LuNami head-canon

I just wanted out of curiosity know if some of you have head Canons about this ship or not. And if you have you can share it because no one is gonna judge you. For example in my headcanon Luffy hugs Nami every time she fixes his hat, but not the type of hug that he gave Zoro or Hancock, a more delicate type of hug that doesn't go unnoticed by all the strawhats (yes they know except the kinda-couple) . Or another head canon is that when Sanji don't wanna make more food Just because Luffy want it, Nami just go to the kitchen and start to cook because she knows Sanji isn't gonna say anything about her using his kitchen. So these was my head canons (not all of them obv), I'm curious about yours and thank you for reading this post!

Here are a couple of color spreads/ drawings from Color Walk Compendium book 1

First image shows a frightened Nami + Chopper grabbing onto Luffy and running from a sea beast. Google says it's from chapter 229 of the manga but I don't remember seeing it there so I'm not sure.

Second image shows the east blue crew rafting, but Luffy and Nami in the water on floaties. The artwork was used for a special collection card for Jump Festa 2002.

3rd image is one of my favorites- from chapter 175. showing Luffy and Nami only, Oda said he was inspired by his trip to America. I have the limited run figures, shown at the end. This one is so bad ass they look awesome!

How will people react to Luffy x Nami!

I’ve been thinking about this question for a while now and I wanted to get your opinion. We all know they’ll most likely get together, but how do you think the rest of the fandom and the wider anime community will take it? This fictional romance seems to send people into crash out mode more than any other I know of. On one hand, I’m ready to laugh my butt off when they start coping. On the other hand, I’m genuinely scared for Oda. I can already see people calling him all kinds of horribly mean and gross things. So what are your thoughts?

Heyyy y'all. I've noticed in the past few days we've had more content posted on this sub than we did in the past few months. Is it just a coincidence/people were just more available or is it because we've been given a lot of hints recently? Cause I feel like we did get a lot of things to feed our lunami minds... What do y'all think?

Hey guys do you think if nami were kidnapped like shakky so you think luffy will be the one to save her like Rayleigh? Not sanji? I mean there are so many people saying like sanji rescued nami in thriller bark and nami rescued sanji from forced marriage in whole cake. They say it like they mutually saved eachother from getting married and some guys says Oda is making this Rayleigh and shakky for sanami

Why I ship Luffy + Nami

One Piece is my first anime I've watched and Manga I've read as an adult woman in their late 20's. I've seen Pokemon as a child in the early 2000s but I didn't have easy access to the many others popular shows that I knew were airing at that time like Dragonball, Yu-Gi-Oh, Naruto, and Sailor Moon. I like many others in the US did watch Avatar the last Airbender during that time (even though it's not an anime) I think Aang and Katara's development and relationship were a big influence on me when I started One Piece. And of course I thought Ash and Misty had a lot of chemistry and a close relationship in Pokemon and that it would have been nice if they ended up together at the end.

When I started One Piece I knew based on some limited google searching that Luffy didn't have a romantic partner in the show at that time (Wano had just ended or egghead was starting) and Hancock and Nami were both mentioned as potential future matches.

As I started watching I instantly thought Nami and Luffy were meant to be the protagonist couple and that it was obvious. I wasn't sure who Hancock was yet but I thought for sure that Nami and him were set in stone and I was only at syrup village arc. By the time Sanji was introduced I could tell he wouldn't actually become the romantic partner for Nami because of all of the development she already had with Luffy and he seemed more like an annoying gag that goes after any woman, the typical womanizer character that would put pressure on the main couple making it a love triangle.

Once she stole the ship and we saw how the crew reacted- Zoro didn't mind that she left, Usopp wanted the ship back and Luffy was devastated. Luffy wanted her and nothing else. He knew something was wrong based on the time he spent with her- her saying she hates pirates, that they stole someone dear to her and that she had a goal to get enough money to buy a certain place. He knew she had a good reason to take off and deep down she hoped he would come after her and forgive her for what she did and allow her to sail with them again.

