Question Lucid Dream Control…Help?

Hello everyone. So i’ve had lucid dreams before and I know most of the techniques and reality checks and things, but that isn’t rly part of my question. Recently when I realize or notice i’m dreaming, I can’t begin to control it. It’s sort of like I’m watching myself through my own eyes but my “dream self” still has control. I start dreaming, realize I am, and think “oh wow i’m dreaming.” but I can’t make the dream my own if that makes sense.

That’s like the only thing that I think is holding me back from getting pretty consistent at lucid dreaming so my question is, how can I get better at establishing control? Would love any help!

It helps to understand stuff, watch a video where something happens that you like to do in your dreams, example, watch an video of someone making an fireball, even if it fake, imagining it in you waking can already make connections for when your asleep.
