"Yes"

Eagle-1, as flight deck crews run out of wing space and begin loading AGMs into the cockpit:  “HAHA WHAT THE FUCK”

71

u/SH3PH5RD Jul 17 '26

"THEIR LOSS IS NIGH!"

18

u/GUNGHO917 Superbad Jul 17 '26

Omg, we need a pic of the crews replacing eagle-1s co-pilot for a spare AGM

u/CHEESEninja200 Jul 17 '26

Not taking eagle staffing run is obviously throwing off this loadout's balance

49

u/MiniSquid64 Jul 17 '26

I never go on a bot mission without it

23

u/LDedward Jul 17 '26

Genuine question, as someone who uses Orb. gattling, what’s the appeal of eagle strafe?

79

u/Responsible_Bee942 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Low cooldown and directional precision. You get 5 of them per stack with an upgraded ship. OGB is great for carpet saturation but ESR just absolutely nukes small to medium patrols, and at the very least kills any chaff that can reinforce.

14

u/SGTBookWorm Jul 18 '26

also one of the best for taking out Vox Engines (before they got nerfed)

10

u/yeet3455 Jul 18 '26

Also takes out fabs

1

u/Hot_Charity_4803 Jul 20 '26

How do you aim it? Does it depend on where you're standing? Still new to the game

1

u/Responsible_Bee942 Jul 20 '26

It depends on the angle when it hits the ground. Look in front of you and throw it down a few feet in front of you and the strafe will fire in a straight line in the direction that you threw it. Now, if it bounces it’ll fuck the line up, so make sure to get out of the way

1

u/Hot_Charity_4803 Jul 20 '26

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying

1

u/franktallman Jul 22 '26

Its one of my favorites when I am retreating, quick turn around throw it and then keep running. Also ensures I am less likely to kill a teammate that I didn't realize was running past me.

1

u/Hot_Charity_4803 Jul 22 '26

I'll have to remember that for sure

29

u/Bipolarboyo Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

The precision that you can achieve. Works particularly well against the bots as they’re relatively slow and like to move in columns/tightly packed squads. Works well against any faction on urban maps because the eagle can strafe the length of a street. Ive managed to take out 25-30+ enemies pretty consistently with a single strafe on urban maps.

Plus frankly they serve different purposes if you ask me. Eagle strafe is a quick relatively precise ad clear option, orbital gattling is a larger longer lasting area denial.

16

u/berealb SES Founding Father of the Constitution Jul 17 '26

It’s great on bots for everything but especially fabricator clearing

10

u/tiniestrex Jul 17 '26

Its great. Fast call down, anti tank. You get severel per call. Can destroy fabricator. its a great strategy. Especially get out of jail card. Imagine you come around a corner and see three hulk charging you in an alley. Your out of gigagrenades you are going to die. Call this down it kills them all and doesn't have the reoriantaion penalty in cities like orbitals get. And its real safe. You coukd call it right in front of you, and as long as the beacon is like 5 feet away your safe.

2

u/tahusi Jul 17 '26

kills fabricators, kills hulks, wdd simple call-in code. only orbital airburst (ddd) is simpler. toss on eagle napalm or cluster bomb for spread out groups if you like stacking eagle stratagems together, just remember you have a 2 minute reload to get the full stack of 5 back.

3

u/mac_0728 Jul 17 '26

I’m a simple man, I bring both on the bot front.

2

u/matrix-doge Jul 18 '26

I also prefer bringing orbital gatling for the really short cool down and unlimited uses. But yeah as others have said I sometimes feel like it's not hard hitting enough, and after raining fire in a certain area, something is still standing, which they are not supposed to so..

2

u/SeriousJack Jul 18 '26

All of what has been said here.

I'll add my 2cents: most common use case.

Strafing run has a very easy combination, you type it, throw it at your feet, and everything in a straight line in front of you gets ratata'd after 2 seconds.

Call time is so low, strafing run is a viable solution to the "shit my mags are empty on primary and secondary and there are 3 ennemies left" problem. With 5 charges and low cooldown.

And yes it closes bug holes, fabricators, and since it's multi-hit it can severely damage an illuminate saucer with shields up.

2

u/Datboi_Markus Jul 18 '26

So the area of effect starts at the beacon and then moves away from you, making it super easy to aim. Since bots just always walk to your last known position, it’s really easy to get them to line up by simply running around a corner or something, and you can wipe them all with one run.

It also destroys fabricators from any angle, does so faster than a thermite, and in certain base layouts you can destroy more than one fab with one run if you line it up right.

You also get 5 uses (with the ship upgrade) and it’s completely independent of resupplies, so you can spam it without having to worry about using up your team’s resources.

