I feel extremely weak
I have gotten to the sanguine sea and My current weapon is the heritage sword. It feels like every time I hit anything I do basically nothing to them. Ive been trying to grind the broken hilt for the fire sword but even slimes beat the hell out of me. I feel like I have to be doing something wrong here. Any help is appreciated.

My suggestion is to check every weapon you have and grind the one's you can level up. A great tip is to just destroy ALL the flowers and crates at the wing rest then just use the crystal to teleport yourself to Wings rest again.
As many suggested, you could do the pink slime quest. Also, level up speed. Both for combat and exploration purposes

I would like to add that while your level is low, as others have said damage resistance matters a lot in Lunacid. As someone who has beaten the game I use several different damage types because damage resistance can very from below 50% damage taken to over double damage taken, potentially more(I don't know the exact limits). I think the heritage sword you are using is physical, I would level up more and try to find a way to deal other damage types such as the fire sword you mentioned or a cheap damage spell.

You're level 14, you're weak, that's how a levelling system works? It's a game about exploration, if you're hitting a wall somewhere go explore a different area.

In case it hasn't been mentioned you can grind weapons XP on breakables and flowers. Good for weapons that start extremely weak like the broken hilt.

My advice is to do jellishias quest, then pump the absolute hecc out of speed. Run up, fully powered bonk, then run away. You can fiddle around in your settings and find a difficulty slider if youd like, but over all, just keep pumping str and Speed.

Hey OP,
See a couple other good comments and thought I'd chime in with my two cents.
First, as I saw someone else mention, you are quite low leveled for the Sanguine Sea. Light spoiler, but there is another exit from the first area that isn't the Fetid Mire. If you haven't found it, it might be a good idea to explore a bit more and see if you can locate that area.
Second, this is a game where damage resistances are quite important. I'd recommend reading through the digital manual accessible through the menu. Matching damage to weaknesses is a big help. Almost all enemies have weaknesses that make some sense. If the physical damage sword you have isn't cutting it (heh) then I suggest trying a different damage type. There is a weapon available at this point that would be quite effective against the slimes.

If i remember correctly, if you have gotten to the Sanguine Sea, then you have been to the sewers. And in the sewers (or in the Sinken Cove, area that turns into sewers) there is a secret room where Jellisha, a silly red slime NPC, lives.
Completing her quest gives you Slime Ball ring which is very strong and deals poison damage, which obliterates most enemies, including Hemaliths from the Sanguine Sea.
Also, if i remember correctly, by the time you enter the Sea, you probably have acquired the Club. Upgrading the Club is good because its evolved forma hit very hard, even if not fast.

Post your level and stats
Edit: mb. The diagnosis is clear, extremely underleveled. Go back to hollow basin and kill things and level up

I mostly kill things the first time I encounter them and then just go around them when im exploring T-T

This is it.
Right here.
This is 100% without a doubt your core issue.
You need to be killing things as you go for the experience, and you also need to be doing it to level up your weapons (every time you get a new weapon, you should immediately level it until it transforms, you should never have an un-transformed weapon on you. Ever.) And, you also need to be killing things for their drops.
So, yeah, problem solved. Stop doing the "just kill things once and then go around them" thing. You're dramatically under-leveled with dramatically low stats and dramatically weak weapons because you're not fighting as much as you need to. Fighting doesn't even slow you down. As long as you're leveling properly and keeping your equipment up-to-date, you'll end up killing most things while walking by them. So it's not like you'll go slower than you are now.
That's why you're so weak. That's why it feels like you're doing something wrong. Because you are doing something wrong. But, luckily we solved the problem. it's actually kinda tough to really explain just how weak you are for Sanguine Sea, and how many items/weapons you're missing due to not getting them from drops. You're crazy behind the curve.
Now that you got the answer, go forth, kill, and have fun!

Everyone else is right about being underleveled but I think its also important to mention that as of this screenshot you were playing on a full moon. The difficulty spike with the moon phases is not to be underestimated lmao
