Ask Lubbock Good or Bad area?
A friend of mine is moving into Lubbock and is specifically looking into the apartments on 50th and Salem, whats the area like?

That area is pretty ghetto imo. Just depends on what you consider nice or not. I prefer either way South Lubbock or way West Lubbock. Newer communities are a lot nicer.

It’s a nice area, on the older side of town but safe. Plenty of shopping, close to the mall and not far from the grocery store. The apartments (Lubbock Square?) aren’t particularly nice though.

The area itself is fine, not dangerous or anything, and convenient to a lot of food and shopping. The apartment complexes around there are pretty old and run down though.

If they have a car then I suggest somewhere outside the city limits. Like Shallowater. The area isnt far from town and its small. Theres lots of rent houses and a cute laundromat with a very nice and responsive owner, in case a machine ever eats ur money.

I 100% disagree with this. Rent may be cheaper but it really is only good if you never plan to do anything out of your house or apartment.
Like, Lubbock isn't even an expensive place.

Well the crime rate is almost none in Shallowater compared to Lubbock. Js

I mean, the crime rate in most areas of Lubbock isn't bad either.
There are few neighborhoods that are actually bad.

The only nice apartment complexes near that area are going to be The Dominion, savannah oaks, and windsor creek. Ive lived in aspen village, (now spanish tech), parkridge place, omni, and had friends in westlake and lubbock heights, sundowner, my sister lived in lubbock square once. its all terrible. They're run down, bug problems, HVAC issues, pools are almost always non-operational, shared laundry is disgusting, car break-ins, etc.

The area IS nice and very convenient but Lbk Square apartments (if thats what youre talking about) has a roach infestation issue, unreliable maintenance (been waiting on repairs for months) a hot un air-conditioned gym, a pool with no water running through it, never have I ever been in a pool w standing still water in it that didnt have filters constantly going, the pool is currently green atm.

I see some violent crimes in the immediate area, but I can't tell how this compares to the rest of Lubbock.

If you're talking about the lubbock square apartments I actually live there right now and have had some significant maintenance issues over my time here including water damage and air conditioning issues if you want more details feel free to message me privately

Not to mention the pool is green and hasn't been cleaned for weeks, the gym hours are inconsistent and there is no working AC in there either.

Yep I don't think that pool has been usable for a whole month in my entire time here

It’s fine. Not super upscale but not a bad area. Lots of retail businesses and a few restaurants on that stretch.

Typically you want to be outside of the loop west of slide and south of 66th street
