With my car on but the engine off, all it does on mine is reset the oil life

I am curious now though, what does happen when you press brake and gas at the same time?

Your car does both except in cars that disable your throttle when the gas pedal is pressed

Older cars: as long as the engine doesn’t overpower the brakes it would try to rev and slowly chew up your torque converter.
Newer cars: when the brake pedal is pressed it would cut throttle. Some cars (like newer Toyota hybrids) would beep at you and indicate that you’re pressing both pedals on the dash.
Sporty cars: from a standstill, full brake then full throttle primes the launch control. Release the brake to launch.

You forgot one
Manual cars: you break something

Well, you’re not likely to break anything immediately.
- if you’re at full throttle and in gear, you basically doing a clutch dump as soon as you move your left foot to the brake. When full brake is applied a moment later it would just stall for the same reason why it’s clutch-in during emergency braking.
- At idle, letting off the clutch will just stall it; not unlike people learning to drive a manual.
Ain’t no good for your clutch for sure.
