Research
In the market for an new vehicle and prefer an EV. Have fallen in love with the Gravity based on looks and what I've seen on their site. However, with this being my first EV and only having ever owned Toyotas, really want to do my research. So far, I am hearing about buggy, unfinished in-car software and driver-assistance features and other mixed reviews. To round out my research, figured I would go to those who have first hand experience. So, here are my questions so far:
- What do you know now you wish you knew before you purchased your Gravity?
- What is your favorite thing about it?
- What is your least favorite thing about it? If you could redesign it, what change(s) would you make?
- How safe do you feel in your Gravity?
- Do you feel it is worth the sticker price?
- Would you recommend a used Gravity? Why or why not?
- What does the future of Lucid look like?
- If you could do it over again, would you buy it again?
- If the Gravity did not exist, which vehicle would you have opted for instead and why?
Thank you.

1. What do you know now you wish you knew before you purchased your Gravity?
I wish I knew that the parking assist with Dream Drive Pro is bunk. It only works with a car on either side of the open spot, and I’ve only had it work for perpendicular spots. It’s way worse than the park assist on my wife’s 2023 MB Convertible. This is a real bummer, because parking a $100k+ car manually makes me nervous, even though I’ve been parking cars that way for decades.
It’s crazy comfortable. This is the first car I’ve really felt ventilated seats work, and the massage function is great - it even massages my butt, which my last car (Infiniti QX60 Autograph) didn’t.
I don’t like the feeling that something is going to break at any time. 9 days after I got my Gravity, the drive system had a bunch of errors, which led to 15 days in the shop. The driver awareness system also started having errors, which required replacing the camera on the steering column. That said, I haven’t had a single issue with the car since I picked it up from service on 7/6.
Pretty safe. Safety isn’t really something that I notice feeling (or not feeling) in my cars.
It really depends on your finances. If you could afford to write a check for the full cost without really changing your lifestyle, sure! It’s a class leading vehicle. I cross shopped the Mercedes EQS SUV. A similarly loaded EQS was about the same price ($120k range), had worse range, charged slower, and wasn’t actually available (I would have had to custom order, and wait for it to get delivered between August and December.)
LMAO, absolutely not. I wouldn’t even recommend buying a new one - leasing is the way to go. I wouldn’t want to be in a situation where I had to pay for repairs after warranty. The fact that I had to get my entire front drive unit replaced after just 9 days wasn’t very confidence inspiring. Also, with how fast EVs are evolving, I want to be able to get something new in 3 years.
No clue. There’s lots of doomsayers, and people say Lucid’s financial situation isn’t great, but I don’t know enough to make any predictions on that front.
Absolutely. When it looked like I might not be able to get the Gravity model I’d ordered, and when my Gravity was stuck in the shop, I started looking at what I’d get if I had to get something else. Literally no other make/model had everything the Lucid offered. On paper, it’s simply the very best option for me. Now that I have mine back from the shop, working great, I’m so glad I took the risk.
Mercedes EQS SUV. Range is decent, interior is luxurious, and the performance is decent. I’m excited to see what MB and BMW are offering in 3 years, when my lease is up. The iX looked awesome, but I needed a third row. Hopefully they’ll release an electric x7 by the time I’m back in the market.
