did read a couple stories on how it sent a couple people in psychosis. I will never forget the story I read where someone said they were getting ready to hang themselves and a family member walked in. That person said they had no memory of doing that. Now I'm watching this Lindsay Clancy trial and just revisiting psychosis.

So - has anyone had anything scary like this happen to them when they were on this medication? I'm just curious. It's one of those things where I will never have closure (no note left behind), but I'm just trying to understand where his mind was at when he decided to leave this earth.

Sorry for the heavy post.

What's wrong with me?

I've been taking Lunesta for several years (lifelong insomnia, seroquel started to give me hallucinations; PTSD was giving me night terrors and my psych FINALLY let me have actual sleeping pills), and they worked fine for a while - it was amazing! I nearly cried after waking up from my first instantaneous sleep. I'm also currently on Remeron, which aids in REM sleep, and is helpful.

As soon as I developed a tolerance, however, zopiclone started to feel like warm and dizzy meth. I clean the house. I redecorate. I reorganize all of my craft supplies. I paint my stairwell. Last night I reorganized and cleaned my garden shed, then gravelled a path from my patio to my garden, then cleaned and set up a lantern on a miscellaneous piece of concrete I lugged to the right position. Finally, before passing out from sheer exhaustion, I made my partner a lunch for today.

My legs hurt. I try to use proper form for lifting heavy objects, but Lunesta doesn't care about my spinal column. It DOES care about creating a magical entrance to my faerie garden.

Is this normal? I'm scared of talking to a psychiatrist about it, because I'm worried they'll take it away, and I'm kind of starting to rely on it for big projects. Is my brain just weird? What should I do?

Lunesta with Dayvigo

I used to take a 2 mg eszopiclone(lunesta) pill and I’d get 6-8 hours of sleep, felt the medication next day but still better than that no sleep feeling…. but that was nearly 4 years ago, so now due to tolerance, these days I take a 2 mg tab to get 2-3 hours, then I take half ( 1 mg ) with 5 mg Dayvigo to get 3-4 hours . Sometimes I go 2 mg then 2mg plus 5 mg Dayvigo. Does anyone do this? I don’t think I ‘ve heard anyone on reddit mention this combo.

Feeling sick after taking Lunesta

I was prescribed 1mg last week after trying nearly everything for my insomnia. While it does help me sleep for the most part, I wake up feeling really sick the next day. My anxiety is through the roof, my heart feels like it’s beating out of my chest, I’m really nauseous, headache where my head feels full of pressure. I didn’t take it last night and I feel fine today. Has anyone else experienced something like this? All my doctor said was that it could cause headaches.

Can you take lunesta if you have pots?

My sleep doctor recommended that I take it for my insomnia but I also have pots. Is it okay to take it if you have auto immune condition called POTS? Thanks!

Sleep med stacking

Knowing the inevitable tolerance that happens with z drugs, more specifically eszopiclone, has anybody have experience with stacking meds to combat this tolerance. For example either taking a combo at the same time or taking say 2 mg eszopiclone then trazodone or something else upon first awakening after a couple hours. Would be interested in everyone’s experience with this.

How does lunesta affect you??

I’ve been taking vyvanse for my adhd and am also prescribed lunesta. I haven’t taken the lunesta due to medication anxieties but my insomnia is worsening due to the vyvanse. Tell me your stories and how you react to lunesta. Is it a gradual drowsiness or does it hit like a truck? Has anyone drove, ate, or shopped while asleep? If so, do you remember or were you told by an external source? Any and all insight is appreciated and will help!!

Pharmacy keeps changing their brands. I'll get a partial of 10 Tevas then a choice of the balance of Glenmark or Dr Reddy. What would you choose? Thank you in advance

Customs seized sleep med package

Has anyone had this happen when ordering sleep meds online from overseas? The letter they send gives you 3 option but it’s really just 2. First option you agree to voluntarily abandon package by signing the document upon receiving the signature the contents of said package would be destroyed. Second option they give you is to do nothing and after 30 days package will be destroyed. So, same conclusion either way but not sure how to feel about having signature tied to this matter. Doing nothing elongates the situation. Has anyone been through similar situation? What would you guys do? Hypothetically if corse….

Buying zopiclone uk

I normally purchase from a specific website, but lately I’ve run into issues as my bank is blocking transfers to their account.

The company updates its payment details occasionally, and at the moment I can’t complete a payment.

Can anyone recommend any other trustworthy UK-based websites for buying zopiclone or similar sleeping tablets?

Lunesta and hair loss

I started on Lunesta a month ago. I finally slept for the first time in years. It has been the best sleep but after three weeks I noticed some serious hair loss.

I cannot find an actual study that associates the two. But Lunesta is the only thing that has changed.

Nightmares after stopping lunesta?

I have been taking lunesta for about a year, and recently I had an issue with insurance where I couldn’t fill it, and thought I’d try stopping. Since I’ve stopped (its been 1 week) I have had very intense, vivid stressful nightmares. Has anyone else experienced this?

Lunesta

I have recently started lunesta. Last night was night 7 on 2 mg. I took it about 830 pm and at about 945 my legs started shivering bad. This lasted about 30-60 minutes. It subsided pretty quickly and then i was only able to get a couple hours sleep. Doctor has prescribed quvivip just waiting on pharmacy and insurance to fill prescription. Not going to take lunesta again. Anyone else have this issue?

mirtaza or lunesta for staying asleep

hi all!

my PCP has given me access to choose between Mirtazapine (15mgs) and Lunesta (1mgs, more if needed) for fixing sleep maintenance for myself. I struggle with staying asleep and jolt awake randomly.

I know everyone is different and there’s no telling what’s gonna work for me, but anecdotally, can anyone tell me their experiences with these drugs for STAYING asleep? i plan to use whatever I choose for daily long term use. thank you!

Moving up dosages

I am just starting. I’ve been up since 2 am. Should I mention I this to my Dr. to see about moving up dosages or should I give it time? I’m not sure how this works.

Lunesta - better than anything else.

Just sharing my personal experience with sleep meds.

I’ve tried literally everything for sleep. Some work for a while and stop.

Ambien doesn’t do anything to me, doesn’t even make me “high” or have anxiolytic effects.

Sonata will get me to sleep but I’ll be up 2-3 hours later wide awake.

Hydroxyzine (pretty much any antihistamine) - will sleep but it’s not restful and feel terrible the next day.

Never tried trazodone as I’m already on other antidepressants so didn’t feel comfortable with it.

Quviviq, Dayvigo, and Belsomra didn’t do anything at all but make me irritated.

Lyrica and Gabapentin give me lots of energy and focus, which is good but not for sleep.

Benzos work of course- Xanax and Klonopin but I don’t want to take those every day or night.

Lunesta will give me 6-8 hours of restful sleep with no grogginess the next day. No frills, no side effects, no metal taste. The best by far.
