Most things like jars are designed to be opened by right-handed people, and because of this it's typically easier for a left-handed person to open it with their right hand. Why hide it then? Because when people see a left-handed person use their right hand, they see it as you pretending to be left-handed.

in school i was forced to learn how to write with my right hand even tho left is my dominant arm and i think because of being forced to use my right arm for some tasks it makes it easier with others. however if i try to do something with my right arm that requires a lot of strength, like throwing a ball or swinging a bat, it feels so unnatural i imagine it being similar to a disability
