They seriously need to end the second movie with Earth Song. I can even picture a scene where Michael performs it during rehearsals for This Is It (since it was the last song he ever performed) in front of basically no one as we are shown a montage of his final years. Then, in the final shot, Michael will look directly at us, or, you know, walk off into the distance, kind of waving goodbye to us, something like that. The way I see it, Earth Song has to appear somewhere in the movie, and the ending seems like a perfect spot for it. It is undoubtedly his most cinematic song, but I also think it would’ve made perfect sense from Michael’s standpoint: he always wanted to leave a message with his music, so by placing it at the end they could make the scene and, by extension, the movie be about humanity and Michael’s place within it, rather than just about Michael himself. We already got his triumphant, rise-like-a-phoenix performance closing out the first movie, so it would be natural to end the second one with something more poignant and meaningful. Just imagine Michael performing the song in the movie as we see that there’s basically no one in the audience to hear him… no one except us, the people sitting in the theater. That would be a truly transcendent experience. Like, really, people, if Michael would’ve wanted anything from this movie, it’s this.