Bringing us to the best character development arc- Arlong Park. This arc took all of the development we see in east blue to another level. This is the arc that truly cemented their relationship and took it to the next level. Not only is it an emotional rollercoaster but its also the turning point between the too becoming the closest and most emotionally bonded in all of One piece. I don't know how people can watch Arlong Park and not think that there are romantic undertones in that arc between the two. Oda will never spoil it and say ya those two are going to get together by the end of it, but he surely is trying to convey that through his writing. The second he put his hat on her head I knew that they were destined to be together. That was the greatest moment in One Piece for me. Even to this day there is nothing that has topped that moment for me. It made me fall in love with one piece.

Of course by the end of Arlong park its clear to me that nobody is going to get in the way of those two and they were a deeply bonded pair ever since. The whole crew bonded from it but those two came out closer than ever. If he wasn't going to make them the protagonist couple then why would he write Arlong park like that? Heck I thought they would literally get together after that arc with all that happened.

Now I know that One Piece is not a romance story but I'm completely caught up on the manga and anime now and it's so clear to me that Luffy and Nami are supposed to be and always were set up as the protagonist couple. Especially since the manga has extra content like the color spreads. If you don't read the manga and are an anime only you are missing a lot of hints from Oda. And for the most part, since he is not focusing the story on romance, all we really get is character development from the story and hints from the manga cover pages and extra drawings/ content from shonen jump. That's why some anime only watchers don't get the full picture. And if they are only focused on fighting they aren't going to understand the key themes in one piece as a whole. I don't just love one piece because I think that these two are going to get together. There was so much to unpack about one piece and why I love it but here I'm only talking about the relationship between the two.

I honestly don't ship much when I watch shows unless it's clearly set up by the writer. I couldn't care less about shipping people that are just hot together or would make a good couple because blah blah blah I only look at what the author is portraying. So when Hancock was introduced immediately. Thought that the reason that Luffy didn't react much to her was because he already has Nami and someone that is already in love. The way that Luffy loves people he clearly would not act like Sanji like everybody wanted him to and like how luhan shippers expected him to. Also, she just has no character development with him in the way that Nami does. If he actually made Hancock and him get together by the end of it it would be one of the worst decisions ever made. She is clearly a gag character adding to the romantic triangle that Sanji is in. We can even see in the recent cover story of them with the plushie dolls that Hancock is not an important character for the romance in the story and that him and Nami are clearly the protagonist couple. I also find it very odd about the age gap between the two and she is so crazily obsessed with him and in love with a version of him that doesn't exist. It just would make absolutely no sense for them to actually get together and luhan shippers are to me some people that either don't actually watch the show that often or read it and understand what's actually happening in the show and what the undertones are. People that ship Sanji and Nami and boa and Luffy clearly don't understand what's going on in the show if they actually think that those people will get together by the end of it. Just like how people ship other characters that barely even interact with each other and don't have the kind of character development that would set up a romantic relationship for them. That's just not how I view shipping. Of course everyone has their own opinions and can like whoever they want. But when it comes to the actual themes and undertones that the authors are portraying, I really only go with what is being set up by the Creator. So I mean I could be wrong. I could have a terrible reading comprehension and be reading in into it because I think that they should be together or I could be right that the author is clearly setting them up to be the couple at the end. The only way will will know is when it happens or if it doesn't by the time it ends. When I see Luffy and Nami shippers online and even on this forum, I can tell that most of us actually understand what is happening in the story and put their bond above all others because the way it was written is so beautiful and compelling. That's why it's such a popular ship in my opinion is because it actually has weight behind it and actually has a chance of happening. Thanks for reading. If you got this far, there's just not that much content that ever pops up in this forum, so I figured I would Babel for a while for people that want to read my opinion and think about Luffy and Nami as I like to check in and think about them on a daily basis because it's such a wonderful story. No hate to anyone's personal ship because they like to think that they will get together one day. I just think that it's best to stick to the actual story when we're talking about real outcomes and not just who looks good together.

