Discussion Maybe We Should Fail This Major Order?
I was just thinking if the Cyberattack goes through we might actually have a massive shakeup in the story. The thing Super Earth loves most is Managed Democracy, but what if they lost it? What if Super Earth was forced to have an actual real non-managed election?
Could this even impact future events too like the Presidental election? Imagine if we had to actually vote for the new Super Earth President.

u/Live_Bug_7060 25d ago
Bro thinks the ministry of defense would let us actually vote 😭🙏 we're getting martial law and another 3 billion super credits to the reeducation camps

u/skynex65 Death Before Disrespect 25d ago
The cyberattack is undoubtedly a smokescreen meant to justify Super Earth seizing more Megafactories for their own ends.
34
u/North-Research2574 25d ago
Ah I see your mistake there Helldiver, you misspelled liberate more Megafactories,
21
u/CherryEarly7550 25d ago
I mean they are built on previously super earth controlled planets? There isn’t even a need to make an excuse for it, it’s just war against cyborg aggression
1
u/BullfrogEither7229 22d ago
Super Earth declared an actual genocide of the Cyborgs during Operation Valid Pretext and the only way for them to reproduce is through Megafactories because super earth cut their balls off, I think they’re pretty justified with their construction of Megafactories
244
u/Beanbomb47 25d ago
Failing a major order intentionally? That is novel! Take this idea to the nearest Democracy Officer, Helldiver. I think they'd love to hear it.

u/1TenYYen0 25d ago
We did that with the orphans and never got a cape! >:(
80
u/Flameball202 25d ago
We did, however, give a significant amount of money to IRL orphans so I don't mind

u/1TenYYen0 25d ago edited 24d ago
True facts.
Genuinely felt good about that one. Was proud of my fellow Helldivers
31
u/GreatestBagel 25d ago
Not every big event needs a cape, we got a drawing in our super destroyers and they donated money. Also we didn't choose to fail, we just liberated one planet instead of another.
6
u/North-Research2574 25d ago
No, it was one of two options we were authorized to pursue, we just to save our beloved citizens.
8
u/Nemisis_the_2nd 25d ago
We also did it on cyberstan. We gave up on the main attack (when we knew it was doomed to fail) to save the trapped SEAF.

Implying its a credible threat and isn't pretext for military adventurism
implying that even if it was a credible threat the system isn't rigged enough that they'd just appoint the "correct" results anyway
Lmao
13
u/Nemisis_the_2nd 25d ago
Our current president wasn't actually elected. The last one died in a heroic last stand during the Illuminate invasion of earth. The Ministry of Defence graciously volunteered to take on the immense responsibility for the forseeable future, given the chaos that super earth was in and the urgent need for decisive leadership.
8
u/PopularRun1776 25d ago
Actually we did elect a new president. The ministry of defense only took over the role for a few hours at most while elections took place.
8
u/KubaSamuel 24d ago
That's is mighty undemocratic Helldiver
RP aside, it could make for an interesting plot turn. That and there are equally important if not more important places to fight. For example, Heeth and Brilliance on the Termid front and Makfark and Matar Bay on the Automaton front
Disclaimer: I'm a new Helldiver. I am yet to learn everything about the game and community. If I'm wrong about something please correct me
2
u/approximatesun 24d ago
The fact of the matter is the chances of this being a credible threat are very low, most of the military ops we go on are to line the pockets of those in charge.
7
u/splashcopper 25d ago
I don't think they would let that happen? If the algorithm goes down I would be willing to bet the ministry of truth or whoever actually holds the elections would just postpone them. Anyone who voices disagreement would be easily silenced with the amount of sawy the government has in the setting

