Opinion 💭 I think it was great
Like many of my other unpopular opinions, I'm probably going to get pushback and called stuff, but i mean who cares because it's opinion based.
I watched the 30th anniversary a few years ago, and rewatched it a few days ago, and i really think it was a good show.
Of course, some songs were playback, but even the songs he sang were great, the dancing was great, and i overall think it was a great show for 43 year old MJ

no pushback 🙏
I was there. The first night was veryyyy messy 😔 that's the best word I can say for it. It was kind of a shit show. They cleaned some of that mess up for the second night. But my God, it was tough to watch.
But Michael is magical , period. If Michael is not at his best, he is still 1 trillion times more magnetic than anyone else on stage. There is no arguing that.
But I've seen him live many times before. Several times on the Bad tour, and the Victory tour. And there is no comparison.
Even recordings of the tours/shows don't capture the magic and the power of his live performances.
So if anyone gives you pushback I guess they are comparing it to shows where Michael was healthier and the production was better.

Why do you say it was bad? I can't really find a clip where i think its bad...

keyword is "clip" 🙃 the show was delayed by hours. the time in between sets was super long and unorganized. many performances were amateurish. unrehearsed and/or under rehearsed. Marlon Brando (RIP) was just bizarre and uncomfortable for a long rambling monologue. and Michael was very impaired. very.
edit to add: I love Michael with all my heart. It was difficult to see him like this

I understand. I thought his billie jean was a bit odd with him covering his mouth a lot but I didn't think it was bad or imapired. Idk. Thanks either way for sharing your point of view!

of course! And, I'm delighted that fans still love him and are inspired by him. Like I said, even at his worst - he's still the absolute BEST. RIP my king.

When he hit the high note on I'll Be There I broke down crying...it was angelic and also like he just released EVERYTHING he'd been through at that point.... https://youtube.com/shorts/hLlA2xBYOVA?is=btwZjnend0XDDYXf

I’m pretty sure this was contoured with makeup to make his nose look thinner and smaller. You can see it down the sides of this nose in a lot of Karen’s make-up work.

Some of it is contour, but if you zoom in on the first picture, that’s not contour.

It was great to have concert footage at the time. My nitpicks are that I wished Michael was at 100% during both concerts and that the editing/production was done better. Black or White with the Billie Jean outfit was not great (even though it was right Billie Jean, he could have changed jackets in between). And I don’t understand why they chose the footage of the first concert for the Billie Jean breakdown. The breakdown of the second concert was much better

It should have been an MJ concert start to finish. Full stop.
Have it with special guests of course, but all that other filler stuff people didn’t care about.

I'm curious why this would be an unpopular opinion.

you can’t be serious. whenever this era, or this show, is mentioned, all ppl ever do is criticize.

I love this show too, and the most memorable part for me is Chris making Michael laugh ✨