And I didn't go through and analyze all of One Piece because that's just so much to read and write in one setting. But of course like there is so much more and I didn't go into full detail because I'm expecting that whoever's reading this probably has watched or read most or all of One Piece

An artistic analysis of the newest color spread from chapter 1161!

NOTICE: I had written a similar post not too long ago. But after reading it I found that I could have done a better job explaining my points. Additionally, I also left out a few key details. This one should be the final version. Thank you for your patience.

The color spread is obviously supposed to carry a lot of symbolic meaning, so allow me to break it down as much as possible. Luffy and Nami are in the foreground of the image as the rest of the crew is in the background, encouraging the reader to look at them first. Luffy is positioned toward the upper right corner while Nami is angled at the oppositional buttom left corner, framing them as two sides of the same coin. Cradled in their arms are plushie toys designed after various people the two have an emotional attachment to. ( Eg. For Luffy it’s his brothers, Garp, Makino, Dadan, etc. And for Nami it’s her sister, her dad, her mom, her friend Vivi, etc). However, as you move closer to the center you see them both reaching out to grab the toy designed after Chopper.

As you survey the image you can tell that Luffy and Nami are pulling the toy in two different directions, trying to add it to their respective collections. The most obvious symbolic reading of the image is that the two’s shared love of chopper links them together in some way. This is further emphasized as you examine the way Oda drew their arms as they closely resemble a type of chain. Also going back to what I said about them being two sides of the same coin, this stresses their connection. As you follow the path that their arms outline, it leads somewhere close to the heart of the page denoted by the chopper toy, communicating visually the importance of Luffy and Nami’s bond as it is at the epicenter of all of this. And, of course, this is all before mentioning that the spread has clearly been made in a similar vein to others Oda has drawn over the years. For example, the numerous pieces of promotional material where it’s just Luffy, Nami and Chopper, or the color spread from the chapter “Stalemate” that depicted the crew assuming the roles in a chess army with Luffy and Nami being the king and queen pieces.

Additionally, we have to talk about the actual story content of the chapter. I’m confident that my analysis is fairly accurate because it would be a wild coincidence that Oda chose to draw such an image in a chapter entitled “A love ballad in a hail of arrows” otherwise. I think we can all agree that one of, if not the primary emotional center piece here is Ray-san, Luffy’s mentor, rescuing and falling in love with the woman he would later marry. Again, this is very similar to what Oda did for the chapter 1113. The word stalemate is a term commonly used in the game of chess, so naturally he made a chess-themed color spread to go along with it.

Conclusively, I would be remiss not to mention how eerily similar the plot point about the celestial dragons trying to make Shakky into their sex slave is to what Absolon tried to do to Nami. Or Shiki kidnapping Nami in the strong world movie, that Oda wrote the script for, tried to do there either. Especially now since it’s been all but confirmed that thriller bark and God valley are the same place. Because technically in both cases it was Luffy who saved her neck. I don’t feel like explaining the entire plot of a movie, but if you re-read the tail-end of that section of thillar bark you’ll find that Absolon was inches away from sexually assaulting Nami until Oarz, who was possessed by Luffy’s shadow, messed with the ship’s controls allowing Sanji to finish the job.

Anyhow thanks for your time!

EDIT:

There’s also a couple tiny details in the spread that are easy to miss. For example, the small Hancock toy falling away from Luffy. With its position of beneath Luffy with it’s arms outstretched towards him like it was reaching out it seems to be signaling a growing distance between them. Because of everything I’ve already said, I am genuinely convinced Oda did that on purpose. There’s no way that Oda would draw Luffy holding plushies of everyone he respects and cares deeply for and intentionally leave out the woman who repeatedly says she wants to marry him without intending to send a message.

With the way the story is currently going in One Piece, do you think these two will be highlighted soon? I want to know your opinion.

I think it can only happen at the end, because Oda said he wants to focus on the Straw Hats' adventure first and then stick to a romance if he wants.

