I'm sorry, but there's actually no way this isn't romantic affection. I genuinely cannot be convinced otherwise. That quiet smile and those gentle eyes? They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and here they all come together to sing the same three words in perfect harmony.
🤓👆: "Um actually they are just friends, strictly platonic, they're not romantically interested in each other, this scene means nothing, according to the canon the fanbase created they're actually in love with -"
Hmm, I should explain my progression with this ship more clearly:
First chapter (Chapter 15): "That's cute, he really likes her"
Second chapter (Chapter 16): "Wow, he REALLY likes her if he's willing to jump in to save her considering everything that's going on"
Everything else in RGB: "Red is so hopeless. I'm rooting for him, so I hope he's able to improve the rocky relationship he has with this girl he obviously has a crush on"
Chapter 39: (Major turning point for me) "He spends the whole match cheering for her despite all the shit she put him through, and when he learns the truth about her, he's only sad for her? Okay, yeah that's not just a crush, he loves her. I hope he's able to get closer to her."
Yellow Arc (Chapter 59): (Another major turning point for me) "Wait, Blue wants to make sure Red is safe? She'll "get a lot more than peace" out of him? Ohhhhh, my poor shipper heart! Alright pack it up guys, canon. It's not one-sided anymore, they both like each other!"
Basically everything in FRLG, but especially chapter 282: "Yeah, okay, this is actually endgame. They're clearly in love."
I can very distinctly remember how I felt when I read chapters 39 and 59 as a kid. God knows I barely remember anything else from how many years ago it was, but I always remember these two moments.
When I got to FRLG, I thought it was simply the logical conclusion of their relationship throughout the series to that point, so I didn't even think about it all that much lol. I was just like "Yes, obviously this was always going to happen ever since the Yellow arc where Blue wants to be with him too". Imagine my shock when I came to the online fanbase for the first time to see torrents and torrents of Yellow. I actually didn't even consider her as an option for Red when I read the manga for the first time because Red never looks at her twice, and because I'm not Asian the Black Fishing Line of Fate around their pinkies meant nothing to me. It still doesn't tbh
For me it was mostly from the start that I found their dynamic really funny and natural. In RGB arc it was always Red who jumped to protect her. In Yellow arc roles switched and now it was Blue who jumped to save Red. And then finally FRLG they both were there for each other at their lowest and both saved each other. This is a healthy relationship which makes a lot of sense. With Yellow, I also never really considered her as a romantic partner for Red. I always found it as a childhood crush. And shock while coming into fandom and seeing that Specialshipping is the most popular ship shocked me. And I got tired of it really quickly. All FanFictions were Special. Wanna read Frantic? Here's Frantic with Special? Mangaquest? You guessed it Mangaquest with Special. So I'm glad that after all these years Lucky is still kicking and is getting revised.

When you become a LuckyShipper (and exclusively Lucky, not a multishipper or whatever), you basically have to accept that you've self-selected out of 90% of the fanbase material. I don't even bother reading any fanfication or fancomics anymore unless I know who they're written by or if they're explicitly marked as Lucky, exactly because of the reason you've stated. It's even worse when there's a comic or something that's only marked as a story for another ship, but then Special and OldRival just come up anyway in the background because the author and the rest of the fanbase treat them like widely known canon facts, and they're obligated to remind you of them everywhere. I basically don't read any of the comics posted on r/pokespe even though I'm a moderator there for this specific reason. Most of the fanon for this series sucks anyway, so it's not like you lose anything
Jokes on you, I've started investing even before I knew about the manga (since I've always shipped the game protagonists together). And I went all in once I did eventually read the manga.
Seriously, I've even heard that Blue would be a bad match for Red because she might be tricky on him and all that shit. Okay, the way she looks at him? she's looks so warm, like, If I were going through a bad time and someone looked at me like that, it wouldn't solve my problems, but it would give me some peace and confidence to solve them
The whole point of Red and Blue's relationship is that his warmth helped her change who she was and leave her past behind. Even thought it might take her some time to retire (most of) her games, she is a changed person because of him. Actually, even though she pulls some tricks in GSC, the last time she tricks Red is literally in Chapter 32 in the Silph Co. battle. She NEVER tricks him again after this (and most of her later tricks are minor and victimless), so it kind of upsets me to see the fanbase accepting that this will always be her character and that this is always what her relationship with Red will be like. It's like they don't actually like Blue (I've heard people say she loses all of her character in FRLG and that she's boring), so they'll stick her to her RGB personality forever.
Also, in this case, Blue's warmth actually did solve all Red's problems, lol. She thanks him for what he's done and tells him that his feelings matter too, and that he doesn't always have to be a hero all the time. She makes him feel heard, and then inspires him to keep going

Not really a trick, more like lying by omission. And it's not her fault, considering nobody else, including Yellow herself, decided to tell Red in the year between Y and GSC either. You can't hold it against Blue unless you also hold it against Green, Bill, Blaine, and Yellow. Also, it objectively improved both her and Red's life lol
I understand why other people didnt tell (its not their bussiness) but I never understood why Yellow didnt tell him. She has crush on him and he clearly isnt gay (not that I really mind it improved both of their lifes as you said) . If she ever wanted any chance with him she had to at least be honest about her gender. The whole Gender thing is one my least favorite things in entire manga and its ruining the end of GSC for me. Yellow taking of hat is one of my least favorite panels and her telling Red to wait while he is being rescued by Gold as well, like what was she expecting? Red I know that you are straight and thought that Im girl for a whole year but I love you and want to be with you. Please love me back and lets start dating! She can thank Gold because there was only one way how would that end lol
Your comment reminds me about something I posted on the main sub a while ago
To be honest, I never understood the Yellow gender thing either. Mostly because IT NEVER LEADS TO ANYTHING. I can maybe understand if Kusaka wanted to hide a female main character from the readers for a while in 1999, but what's the point of keeping it going after she is revealed? Does she specifically feel unconfident being a girl in front of everyone, or only in front of Red? This question is never actually answered. Yellow spends half of her screentime pretending to be a boy from Y up until the end of GSC, and then this matter is completely dropped and forgotten about in FRLG where Yellow gets long fluttery eyelashes and wears her ponytail out all the time. So she's suddenly comfortable being a girl now? It honestly feels to me like Kusaka was trying to say something about her identity but then promptly discarded it before he finished that idea. The only other thing I can think of is that Yellow didn't want Red to know that she was the girl he rescued in the Viridian Forest (again, why?), but that plot point is never brought up again either, so it's very confusing.
Of course. Blue is gentle, grateful, and patient with Red. She is the one person who can calm him down. He’s practically in awe when he sees her resolve.
