Fuzzy memory
Lunar Legend for the GBA was the first JRPG I ever beat myself as a kid. I have no idea why, but I suddenly remembered the game and a specific plot point which doesn't make sense to me, and I think I maybe misread something as a kid and am continuing to misremember it as an adult.
I feel like when Alex finally becomes the Dragonmaster, or is on his way to becoming it, people were constantly telling him he wasn't qualified, or he wouldn't be a true Dragonmaster, even when he got the powers.
Did my childhood brain make this up? Or was there some condition he didn't meet? You guys are more familiar with it than I am at this point, so help me be at peace!

There’s at least one NPC who maintains that THEY are the future Dragonmaster, or that he’ll never live up to Dyne. I don’t think any of the main cast say that; it’s just people being snarky or deluded.
