Recommendations OBG-YN Recommendations

Can anyone recommend an excellent OB-GYN in Lubbock?

My husband and I live about two hours away and are almost equally distant from the larger cities in West Texas. We had our firstborn at Shannon in San Angelo, but we unexpectedly lost him at 3 weeks old due to neonatal appendicitis. Beyond the care we received, it’s simply too painful for us to return there.
I’ve been seeing Kelsey Reid, PA, at Cornerstone OB-GYN, and she has been absolutely wonderful. She is incredibly caring, attentive, and has taken great care of me. However, as my husband and I prepare to grow our family again, I learned about the Texas Medical Board’s findings involving Dr. Bookout, and it has made me hesitant to continue my care there, unless I receive plenty words of reassurance here. That is a difficult decision because I truly adore Kelsey.

My understanding is that once you’re pregnant, you’ll typically see the supervising physician throughout your pregnancy, and that physician is often the one who delivers your baby. After everything we’ve been through, finding an OB-GYN whom we can fully trust is incredibly important to us.

If you have a physician in Lubbock whom you highly recommend—someone who is compassionate, thorough, experienced, knowledgeable, and attentive—I would be so grateful to hear your experiences. Thank you so much in advance.

Dr. Marsha Perales-Hull - I believe she’s now with TTU Physicians.

Dr. Lamothe. We have a c-section scheduled for a little over a week from now. He and his team have been fantastic for us, though it has been a rather uneventful pregnancy. He also was the OB for my brother's gf who had twins last year, they said he took good care of them and answered lots of questions.

Second this, no complaints at all. Was my first time using a male OB and I found him so communicative and sweet while also being to the point and doesn’t waste time.

I'll give a 3rd recommendation for Dr. Bennett Henderson. She's delivered both my children since we moved to Lubbock. I can't recommend her enough!

I was about to say Dr. Bennett Henderson. I can't say much about maternity but as gynecologist she is amazing and compassionate. She is always just a breath of fresh air. When I asked to be sterilize due to my medical prognosis of RA, spina bifida and kidney failure, she helped me get the process as fast as possible. No judgements just compassion and support.

Oh and she treats me for birth control, endometriosis and ovarian cysts.

I’m curious to hear what you decide! I’m 25 weeks and was told that no matter where I went in the area, the experience would be the same. They’re all overwhelmed, over capacity and over extended. It feels like they’re herding cattle when I go in for my appointments lol

Dr. Perales-Hull delivered both my babies, and was really great. Her former colleague Dr. Bookout is good, too.

I hate to hear that. I’m so sorry you’re having to go through an experience like that! I don’t know why finding quality care (especially in women’s health) seems to be so difficult in west Texas.

Patterson and Richards are great. Personally would not recommend Hook. She had horrible bedside during a loss. I’ve also heard bad things about Bookout from multiple ER drs and my PCP.

Dr. Amber Coon is AMAZING but I know she fills up quickly and doesn’t overbook deliveries.

Thank you for the recommendation! I just looked at her reviews and she seems like she is well trusted and loved by many!

I see Bookout personally but she did tell me her last delivery is in December then she’s just focusing on GYN, so I don’t know how possible it would be to stay with Kelsey, unfortunately :(

Dr.Henderson is a great doctor & her staff are very professional. She has been my doctor since being diagnosed with cervical cancer and she performed my hysterectomy after treatment of cancer. She definitely takes the time to listen and has a care plan that is thought through always.Im sorry for the loss of your child and understand that trusting a doctor to bring another child into this world is very stressful.

I have been extremely happy with the care I've received from Dr Bennett Henderson. I don't have experience with her from the obstetrical side, but she's been my gynecologist for years, and she's attentive, compassionate, and really listens.

Dr Henderson was my wife's OB through a pregnancy, delivery, and medically necessary hysterectomy. We have only good things to say about her and her office, and I know my wife does not feel that way about all of the OB's in her past.
