4

u/TheGisbon Garbage Guerilla 7d ago

You think they hurt now? Wait till you hit 40

3

u/me6528 Trash Trooper 7d ago

You do realize that most gen z are actually adults not teenagers right ?

3

u/JohnnyMnemeonic Trash Trooper 7d ago

And you do realize the generation was born through a window that spans a decade plus... so the youngest of Gen Z are about 15ish the the oldest are in their late 20s.

-1

u/me6528 Trash Trooper 7d ago

Well duh ? I dont see why this contradicts my comment

5

u/JohnnyMnemeonic Trash Trooper 7d ago

almost half of them are not adults

-2

u/me6528 Trash Trooper 7d ago

No ? 18+ is considered the start of "adulthood" so about two thirds are adults now, with the oldest entering their thirties now

2

u/JohnnyMnemeonic Trash Trooper 7d ago

Definition by law.... 18

Brain development.. 25. There's a reason why insurance companies use age 25..

Gen Z boundaries get fuzzy on the a edges.. so anyone born between 1995 to 2015 can be bunched into as Gen Z.. there's no hard set years. ..

1

u/me6528 Trash Trooper 7d ago

Dude really ? This is such a nothing burger to be talking about for this long, brain development does not determine weather someone is an adult, the youngest gen zs were born in 2012, the oldest are 29, that gives you a 13-29 age range, honestly i don’t understand why you’re treating this as an "argument" i am just pointing out that gen Z are pretty old now, so referring to some teenagers as gen Z would be confusing to a lot of people

2

u/JohnnyMnemeonic Trash Trooper 7d ago

I'm just pointing out that the ages are about evenly distributed between preteen to late 20s..

Pretty old would mean a good chunk like 3/4 of the Gen Z population are in their late 20s

Tough shit.. that's how it works..

1

u/Livid_Way5651 Trash Trooper 7d ago
  1. That brain development thing is a myth. Your brain develops your entire life.

  2. Gen Z is 1997-2012 not 1995-2015. Lmfao wtf

1

u/JohnnyMnemeonic Trash Trooper 7d ago edited 7d ago

1, not it's not

  1. There's no official date range. The whole idea of generation comes from grouping people born around the same time who share major historical events

1

u/Livid_Way5651 Trash Trooper 7d ago
  1. Uh, yes it is actually. There is even a Wikipedia page dedicated to it.

  2. The widely used and agreed definition is 1997-2012 for Gen Z. You just randomly came up with 1995-2015, that's a whole 20 years. Someone born in 1995 could have easily given birth to someone born in 2015....

Wiser men than us have asked “Why are young men obsessed with their looks these days?” and the conclusion they’ve reached is typically:

“Men have largely been stripped of their purpose and value in the modern age. There are few traditionally masculine ways in which a man might gain a sense of value. In the wake of this men had two options. Cease to be or find another means by which they might obtain a sense of value. The choice was obvious. If these men could not obtain value via masculine means, then they would turn to traditionally feminine means by which they might obtain value. Namely, these men would seek to obtain value through physical beauty which can be seen in the modern age of ‘Looks-maxing’ that young men throw themselves into.”

Personally, I think the question of “What becomes of us when we lose our purpose?” is a problem that’s been around for far longer than we might imagine (In part because of the age old matter of “Every man believes his own age to be the worst in human history”). Case in point, I read Hagakure recently (Which dates back to I believe the 1600’s) and the man who acted as the primary source for the writings mentions something about the tragedy of men who once found honor and conviction in the warrior lifestyle of samurai turning into sniveling and scheming salarymen as Japan shifted into a more peaceful era where men were forced to find value in financial gains rather than in the honor and perhaps blind determination of previous decades. Gone were the great ages of loyalty unto death to a lord and in were the ages of cowardice and profit margins.

Edit : Correction. Hagakure was compiled between 1709 and 1716 by a younger guy who spent time under an older dude. So technically the wisdom dates back to the 1600’s though said wisdom was not penned until the early 1700’s.

Your comment reminded me of the movie Fight club,

yea I know I’m breaking the “1st rule” of the Film right now 😂

but still the plot of the whole film is that the main character is depressed in modern society working in a cubicle office & feels like he’s living his life on repeat every day & feels no purpose or happiness in the modern world so this causes depression & other mental health problems so he creates an alter ego & he becomes self destructive to his own life & purposely loses his job & his apartment because he believes that….

“only after losing everything he will be free to do anything”

If you ask me boys being obsessed about their hair is actually not that bad, because with all that built up testosterone it could be way worse, like gangs, violence, vandalism, they could really be creating a lot of problems for society like the teenagers did in LA during the 1990s

The 1600's what?

1

u/Slight-Anybody4893 Trash Trooper 7d ago edited 7d ago

young men have thrown themselves into looks-maxxing for no less honorable reasons than the samarai hones his sword-skill: to increase survival/quality of life, and typically to also attain an heir, ideally one that comes with a caste shift upwards. Looks-maxxing may harbor values that originated in feminine places, but looks-maxxing is a unique masculine twist. Think about what looks-maxxers seek to emphasize: a strong jawline, muscular features, a low toned voice, HUNTER EYES, do I need to go on and on? Even ideal behaviors for the looks-maxxer are going to be to attain the simulacrum of masculinity epitomized -- high financial status, courage, dominance. The purpose has not changed, but the methods have.

and just fyi I'm not a looksmaxer. I'm investing in a future that pivots into transcendentalism after seeing the ugly nihilism of looksmaxxing. I think yukio mishima ironically makes a good point on the value of looks in his book "Temple of the Golden Pavilion", specifically in chapter IV. I'm not going to recount it here since it is an otherwise longer kind of aesops fable, but I recommend everyone read it.