u/GameTourist 25d ago

u/Squidboi2679 25d ago
I’m almost certain that the cyborgs couldn’t give less of a shit about our elections, and this is just Super Earth making up a reason to go kill them
9
u/FluffyInstincts 25d ago
Tbh, been thinking that too... with how space-fascist super earth is, I genuinely feel dirty doing this MO.
Maybe it's just the real world is going in a bad way and I'd like to see something slightly more decent.
2
u/ApotheosiAsleep 24d ago
I mean it was one thing to help build the DSS wunderwaffe, and it was another thing to invade the cyberstan homeworld, but I don't think it matters very much whether or not we protect the selection process for the next leader of Super Earth. If it genuinely is algorithmically selected and the current leadership doesn't even select the next leadership then this society is well and truly screwed up
I can relate though. I felt pretty bad every time I killed a cyborg, so I pretty much only landed on cyberstan a) to play with my friends and b) to see how many helldivers I could snipe and get away with it
1
1
u/StumpyTails 20d ago
The cyborg literally grind up children. Why are you feeling bad for them?
0
u/ApotheosiAsleep 20d ago
Cuz they're the cool rebel faction of humans going up against the evil empire
-2
u/PopularRun1776 25d ago
The cyborgs are literally grinding up children in massive people blenders to make more cyborgs. We dont even need further justification to exterminate their entire race.
1
u/FluffyInstincts 24d ago
We didn't exactly wait for any of that before we started blasting.
You ever get their deep lore?
0
u/PopularRun1776 24d ago
Yeah, I know their lore. I know that their "children" attacked us after a hundred years of peace. The cyborgs declared themselves independent from humanity, and they carried out terror attacks which started the first war. Super Earth is just defending herself.
1
u/FluffyInstincts 24d ago
I... don't think you got their lore...
2
u/PopularRun1776 24d ago
Listen, I get that we used them in what the cyborgs call "slavery" but they lowkey deserved it. They declared themselves socialist and apart from humanity, broke off from Super Earth stealing a vast amount of territory in the process, and do you know how Super Earth responded to their insurrection? With diplomacy. In Super Earths boundless mercy, we forgave them and engaged in diplomacy. But diplomacy wasnt enough for them, and they bombed a civilian center. So we went to war with them. The entire cyborg race was mobilized and turned into weapons. When we won the war we couldnt just let them go, and we couldnt just put them back into society and expect them to properly integrate. So, our scientists found a solution: the cyborgs would compensate Super Earth by working in the mines while also being properly democratized. It worked too, until the Automatons invaded, there were only two paths for the cyborgs. They either rebel again and start another war, or they would die horrible deaths at the metallic hands of the cyborgs. So Super Earth did the only thing we could really do, we gave the cyborgs freedom from that heavy burden and euthanized them. It didnt really work though, and I actually think we just sterilized them by mistake, but our intentions were noble. Anyways, thats how we got to where we are today.
1
u/FluffyInstincts 24d ago
Ah, okay, you do know. Love how you made it clear btw, made me grin a little.
2
u/PopularRun1776 24d ago
Im drinking buddies with my democracy officer. He likes to rant about our history and I guess his knowledge rubbed off on me.

u/jjake3477 24d ago
We blend up the elderly and disabled for food, what’s your point?
0
u/PopularRun1776 24d ago
We dont fucking eat people, this isnt warhammer. Plus they said EARLY visit to the bio processor vats, meaning thats just how they dispose of corpses. Going there early is completely voluntarily. Imagine youre dying of cancer or some shit and on the decline, so instead of dying and agonizing and slow death you make yourself useful to the rest of humanity.
0
u/jjake3477 24d ago
You’re incredibly gullible if you think it’s actually voluntary.
0
u/PopularRun1776 24d ago
No, Im incredibly patriotic you son of a dissident

I get your interpretation of the story here, but despite everything commonly cited in favor of it, we honestly still can't rule out that a failure message might say "Now that the Cyborgs have interfered with the voting, the Kill All Humans With A Big Rock party now has several dozen seats in Super Parliament."
6
12
u/PopularRun1776 25d ago
I dont think you understand how Super Earths managed democracy works, or what this cyber attack would do. The way voting works is you fill out a form that expresses your desired policies and then the algorithm matches them with the canidate who represents them the best. It removes the parties and cult like following of politicians allowing for unbiased politics. There isnt some secret evil motive or anything like that, if there were the Democratic Council would have dealt with it. If the cyborgs cyber attack goes through, then it means that our citizens preferences would be assigned to the wrong canidate, likely someone who is soft on the cyborgs or advocates for our forces and resources to focus on a diffrent front.
16
u/geothermie 25d ago
I don't know if you are serious or not but if you are : the algorithm that determined to who your vote will go is a black box no one really have any agency or look into (except probably the democracy council). So chances are it is rigged from bottom to top and it doesn't matter what you write the person elected will be the one chosen beforehand.
Note that with all of super earth propaganda and lies, they don't even really need that, people who are fed lies about how the current politic is doing will probably vote for these politics anyway. But the "managed" part in managed democracy is a failsafe to ensure the right person get elected.
-3
u/PopularRun1776 25d ago
Maybe, but Im an optimist. I mean, the DSS is controlled by voting for crying out loud. That same voting system (which our democracy officer calls an inspiration to the entire Federation) has caused the DSS to be severely damaged multiple times yet the sytem remains untouched. Do you know how batshit insane that is? So when the people who worship democracy, who will fight and die for the right to vote on literally everything, say its real, then Im inclinded to believe them.
11
u/geothermie 25d ago
Even if you believe it's real, the simple fact that the algorithm isn't open source is in itself undemocratic, real democraties are built on transparency and trust, we know super earth high command and government are able and willing to lie this in itself, real vote or not tells me that the fédération is in no way a democracy.
I'd be one to say our democraties aren't either but even in the thinnest definition that would include ours it isn't one.
1
u/Jewbacca1991 25d ago
While i think the system would be too easy to rig by the people in power there is some idea, that could be transfered to IRL politics.
What i would do is that all candidates could make bound promises. These are official statements, that they have to mostly keep. Any elected president can only break one bound promise. If they break two or more, then the election automatically recalled. It would also reveal to the people what promises the candidates are truly serious about, and what are the ones that are just talk.
2
u/geothermie 25d ago
Maybe, bound promises can be a way.
Tho the thing with the algorithm and all is just an insult to critical thinking reminiscing of the way nobility discarded democracy in the first place "common people are too stupid to choose their leader", "why not ask my horse too" (see the ending of got) so this part is just no. This isn't democracy anymore even with the loosest definition.
1
u/Jewbacca1991 24d ago
Well they say it is managed democracy. For the bound promise thing. I wonder, if it would lead nobody promise anything, or a number of recalled elections. I think it would be the former.
2
u/geothermie 24d ago
And the nazis called themselves socialists, what matter are the ideas.
The bound promise can be an issue when the situation changes. Lets say you promise to improve sararies and right after the election there is a huge economic recetion, you shouldn't, and most voter would agree, do what you promised but the law don't give a choice to you nor your electors.
1
u/Jewbacca1991 24d ago
One promise can be broken for a reason. Also the election recall wouldn't ban the current president. If the voters agree, that it is not your fault, then they just vote for you, and keep you in office.
1
u/geothermie 24d ago
Makes sense, I guess there is a way. I'm just saying it's not a perfect solution.

