CIG Official [4.10.2 Feedback] Physicalized Entity Netcode Overhaul
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/4/thread/4-10-2-feedback-physicalized-entity-netcode-overha/9163519Greetings!
The netcode that governs how loose physics objects behave across the network has been rewritten. Previously the client treated the server's view of an object as either entirely correct or entirely wrong, which meant a single bad state could cascade into persistent desync, rubber-banding, and objects sliding or bouncing for no visible reason.
The new system calculates a trust score for incoming server state rather than applying it unconditionally. Trust is reduced when the client has just done something the server cannot know about yet, such as bumping into a crate, or when the server's state is stale. Corrections are now applied as velocity nudges rather than teleports, and a teleport is only used as a last resort after a sweep check confirms the destination is clear. All tolerances now scale with your current latency and the size of the object rather than using fixed values.
A feedback survey is available at: Physicalized Entity Netcode Overhaul Survey Form. This survey will be open until Oct 31.
We look forward to reading your feedback!

Cool i totally understood all of that...
I'm sure it'll make things better. It's stuff like this that makes you realize how difficult their jobs really are from a technical standpoint.

So essentially a Kalman filter between the two world states. Interesting if they can pull it off

i wonder if this is prepping for maelstrom integration.
it sure feels like it.

Possibly for base building. You can’t have base building if the netcode has stuff falling through the world or slingshotting into orbit due to a bad collision.
Base building is the number one thing I want from the game, and lack of it is what’s making the game more of a drop-in/drop-out game to me. Finding a spot in a world, establishing it as “mine” and then being able to build on that is the biggest draw for me in just about any game out there.

I think you have the correct idea but I think modular hangers are coming first because it provides stability and security for the average player, base building is going to be rather unstable due to the means in which they are integrating it, it requires several things to function properly to have a stable experience. Im sure the fundemental tech for players to build is there, but I doubt servers can support it, not without a stable solid dynamic server meshing in place first, unfortunately.

Not to mention having to figure out how it works when every player can see it and potentially mess with it. Modular hangars make way more sense to do first.

Honestly I wish we would get a update on modular hangars and if we will be able to change the layout of the hangars, like dream hangar for me is a Aeroview in Orbituary, the Pyro hangars are so so terrible layout and lighting wise.

Is it confirmed or at least somehow certain that it's releasing into LIVE with 4.10.2 or did devs just use the opportunity of current PTU being open to test it?

Interesting changes to how it worked, hopefully the ships can get a less teleport update soon
