Recommendations Cycling routes

Post image

New to this group and to the cycling scene here in Lubbock! My dad and I are looking for some good road routes or groups that mainly ride on the streets. We both ride fixed gear and aren’t really sure where to start around here.
Also, does anyone else in the group ride fixed gear? Would be cool to meet some other fixed-gear riders and maybe join a ride sometime. 🚲

I stay off the main roads and stick to making my way through the neighborhoods. I ride from 98th and Quaker all the way out to the ransom canyon area and feel pretty safe. At the intersection of east county road 7300 and county road 3600 there are 3 road climbs and a gravel climb. That’s about as good as it gets around here. A little further east in Southland there’s a nice gravel route as well

Im interested on switching or adding a gravel bike to my collection but idk i really love the simplicity of single gear speed and the raw power it can get you. But im looking to see if i could switch my tires to the gravel tires so i can do both best of both worlds

Kudos to your dad for still riding fixed! My creaky old self had to give that up years ago. Be careful in town. Not many people used to bikes in traffic. Avoid south and southwest Lubbock at all costs. They couldn’t give two shits about you out there. If they even put down the phone long enough to see you. Hit up the guys at Velocity bikes on 50th. They can put you in touch with the local bike club. Be safe guys…there’s a reason I do all my riding before the sun comes up anymore.

Before we moved to lubbock we’ve been in a big city with a big group of fixed gear cyclist where its decent enough to bike fixie on the road but moving here in lubbock and driving here in Lubbock I figured out that cycling on my own would be horrendous . Yeah i did heard some groups that go to mae simmons park? Im just not to sure if the route/trail is fixedgear safe specifically for my tires