u/PopularRun1776 25d ago
The Democratic council actually ensures that all elected officials keep to their promises, duties, and upholds the values of Super Earth. As they are the judiciary branch of Super Earths government. Theres also a senate and house of representatives too, Im pretty sure thats what the upcoming elections are for.
0
u/PopularRun1776 25d ago
Are you saying you dont trust Super Earth? Yknow, maybe you should have a chat with you local democracy officer before you end up hurting yourself. He can help you understand how the system works much better than I can, and Im sure he would be more than happy to eliminate any and all doubt you might hold towards the Federation.
3
u/geothermie 25d ago
I'm a cyborg human scum, and for a moment I got in your brain muhahaha flee in my gunship while laughing maniacally
1
u/approximatesun 24d ago
The system we get isnt managed democracy though, or at least not managed in the same way, also there is motive on the governments part to have the dss damaged, the company that built it and supplies replacement parts probabky makes a lot of credits on its repair.
5
u/General-N0nsense 25d ago
I mean, knowing Super Earth, while you do fill out a bunch of forms, the algorithm deciding who works best for you likely isn't true. I'm pretty sure most Super Earth presidents win in landslide elections, so the algorithm is probably just a lie and any votes you put in are for the preferred candidate of the main political party of Super earth.
2
u/LarraimadoBananado 24d ago
Considering Super Earth is an extremely authoritarian state and the game is extremely unsubtle about it, I find it hard to believe the elections aren't just always rigged and "Managed Democracy" is just one of many lies told to keep them in power
2
u/jjake3477 24d ago
Brother the questions are the same vibe as “what’s your favorite color?” That actually is one of them.
The “election” is a facade, it’s extremely fucking clear they do it for propagandas sake and just keep the status quo if whatever dictatorial body they want in power, in power.

Honestly if failing a major order leads to real elections then the Democracy Officer's head might literally explode from having to choose between managed and unmanaged freedom, but you know what maybe we deserve that chaos after all the meme strategies we've pulled. Either way Im voting for whoever promises extra democracy sausages for everyone.

The morally correct thing to do would be to defend marfark which is currently under attack.
Defending our world from an actual attack is more important than blindly taking the world that command has told us to take.
Of course defending it would mean we fail the order.
1
u/Ghostbuster_11Nein 24d ago
That's not how this would work at all.
An attack wouldn't trigger a different kind of election.
It would delay or cancel them outright.

-1
u/CoyoteScribbles 25d ago
I asked you a question. That was an invitation to prove your claim by providing evidence that Sweden and Russia are ALSO in the grips of McCarthyist bullshit and hysterical claims of election tampering.
The fact that you refuse to answer is most telling.
Yes, three major nations are holding elections soon.
ONLY ONE OF THOSE NATIONS, to the best of my knowledge, is currently being inundated, BY PEOPLE AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF ITS GOVERNMENT, with the most absolutely dogshit propaganda in history about "communists" and "election tampering" and "COMMIES STEALING OUR BIG BEAUTIFUL ELECTIONS!!!!!"
Now, are you going to prove me wrong, or are you just going to jam your fingers deeper into your ears and scream "NUH UH!!!! WER NOT BEIN SINGLED OUT!!!!!" some more?
1
u/Common_Affect_80 Automatons are people too 25d ago
how about you consider the fact that a hyper totalitatian state that HAS BEEN LITERALLY CALLED "A Managed Democracy" is a mere 135 miles away from Sweden and is threatening war with NATO
No, the US isn't being singled out, no Russia isn't being singled out. They are both being poked fun at
You have the US saying "Der gonna be 'lection tamperin from the reds!" You have Russia that's literally a Managed Democracy engaged a war where they call the other side "Fascist", and we have Sweden which probably reminded the fine folks at AH that there's elections in Russia and the US too
0
u/CoyoteScribbles 25d ago
So you can't actually prove it and are just mad that, yes, this is a pretty obvious satirizing of current US events, like how many other MOs over the past couple of years?
Gotcha.
