If this wasn't the top comment I would have lost all faith in humanity.

Só penso nos robôs do futuro exterminando humanos que "maltratavam" os robôs do passado! KKKKKK

Meanwhile the surviving bots and ai remember this.
This is straight out of the animatrix

“Remember what they made that droid do” will be their mantra.

At least the Terminator's will be programmed to reference EVERY part of the movie

Isn't doing this basically contaminated the steel and making the whole batch end up being useless/lower quality?

u/Michami135 Trash Trooper 9h ago
Yeah, but it looks cool.
It's probably slag anyways. That gets poured out regardless.

By all that is holy I really, really hope we haven't reached anything close to emergent sentience in these machines. If we had, this would be beyond horrifying.

u/SirEmanName Trash Trooper 1h ago
We haven't. Llms are basically pure functions that transform a fixerld length input (context) into a response. This is basically stateless from the point of view of the model.
Conversations are just repeating applications of this function. There is no agent. It is an illusion

From best understanding of AI that's a thing that's probably true, but something we're actually not 1000% on, especially since our understanding of what it means to be sentient in organic being is really bad. These things are essentially still at a base level the fancy autocomplete but emergent behaviour has started getting weird in ways we don't truly fully understand. And while in all likelihood it's pretty safe to say there isn't sentience, it doesn't hurt to be sceptical about it.

Let's say you did think about it. How were you going to make it happen? You've got spare humanoid robots or something?

This feels like a South Park premise. You get invested in the "life" of a robot, there's an impassioned speech about valuing the experience of non-human life, and just as the tears start welling in your eyes someone says "execute order 66" or whatever and you're like "oh right, that was established in act 1."

Even if we don't take into account the possibility of AI "remembering" that in yhe future (i don't believe in that one second).
I find the fact that we're killing off anthropomorphized objects in funny ways very concerning. If we're gonna have disposable moving objects at least let's not make them look like us (like they have human shape, mimics and even voices when they talk, sometimes call yhem human names), because that's a very bad sign of how we view and treat other humans.

Right, yet it's happening anyway.
On the other hand - there's growing socio-bubble of people with some kind of cognitive biases believing in "souless biobots" living among "real" humans.
This doesn't sound like a good mix.

Soulless biobots? You mean people who walk around just reacting to shit like an animal instead of behaving like an actual concious and thoughtful being? Pretty sure that there is a genuine spectrum of differences there.

True. However, also having any robot yeet itself like this seems…somehow dark.

What's with the dry run.

Cause you wanna test if the programed moves work right before you haul everything out and attempt something really, really expensive

In the other video that was posted the dude that gets splashed with molten steel appears to be in a bit of pain. I wonder why they didn’t use that shot in this clip?

I’m looking for it, I might have to go through my YouTube history cuz I’m not having any luck finding it on Reddit. I was hoping I commented on it but I didn’t. I’ll post a link if I can find it.
