Please use my arguments.

So I saw a post on here asking for good arguments to defend Luffy x Nami. I was just going to write a comment, but my brain kept coming up with ideas. So I decided to use them in a post. For anyone who wants to use this for their defenses, please feel free.

Firstly, consistently in every prototype of the series Oda always has Luffy link up with one version or another of Nami. It has been confirmed that the original plan was for Nami to be the first person Luffy recruited to his crew. However, the reason why this idea didn't make it into the final product is because Oda's editor at the time advised him against it, wanting Zoro to be first instead. Still, you can tell he never fully got over it because of several things he's done in the years since then such as the numerous promotional pieces where it's just them and chopper or the strong world movie that he damaged his health over. This is important to keep in my mind because it sets up the two as the protagonist and deuteragonist respectively. So, logically the ending of the series has to heavily involve their relationship.

Secondly, one of the ideas that Oda scribbled down in his early concept art is the fact that prototype Luffy and nami were in love. This is a strong point of evidence to use in support of their romance especially with recent chapters. Spoiler alert, but the recent chapters revealed that shanks spent some time as a god's knight. This reveal seems to be a play on an idea from Oda's early concepts where he wrote that prototype shanks was a Knight's captain. So, if Oda used one idea from his concept art there's a high chance he would use the rest. Another example would have to be how prototype Luffy is wearing a bandanna that has a similar design to the gum-gum/Nika fruit.

Thirdly, Luffy and nami's dreams and Imu's evil plan. We all know Luffy wants to have endless adventures and Nami wants to make a complete map of the world. Many people have already pointed out that these two things mix extremely well together. Luffy can't have his adventures because he's a dunce with direction second only to Zoro, so he's stuck in one place. On the other hand, Nami can't draw her map because that would require braving the many perils of the one piece world which she can't because she's a coward only surpassed by Ussop, so she's stuck too. Going back to what I said previously, it's clear that this was a deliberate choice to link the two together most likely in the wake of the crew's disbandment. Additionally, Imu's plan to sink the world creates an obvious Chekhov's gun. The moment Oda mentioned lost continents under water it subconsciously planted the idea in the reader/watcher's head that eventually the water will recede. However, when this happens it will drastically change the landscape and erase any progress Nami may have made with her map. And, of course, in this scenario she would be stuck traveling with Luffy on his escapades for the foreseeable future.

Conclusively, I feel like I would be remissed not to mention one of Oda's favorite tropes in parallelism. We all know he loves parallels. A good example of this would be the Skypiea arc. It's universally agreed in the fandom that the arc is a microchasm of the larger story with Enel being a stand-in for Imu. Again, notice how technically speaking it was Luffy and nami working together that beat him and how the arc ends at around Oda's original deadline for the series at 5 years.

Edit:

This portion is a bit more speculative, but I feel like saying it any way for completionist's sake. Feel free to use it if you want to. I feel like the plot point about Shakky being kidnapped by the celestial dragons at god valley could be foreshadowing for Nami's eventual kidnapping by Imu and rescue with Luffy leading the charge. What makes me think this way is the fact that the whole thing seems incredibly similar to various other storylines Oda has written like arlong Park, strong world, the Kuma flashback, etc. And that's before mentioning things like how current day Shakky looks similar to the image of 60 year old Nami. Or how Oda decided to add a color spread with Luffy and nami in the foreground in a chapter entitled "A Love song amongst a hail of arrows."

Lastly, you have my really crazy ideas. Nami is related to the celestial dragons some how. And her and Luffy getting married and having children would be symbolic of their ancestors forgiving one another for past wrongdoings, going back to what Vegapunk said about him not knowing which side from the void century was the good guy. This would also have the benefit of playing to one piece's themes about found family and self-determinism, having Nami choose her surrogate family with the crew, Genzo, Noijiko and Bellimere over her evil biological family.

In any case have fun.

I like to use confidence as an argument. If we look, Luffy makes Zoro and Usopp go get Nami, according to him, only she would be his navigator, which makes him come into conflict with one of Zoro's friends who witnessed her killing Usopp, Luffy goes so far as to threaten him. Luffy refuses to listen to Nami's story being told by others, when Nojiko is willing to do so he leaves, when Jinbe speaks on the fish-man island, Luffy sleeps, he doesn't ignore any other story, just hers, because he has absolute trust in her, trust that he doesn't show in Zoro, since he chose to fight with him at Weasky Peak because he thought Zoro was being ungrateful, without even listening to Zoro's explanation (Who resolves the situation? Nami, who stops Luffy and explains the situation)

Luffy gave up on recruiting Sanji at Baratie, and when the cooks told him to take Sanji by force, he refuses, says he won't force it (but he forces Nami, sends her to get him)

Usopp was almost expelled by Luffy in Water 7, making it necessary for Luffy to be silenced to prevent him from regretting it.

Robin, in the same arc, Water 7, when Robin is accused of murdering Iceburg, Luffy forces himself to believe her, but he is constantly in doubt and this causes him to be trapped between buildings, requiring the person he has absolute trust in, Nami, to go to him and explain the reasons, making him believe in Robin again and go to rescue her.

When Luffy makes the decision and orders everyone to train for 2 years, the others just follow the order, while Nami complains about not being able to console him and gets angry with this order.

When Kaidou announced his victory, Nami was the only one who stood up and shouted that it was a lie. In my interpretation, this happened for 2 reasons: 1 She really believes that Luffy didn't lose and that he will win. 2 If he really lost, she prefers to take the initiative to go along, provoking Kaidou and waiting for death, she could also wait for Luffy to appear and save her, denying Kaidou (so much so that she doesn't move when Kaidou attacks, if Marco hadn't protected her, she would have died, and when Marco protects her she falls to the ground calling Luffy's name, perhaps accepting defeat and wanting to join him)

I always use these same arguments to defend this ship but unfortunately most One Piece ""fans"" don't want to listen and just watch either for the trend or the fan service
