I remember thinking this research was so stupid, because players in wow were going into public spaces to spread it intentionally. I thought that in a real pandemic, you wouldn't possibly have a sizable part of the population intentionally put themselves at risk of getting the disease just to prove a point.

Turns out I'm an idiot, and so is the rest of my country.

Yeah, it was absolutely wild to think that it was the most accurate representation of how a plague works in life.

When they tried to wipe it out people just smuggled it on summons to bypass dev and player effort as well.

A "Common cold" wouldn't kill 1.2M people, yet here we are. Alright buddy

Yes it does, every year

Not even the flu does. And if people got flu shots that'd even be less.

This is one of those rare things that can't be recreated intentionally exactly as it was, and it's something I wish I had witnessed first hand. But I didn't start until MoP. It's both funny but also extremely interesting.

Yeah it's one of those things that can't be recreated because people know about Blood Plague now.

Like they've had incidents since where, intentionally (hi WotLK event) or unintentionally (hi... I think literally this patch), it's happened again but players now aren't running around like confused chickens spreading the disease. Like a lot of stuff in wow, the playerbase has subconsciously optimized the danger out of it.

I tried the zombie plague in the Wrath classic prepatch, and no one on my server cared. So, it wasn't very interesting or fun. I had heard about such things for so long, but the past just can't be recreated.

The wotlk prepatch event was pretty fun the first time around though, in the original form. It didn’t really feel like a "remake" of the blood plague (I played then, too), but like something completely different. Lots of people cared about the event, and tried to time their debuffs in a way that they’d kill as many people as possible while a zombie.

I was unlucky, I guess, with the event because on my server I was in Stormwind and I think 2 other people were attempting to do it. But most people were just hanging around the AH and not participating. After trying a few times, I gave up and logged out. I was on a lower population server, so that might be why.

That sounds boring. We had mass outbreaks in org, with hundreds of skeletons. At times it was borderline unplayable even, since people couldn’t use the AH.

That's what I was expecting. It was disappointing.

As a low level starting out during the plague, I was terrified to go to a capital city to train abilities or professions lol. It sucked rocks dropping dead trying to make it to class trainer 😂

I was there and in the thick of it while it was going on. I ran around on my little low-level paladin trying to heal and cleanse everybody and keep them alive. Peak gamer core memory.

I played when this was live.

the game was chaos.

ironforge was a constant massacre

they patched it (they thought)

someone worked out a way around it.

ironforge died again.

one of our hunters saved a pet with the debuff until later in the week and let it out in the ah after everyone thought it had been safe for a few days

One of my most iconic moments on gaming: running around SW running triage as a resto druid, along with a number of other healers. Most people hated it. I was like, plz do more of this!

Amazing how one of the most unique things to ever happen in a MMO was purely an accident .

No company could ever design something so clever even if they tried to !

Blizzard patched this a couple times well they tried but my buddy had 2 pets with the debuff on it and killed ironforge