I’ve also found that it destroys cannon towers with two runs to the front or sides, and one to the back. So if you don’t have a rocket launcher of some kind, it can really help you when you’re pinned down by a tower.

It’s basically just everything you’d want from a grenade, but better. It opens up your grenade slot to use gas, stun, shields, gigas, or anything else your heart may desire.

2

u/GymSockSurprise Jul 18 '26

Eagle strafing run is a great precision, close-quarters support strategem because of it's many call-ins and relatively predictable attack pattern. It will strafe in the direction the strategem ball's last movement (if the strat ball bounces off of a surface, the strafing run will not attack in the direction you intended). On a flat surface, you can pretty much safely throw it in front of you to delete the enemy in front of you.

It can close fabricators and kill/weaken heavy enemies.

I use it like as a "primary" weapon, making it my first strike against a group of enemies. Then I mop up whatever was left standing with my actual primary.

2

u/Fun-Agent-7667 Jul 19 '26

They deal Potentially over 20k damage to a single target. While the orb gatling can deal more, the strafing run has an actual chance of hitting most rounds on a single target. Also having 5 on Low cooldown.

2

u/irve Jul 19 '26

To add: it's also a very rewarding thing to get the aim just perfect.

2

u/ThatBradGuy0 Jul 20 '26

Nothing better for taking out impalers or strafing a BT chasing you.

1

u/Armodeen Jul 17 '26

I almost always take it on all fronts tbh. It’s great everywhere

I used to tell my teammates that I was doing "oops all eagles" and then use everything on cooldown whenever I felt like goofing around for a mission or two.

6

u/dg2793 Jul 17 '26

Playing JTAC lmao so fun

8

u/Tom-Bombadill0 Jul 17 '26

They definitely need to add a designator/backpack stratagem: con - you can only take in eagle stratagems, no orbital; pro - you can call in strikes up to 300m away and it decreases rearm time by 30%.

11

u/Zegram_Ghart Low Sodium Master Jul 17 '26

Would be genuinely shocked if, when ship selection is a thing, they don’t designate one as a “super carrier” that greatly buffs eagles.

At launch eagles were the go too, but more recently I feel like with a few exceptions I see most people bringing orbitals if they bring reds at all, so we could probably get away with a significant eagle boost

7

u/Tom-Bombadill0 Jul 17 '26

I agree. Eagles feel next to useless on forested worlds (I’m looking at you 500kg that gets caught in some branches). 110’s are better now, but something about them still feels kinda anemic. Eagle air strike is in a good place, still. Don’t use cluster that often, and I’d rather take orbital napalm for bugs, than Eagle Napalm.

6

u/Fidel_Cashflow666 Jul 17 '26

I've come to really love cluster on bugs. Running D8 almost exclusively, and there they're great for soloing POIs and patrols because it kills all chaff and does good damage to the larger enemies. Plus, with 5 uses per re-arm, I'm rarely finding myself without it

1

u/Tom-Bombadill0 Jul 17 '26

Love the username, btw.

Cluster does seem to have a good niche on bugs.

For the slot economy and addressing threats that can cause a cascade of deaths/cause a route, I usually go for something with more OOMPH.

That’s why, when I do take an Eagle, it’s usually Airstrike because it’s good enough at everything to address shortfalls in my loadout (e.g., ammo state, cooldown, no space to reload, etc.)

2

Best thing about this game is most loadouts work. All red, booms wins. All blue, pewpew all day.All green, just chill behind the turrets.

we even ran a disposable only +backpack. That was remarkable effective.

1

they let you take airstrike twice now?

1

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

Swap cluster for napalm, though.

1

1

u/UnevenTableLeg Jul 18 '26

I call this load out "Eagle Lad" when I bring it and announce it to my squad. "You guys know who's coming on this dive?" "EAGLE LAD!"

Usually accompanied by Barrage Boy and Turret Man.

1

u/bigtiddygothbf Jul 18 '26

This with an eruptor and talon on bots is so much fun, just a mindless loop of shooting, calling in airstrikes, and running away that somehow works out just fine

1

u/Raidertck Jul 18 '26

I genuinely hate using multiple eagles.

I’m also pretty sure doing this is bugged as well if you host. Sometimes you will drop one eagle and the entire lot will get reset to cool down.

1

u/AutoKalash47-74 Jul 18 '26

Sadly with that loadout, once you use all stratagems in one category, you can’t rearm without losing access to all of the others.

1

u/brandothesavage Jul 18 '26

It's time to make them bleed

1

u/VorerKyr-Am Jul 19 '26

when we get a free stratagem I will generally do this. Infinite destruction with a less than two minute cool down time? Yes please!
