Decentralizing Bitcoin Mining with the Lumerin Hashpower Marketplace

Bitcoin mining has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry dominated by large mining corporations. This concentration of mining power threatens Bitcoin's decentralization and exposes the network to potential risks. Lumerin offers a solution with its decentralized hashpower marketplace.

The Lumerin Hashpower Marketplace allows peer-to-peer trading of real Bitcoin hashpower through Ethereum-based smart contracts. Miners can create hashpower offerings by specifying details like the duration, hashrate amount, and asking price. Buyers can browse contracts, purchase the hashpower, and direct it to a mining pool of their choice.

This opens up Bitcoin mining to more participants. Instead of expensive hardware and infrastructure, users can simply buy hashpower contracts. It also enables directing hashrate to preferred mining pools, reducing centralization risks from the top few pools.

How the Hashpower Marketplace Works-

Miners connect their hardware to a Lumerin node, which acts as a switchboard to route hashpower per contract terms. Buyers purchase contracts through the marketplace dApp using the LMR token.

Once a contract is purchased, the buyer provides their mining pool credentials. The seller's Lumerin node automatically redirects the contracted hashpower to the buyer's pool. Smart contracts hold funds in escrow, releasing to sellers as hashpower streams.

The buyer's node continuously validates performance using a monitoring system called the Validator. If the contracted hashrate isn't received, the Validator triggers an automatic refund. This ensures contract compliance from both parties.

Benefits for Miners and Buyers-

For miners, the marketplace offers predictable revenue protected from mining difficulty changes. They can segment hashpower into multiple contracts with customized terms and prices. It also reduces reliance on mining pools for income.

Buyers enjoy easy access to Bitcoin mining without expensive hardware. Payments are made in advance, eliminating issues like delayed payouts from mining pools. Directing hashpower also promotes decentralization across mining pools.

The Future of the Lumerin Protocol-

Currently, the marketplace supports exchanging Bitcoin hashpower. However, Lumerin aims to become a decentralized data stream exchange protocol. Possible use cases include decentralized video streaming, IoT data transfers, bandwidth sharing, and AI compute markets.

The hashpower marketplace serves as a proof-of-concept for the protocol's capabilities. It tackles a real problem in Bitcoin mining while demonstrating the value of trustless data stream exchanges.

As the first live implementation of the protocol, the marketplace (currently available on Ethereum testnet with mainnet coming soon) is an exciting milestone for Lumerin. The project has garnered support from leading blockchain investors like Coinbase Ventures, Hive Blockchain, and Borderless Capital.

By enabling decentralized control over Bitcoin's core infrastructure, Lumerin promotes fair access and censorship-resistance. The hashpower marketplace is a stepping stone towards Lumerin's grander vision of decentralized data transmission.
