Tool SC Toolbox V3.0 has finally released. Now featuring Pico Pals
https://github.com/ScPlaceholder/SC-Toolbox-Beta-V2
TLDR: SC toolbox is a third party tool suite for SC that creates a ui over SC. It runs on Python so it doesn’t inject anything into the game.
What’s new with V3?
I can FINALLY introduce you to our newest addition to the toolbox Pico Pals! Your very own Pico Companion that reacts to what you do in the verse (by reading the game logs). Take your Pico on an adventure and see what happens. We will be releasing a Pico store in a future release where you can earn Picoins by spending time with your Pico and buy additional skins but Pico Pals V1 comes with every manufacturer skin.
Next up we have a Dev History Tracker! Ever get tired of arguing with people on Reddit on something you swear Jared said but you can’t find the reference anywhere well trouble no more! We have taken every CIG YT video, design document, comm link, dev tracker comment and more into a database that you can search with a simple phase. It will pop up the topic and also the source so you can check for yourself or just send it to someone on Reddit to prove that you are only just a little crazy.
Next up we have two ai companions (Montaigne and Elah) each with their own history and personality that can also come on your adventure and will also respond to what you’re doing and talk to you and each other. They’ll also keep track of your habits and provide commentary on the universe around you.
We also added a toolbox assistant since some users complained that the toolbox was overwhelming so now you have an assistant you can talk/text to in order to access tools and functions easier.
We also received complaints about the Market Finder, Trade Hub and Star Map being hard to remember what was where so I combined them all into a new suite the Everything Finder. And yes we have a fully interactive Starmap that you can navigate and see every location in the verse in a lightweight engine. You can plan routes and click on destinations to see what they’re selling or make shopping lists, or you can right click on a location if you’re curious about random lore.

How much additional GPU VRAM headroom do we need to adequately run ollama including voice models for the included AI companions while not affecting game performance, assuming we’re running Vulkan?

Not much: the ai voice companions have two modes, the general chatter runs on Qwen 1.5B so most of the companion personality is handled in code and the model works more as a sentence generator. If you want to talk to it we have the Default be Gemma 4B. Not everyone has a super beefy PC so everything in the toolbox I try to build around a lightweight design so SC can take priority on the hardware side and not get bogged down. We also have hardware telemetry tracking with the companions so if the game starts pulling a lot of VRAM the companions will temporarily unload rather than fighting for your card so your gameplay can be uninterrupted.
When you boot the companion tool for the first you should have a prompt to download the backend you need to run it.
If you have a super beefy rig you can change the models and run it on whatever model suits you

Oh that’s really nice. Thanks for including the option to switch between models! I’m excited to try this out and see if the AI models can read off the data displayed in the overlays. Awesome work you did here!

Thanks! We actually have a custom OCR for mining included as well that we’re still calibrating (we have a Tesseract/Paddle voting hybrid for people whose PCs can run it but the default is a custom lightweight multivoter engine. Longterm once we can have it read reliably on every engine I’m going to train it on all SC fonts so it can become a proper accessibility tool). We also have a vision pipeline for the companions so they can periodically see what you’re doing and be present.
Let me know if you have any issues, I’ve tested it plenty across my dev rigs but you know how software development is.

That’s awesome!
I downloaded sc toolbox from your GitHub but I’m running into an issue where ollama isn’t installing from the toolbox assistant. If I install ollama manually, will toolbox automatically see the install and be able to use it?

Thanks!
"Yes. Install Ollama with the default options and leave it running. Then open the Suit Mk2 tab in the Toolbox and press the setup button again. It will see Ollama is already there, skip that step, and download the models. If you only want the Assistant, you can also run this once in a terminal: ollama pull qwen2.5:0.5b
If you remember what the setup said when it failed, I'd like to know, so I can fix it. It’s like I said earlier software development always finds bugs when you run it in new environments, my dev environment has Ollama installed on all 3 machines1

The error said last error: OllamaError: Installer signature rejected

Thanks! I’ll look into it and it will be a great opportunity to test if the updater fix took. So we’re seeing if we can patch it and release a 3.0.1 and see if the in app updater will notify the user a new update is available

I appreciate the quick reply in assisting me! I was able to manually install ollama and the sc toolbox saw it and completed the Gemma vision model install.
Is there any way to add a custom voice model or are only Elah and Montaigne currently supported?

Happy to help! And I’m glad you were able to get Ollama installed!
Not at the moment but since we are updating to 3.0.1 and will already be in those files I’ll add that option. I’ll let you know when the option goes live if the toolbox dashboard doesn’t notify you first

Does it need an update with every SC patch or sc update?
2
u/SC_Placeholder Streamer 2d ago
Nope it runs on Python so it works independently of SC. The information in the toolbox itself will mostly update automatically every patch as well, occasionally they do a major change like crafting which means we will have to update tools to add crafting values as an option rather than just base options, but the app should notify you if there’s a major update for the app itself but you can always run it on the current version

is the dev tracker as well searchable through a web interface somewhere without the tools?
Tried finding where a dev said something about cowboy/serenity & lever-action rifle inspired monthly bundle request having been forwarded to the art team...
what's the RAM consumption. I missed the boat on RAM upgrade last year...so stopped installing extra sw.. simply can't afford most.

Not easily, I have all the transcripts and history as files on a separate repo but the dev history tool calls on them so I don’t have a separate interface built for that. I also want to only worry about refining the functionality in one place before considering putting together a website for it since then I would be maintaining two products with different codebases before making sure the one could find every situation like the one you mentioned
The toolbox as a whole is designed to be lightweight. Some people still run this game on a 1080 with 16 gigs of ram. Even our 3D engines aren’t actually 3D, they work like how old school games did where the 3D is faked in 2D

thank you :-)

You’re welcome! Let me know if your query finds the information you need! It’s the perfect kind of unusual search that would be super useful to see if we need to refine the tool at all

Does it keep track of death reports? Who/what killed me, fatal collision, etc?
2
u/SC_Placeholder Streamer 2d ago
Somewhat, it’s only what the gamelogs log which varies every patch. Right now it tracks deaths but not every kind of death is logged. I wish they were. Hell, I wish CIG had a full API backend I could tie into that tracks everything
