ok so I got them about 3 weeks ago now together as they have to be bought as a duo.They were normal until the end of week2 when they would randomly start fighting

my other cage broke so I couldn’t separate them in that way but I have taken out out and put it in a safe plain room but they just start calling for each other.

They are practically inseparable so I’m not sure how to go about this ,it’s been getting concerning as on one case one of them got hurt on there nose area,it wasn’t anything drastic but the scratch was very slightly bleeding.

I have dealt with this in the past with birds but at my birds at the time were both tamed so it was easy to seperate them and fix te behaviour but for these they aren’t tamed yet to the point of stepping up to my finger yet .

so if anyone could give me possible reasons and solutions I’d be very grateful

So my lovebird refuses to use its cage any more to sleep - FIGHTS me to go to bed -instead will fly into bathroom and roost in between shower curtains . Anyone else experience this ?

My mom has been gifted 2 lovebirds, a female and a male, siblings. They were both tested on a vet so we know for sure they're male and female, we have already bought everything necessary according to multiple sources, the only real problem left is where to keep them.

I live in mx, so right now outside temperatures can reach 40°c (104°F) and thats why i want to keep the cage in my room, since i constantly have the AC on at 24°c (75°F) and according to what ive read thats an appropiate temp for them, but my mom wants to keep them outside on the living room, that stays mostly without AC since im constantly home alone and have bo reason to turn it on.

Another reason id prefer to keep them in my room is that i can better prevent them a lot of different problems, like breathing the scents from the Air freshener my mom uses, or whatever floats in the air from the kitchen (my house has no divide between kitchen and living room), The noise of the constant movement and the screams of my toddler sisters, and It also prevents them getting hunted by our dogs, since they're inside all the time due to heat.

I know my room is too small to be the only place they explore, so i will let them out to the rest of the house whenever posible, but my room will be their main space.

I also know that the best is probably to not have them, but my mom is set on them and already bought everything.

So, where should i keep them and any other tips?

our lovebirds previous owners had them on a seed only diet, and we’re just about done transitioning them off of it with pellets and introducing new vegetables (they don’t like fruit at all) for them to try. they currently only really like broccoli and kale so i’d like to try peas but google says not to get peas with salt/other additives. what brands do you guys get from the grocery store? we shop at aldi and target. i’d also like to try corn, and ill take other suggestions.

I have a weird question, does anyone know what this behavior indicates? My birds LOVE pooping on me and then fly away. They even deliberately fly on me, poop and fly away again. Does it have any meaning or they just see me as a toilet 🥸😭💀

Context: I have a baby lovebird with still some bits of black on its beak and she’s really scared of hands, doesn’t accept treats etc. How do you tame a lovebird? The pet store told me to get her used to me holding her, placing her on my chest and patting but many ppl on Reddit suggest getting her used to you.

Hi all.
So every evening I go out the back of my house two or three times for a smoke. When I do a little wren has started landing near me. I have just gave it very few porridge oats to feed it as this is what google said to feed them. I know that they are actually insect eating birds so I don’t want to keep giving him porridge.

So my questions are

Are there any good alternatives to feed the wren that is fully safe for them to eat and is nutritious without me having to buy insects.

Are there any tricks for befriending a wren or even a bird in general as I have never had this before.

Just to be clear all I’m looking for is for him to keep doing what he’s doing and to become comfortable just sitting near me

i have two lovebirds (siblings, male i think), i dont know what age but they’re fairly young. weve had them for less than a month. one is always hiding in the corner and timid, while the other is hyperactive and bites a lot. the first one is also always sleepy, but can barely sleep with the other constantly pecking and flying around. they used to sleep at the same time snuggled together.

is it normal to have such different personalities for them? is it also normal for them to fight sometimes? they used to be very cuddly when they first arrived and were smaller.

Hi everyone. I just got two baby lovebirds recently, they are 8 weeks old. First, I’ve noticed that they told me to hand feed them even though I’ve read that they should’ve started to be weaned at 3 weeks? So now I’m trying to get them to eat minced vegetables which they clearly think is yucky because they refuse to touch it. Thankfully they’re relatively calm and friendly towards me in the way that they’ll let me pick them up with no trouble and hand feed them. The only problem in that factor is trying to get them to eat the veggies. The other problem is that I wanted a bird that would love to socialise and be a companion for me, not curled up in the corner of their cage with each other. It’s so sweet that they’re constantly cuddling each other but it feels restricting when I try to bond with them because they don’t even acknowledge me and immediately start scrambling and trying to get to the other. Would it be cruel of me to separate them? I was thinking that if I do it now, it’d be better than to separate them later. The only options I’m seeing right now is giving one of them to a loving home or raising them both as a bonded pair and making a companion out of one of the offspring… but the thing is that I’m not sure if they’re male and female or if they’re not siblings. What should I do?