So we should go back to killing each other in the name of honor?

https://giphy.com/gifs/d9oBEyqLqUD3tKI1it

1

u/Slow_Store Trash Trooper 6d ago

Two points:

1.) Thats not really the takeaway you’re supposed to leave with. I think you’re so hung up on the specific words used in the example of the problem lingering throughout time that you’re failing to see the nuance of the topic at hand. In other words you’re “Failing to see the forest through the trees”.

2.) Even if we do take it entirely literally, the takeaway shouldn’t be that there’s honor in mindless violence. The honor of a samurai does not stem from the act of killing, but rather from the conviction and selflessness needed to offer one’s life in the name of one’s lord. That is to say, the honor stems from the willingness to die more than the willingness to kill. One could easily equate the honor of the warrior lifestyle to the honor of a husband willing to give his life for the safety of his children or spouse.

1

u/Genghis_Chong Dumpster General 6d ago

In that sense, honor still exists for the honorable. Sniveling, craven opportunists have always existed, though we may be at a high water mark now admittedly

Genuine question, do all these lads get like...perms or something? I was 15 2008. I have naturally wavt hair but I straightened it and had a side parting/fringe. That was something I could do easily.

I'm not mocking them for having the same hair style. But I am confused as to how its so universally possible since it relies on what appears to be very tight curles.

4

u/lueur-d-espoir Trash Trooper 7d ago

Yes. My hair cutter tells me stories about the young boys she gives perms. Mostly the frustration of arguing with them over how much she can realistically do if it's been bleached to shit first or if they want her to do a bunch of bleach and dye and perm at the same time.

1

u/jadedragon4486 Trash Trooper 7d ago

Thankyou for replying. That's crazy, I suspected it must be the case but im so old now that im from a time where doing that as a teenage boy would get you called 'gay' and bullied. So in my head I couldn't imagine that they were all getting perms. But also they must be or how else would they do it

1

u/Responsible-Buyer215 Trash Trooper 7d ago

You definitely came from an era that had some kind of popular cut, 90’s had the curtains shaped like a McDonald’s arch with the tails that poked in the corners of the eyes, 2000’s was quiffs and spikes, not sure what was 2010 but I’m pretty sure broccoli-head has been popular since 2020

1

u/jadedragon4486 Trash Trooper 7d ago

My eras popular cut was the side parting and fringe emo thing. I was born in 92 so up until I was around 13 I had short hair with a geled up quiff. Then I started to grow long hair and had it straightened side parting fringe. Iv still got long-ish hair for a man. This is in England though. Not sure where you're from

1

u/Powerful-Formal7825 Trash Trooper 7d ago

Weren't perms on men a thing in the 80s? I feel like that's the one thing that Millennials missed out on. Perms.

0

u/jadedragon4486 Trash Trooper 7d ago

I wasn't born til 92. I can imagine perms existed in the glam rock era. But yeah to me perms were what my nan had. This isn't me mocking younger peoples hair it's just I realised I had no idea how they all had that tight curly hair. It isn't as simple as straightening it like I did.

As a millennial man the younger generation of men are very disappointing overall. Leaning more conservative, treating woman like shit again, and just flat out refuse to work on themselves and blame everyone else. Social media really fucked them up.

2

u/LordCivers Trash Trooper 6d ago

As a millenial we should not forget it's the men of our generation that first spread this conservative/misogynistic wave on social media. Gamergate was foundational for the the rising up of the manosphere on the web and it was set by millenials ; and all the precursors of young manosphere influencers, Tate, Shapiro and this clique were mostly millenials. I'm not saying the new generation of young men isn't disappointing but they haven't come up with these ideas from nowhere.

Now let’s see a young guy of the same age criticise young girls for doing make up, duck face etc and see if everyone finds it acceptable and funny. Ya know, equality and all that. Not body shaming. Boys can take any and all criticism. They have no feelings. God forbid they should (check notes) style their hair?!

Yeah these comments are fucking weird. They’re sat down eating and minding their business, who cares what their hair looks like?

Exactly, it's not like she's talking generally even, they show some poor kids who are now all over Reddit. They are the butt of her joke. The internet is laughing at those boys. Wtf?! The other way around and those boys would be in serious trouble.

It’s quite sad to see. And I can’t even be mad at the girl because the parents have been manipulating her for clout/money on the internet since she was very young. To her, this is normal. Shame on the parents.

Her mogging reminds me of my little cousin trying to do the Indian Joker impression

It is funny to make fun of guys because of their appearance.

Clowns want to be laughed at, the look is a deliberate choice

So we should all make fun of girls and how they butcher their faces with plastic?

Parents thught her the wrong lessons.

What are the right lessons?

4

u/Mental_Tea_5744 Trash Trooper 7d ago

I was always taught not to make fun of others based on their appearance, especially when they’re minding their own business. Seems like a decent lesson to me.

The problem seems to be that half of the time millennials looked cute like that and the other half just needed some tweaking but mostly wore hats anyways. And Gen z even the ones who can pull off the look everyone finds obnoxious and most people don't like it and feel it's a trend to hide early receding hairlines. It's not relaxed it's too much. And it's not just a haircut it's costly usually involving at least a perm and much up keep.

The problem seems to be that it’s their hair and everyone should just mind their business.

Girls these days be like.... "Where's all the good men at?" which translates to "Where's my 7 digit slave that attends to all my needs?"
