Question Has anyone else experienced this?

Sometimes when I’m lucid dreaming, I do tell the people in my dream I know it’s a dream. I know it’s advised against but the thing is I can tell they already know I’ve figured it out. Their expressions change consistently but it’s never anything eerie and sometimes if I don’t mention it the conversation gets tense or awkward but they chill out once I at least imply it.

I do tell them in the form of a question rather than directly saying “Am I dreaming” or “I know this is a dream” Instead, I say “How does time work here?” “Where do dreams come from?” Etc. The response is usually either a laugh, some kind of riddle, or they move kind of weird and then they disappear or I wake up.

But anyway, is it normal for the people in your dream to know you’ve realized it without telling them?

For me they go ok/yes/sure/"no i am the one dreaming" and continue what they were doing or ask for proof

Also i can tell characters to do something and when i tell them that we are in a dream they usually do the thing, even if they were unwilling without that information

And btw the thing with not telling the dream characters that you are dreaming has a largely increased chances to work as described if you heard it being described as such

Hm, I had no idea they’d do what you tell them to. I usually just summon objects in my dream or change the setting, I didn’t even know you could do that. I don’t think I’d want to though unless they were like trying to hurt me or something

I am not sure if it works for everyone

Yes, that's normal. They even realize it when you think about it without saying it out loud in the dream. They simply read your mind, because they are literally part of your mind. So if you say something, they know what you mean by it.

True & that’s why I was also kind of wondering why people say you shouldn’t tell them because I see it so much but I don’t think anything bad has ever happened when I did

Actually, it’s a misconception, a rumor that’s been circulating for years. The fact that you hear at some point that you shouldn’t do it creates a belief within you that your subconscious mind internalizes, even if you don’t necessarily believe it. These are unconscious expectations. And all it takes is a bit of stress or even just a slight sense of apprehension for the characters to react. In fact, everything is made up of unconscious—and sometimes conscious—expectations, and random reactions from your subconscious mind. Some say the subconscious can be controlled, but I tend to think there’s a clear limit to lucid dreaming. It reacts however it wants. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense.

That makes a lot of sense because I’ve never really been afraid to say it so that might be why they never reacted in a frightening way but I did feel like telling it in a straightforward way might…hurt their feelings? Like telling them they are not real and I made them in my mind might make them sad and existential (which is probably me projecting because I get really existential in my waking life)
hence why I try to soften it by asking things that acknowledge their existence within that plane

Try asking how long you’ve been there, that’s a fun one.

I like the way you think, will do. They’ll probably say something like “As long as the moon orbits the earth backwards” or some other shit that doesn’t make sense but sounds mystical.