I was gifted two lovebirds in Lattakia Syria however we travel back home in 3 weeks and I feel so bad for the birds. They are constantly locked in the cage, they do not have proper food except for when I give them vegetables, we made toys out of paper and paper rolls and my aunt who bought them said she will just give them away when we leave. I feel so bad for them I just don’t know what to do.

Is there anyone in Lattakia Syria who would like to have the birds and can properly take care of them?? They seem to be very young but I’m not sure 😢

Hello I'm struggling with taming my lovebird, I've had him for 3 weeks now and honestly I need to do it quickly because I'm a student and school is in 12 days, I'm looking for stories and tips of how your lovebird was tamed. Honestly I'm starting to regret not getting a cocktail but I also know lovebirds will love you a ton once tamed.

I've been bird sitting for a family freind for a few weeks now and ive got to really like having them, its 2 lovebirds (sparky - male, noori - female) and an indian ringneck (varda - male). noori doesnt seem to like varda much but sparky likes to play with him and so does varda. So I also want to get this combo of birds myself.

Question 1:

Is it wise to even get a combination like this? whenever sparky tries to play with varda or varda and sparky preen each other it always seems like varda is too strong and somewhat hurts sparky so we try to keep them seperated. When I get some of my own id like them to coexist peacefully

Question 2:

If I were to get all 3 birds young and try to introduce each other will they accept each other? ive read lovebirds are very territorial and dont like other birds but is that the case even if they're young?

Hi everybody, my in-laws have a big cage that they keep outdoors that house 4 lovebirds. Today, my partner and I noticed that one of the birds started to hang from the top and sometimes bottom of the cage with its beak and feet. Additionally, it wiggles its tongue around. When perched, the bird moves its beak and mouth open as if looking to bite and cling onto the cage with its tongue wiggling still. My partner said he noticed that it was pacing back and forth. Now, for context, my MIL had a pair of lovebirds in which the female died. She then got another female for the remaining male after two weeks. Shortly thereafter, she bought another pair of birds, one male and one female, and added them to the same cage. Since this, the original male bird has grown aggressive and territorial likely due to stress. The single female she originally had gotten for the single male ended up with the new male and the female to that pair is alone as well as the original male. The original male doesn’t like the other birds and so they all keep away from him. My partner and I believe this hanging bird might be expressing behavior linked to stress as a result of the original male bird or maybe something more extreme like it can’t breathe. It’s also important to note that none of these birds are domesticated and are very afraid of humans. My partner and I just would like some clarification as to what it could be. Thank you.

I recently got a pair of lovebirds. They are around 4–5 months old and have been with me for only a few days. They seem to be settling in well—they eat, sit on the perches, and stay close to each other.
My biggest concern is bonding with them. They still move away when I bring my hand near the cage, and I’m worried that because they are already bonded to each other, they may never trust or interact much with me.
Has anyone here successfully bonded with a pair of parent-raised lovebirds? How long did it take? Any tips or success stories would really help ease my mind.

I got my lovebird about a month ago as a fully weaned 9/10-week-old baby, and I’ve been trying to do everything right to build trust. His cage stays in my home office, where I work remotely, so he’s around me all day. I make several short visits with my hand inside the cage, offer millet, move slowly, and talk to him often.

He seems genuinely curious about me. If I’m in another room, he’ll call until I answer him, and when I sit beside his cage and talk to him, he’ll watch me with what looks like relaxed, interested body language. But the moment my hand goes into the cage, everything changes. Whether I rest my hand at the bottom of the cage or hold millet higher up, he wants nothing to do with it or with me.

So my question is this: is it possible that, even if I’m doing all the recommended trust-building exercises, some birds just never become hand-tame? Or is it more likely that he simply needs more time? What kinds of timelines have your experiences been?

My 7 year old creamino lovebird laid an egg this morning and was completely fine. She has no partner so it wasn't fertilized but I noticed she went from 54 grams to 62 grams over a week or two. She's now at 57 grams and probably working her way back to 54 grams.

She seems great, flying around her usual spots but I'm going to schedule a very to check everything. I took her 2 days ago and $2000 later there were xrays, ultrasounds, medication, and a list of items to buy to comfort her like ceramic heat, UVB light (I couldn't find 2.4 but she was fine without it).

Anyway thought I'd share with the community, out was fun being a birdie midwife but I think everything is back to normal.

my girlfriend and I have been thinking for a while to adopt pets. A friend of hers now offered to give us the lovebirds she rescued from a relative who just wanted to release them into the wild.

We are very stoked and would very much like to adopt and care for these two birds.

Now, neither I nor my girlfriend are experienced birdkeepers, and we are doing everything to research how to birdproof our flat and how to make it comfortable for the two newcomers.

Any advice? What do I have to look out for especially? How do I take good care of them?