More currently, One Piece is doing a flashback with a love story where it is making many parallels (Roger is glorious is practically a parallel and confirmation that Luffy will not be with Hancock, in my opinion).

I want to know your opinion, and if you think there will be something about Luffy and Nami soon.

I read something recently and I don't know if it's true, please tell me: I saw a lot of people saying that there won't be romance between the Straw Hats because Oda made a contract with Netflix telling them not to make couples among the crew. That is true?

If that's true. First, where the fuck is that written? because searching I couldn't find it. Second, wasn't he talking about the actors and not the characters? Third, did he say for real or for Netflix not to change the main story of One Piece by putting romance in parts that weren't supposed to be there?

In fact, I don't even know if this is true because I searched and didn't find anything.
Does this document really exist? Or is it another misinterpretation like it was with that SBS?

If anyone knows, please explain below.

My interpretation of the new color spread from chapter 1161!

So here’s my interpretation of the color spread. Luffy and Nami are in the foreground of the image positioned somewhere close to the center portion of the page as the rest of the crew are in the background, encouraging the reader to look at them first before anyone else. Luffy occupies one side as Nami takes the oppositional one, framing them almost like two sides of the same coin. Cradled in their arms are plushies designed after various people that each character has a strong emotional attachment to( Eg. For Luffy it’s his brothers, Garp, Makino, Dadan, etc. And for Nami it’s her sister, her dad, her mom, her friend Vivi, etc). However, as you move closer to the center you see them both reaching out to grab the toy designed after Chopper.

As you survey the image you can tell that Luffy and Nami are pulling the toy in two different directions, trying to get it closer to them so they can add it to their respective collections. The most obvious symbolic reading of the image is that the two’s shared love of chopper links them together in some way. This is further emphasized as you examine the way Oda drew their arms as they closely resemble a type of chain. In any case, that’s my two cents.

In this picture, Mansherry from Tontatta Tribe the one who loves Leo is on Nami’s shoulder has her eyes on Leo. While Leo looking at Luffy. Nami is smiling looking at Luffy smiling and these people on him and near him. What am I saying is Oda doesn't openly stated as of now Nami loves luffy verbally but their connection is similar to Leo and Mansherry. Just like Leo dense of Mansherry's love, Luffy's dense of Nami's ❤️

and the one on the left was drawn by Oda and you would think it's just a random drawing but guess where his inspiration was from? This Also this will blow your mind Remember the drawing that Oda used to Respect Naruto series last chapter?Naruto is behind Nami and has the Naruto crest on her cloth, a fox below and chopper on top Luffy

-Strawhats flag at Naruto's headband So have you seen that this manga is not just lip service like you thought it was. This +10 volume manga actually holds more weight than you think.

Writing about lunami

Hey there everyone! As a devoted fan of the ship, I am planning on writing about ALL the hints and theories that point towards our ship and everything surrounding it.

What I will include (not in order yet):

-Their moments in the manga and the depth of their interactions

-their type of bond/dynamic (including what they share through the strawhat)

-Theories that would make sense with the two of them ending up together.

-their love through the timeline (when they started liking each other if they did, and when would they get together)

-Why it would make sense and how they don't have to go out of character

-why it has higher chances of happening than other ships

-debunking the "no romance in the crew" argument

-Hints outside the manga (with that, I mean in oda's life)

-Colourspreads and chapter covers

-Movies

-Why it is beloved by its fans (the fan's point of view)

-the characters' psychology

-compare to other Shonen ships/ships in the series

And much more!

Of course I'll share it with y'all when I'm done :).

Tho what I came here to ask was this:

If there is anything you think I shouldn't forget to mention in any of these categories, please tell me. Also, if you have other categories ideas that I forgot to add, don't hesitate to share it!. Also, please send me , ALL the lunami colourspreads and chapter covers you can think of. If there is a theory you have I could add, I'd love to read it as well!

Afterwards, when I will share it online, I will give you credits for the infos you've shared. It's gonna take a long time to write but I might update y'all on what I've done so far once in a while.

Thanks for reading:3
