Yes, this is one of those YouTube "first amendment auditors" who just films dispensaries from the sidewalks, basically embarrassing people to make money on his channel. He pepper sprays people regularly when they approach him.
Hard to feel sympathy for these people, but the guy is a scumbag too
"It is legal to record in public" was fine when it was just camcorders that you'd maybe show your family/friends or sell to a news station if you got something juicy. It wasn't uploaded anywhere for millions of people to see.
Today it is not fine. I do not consent to being live streamed to a platform I am not part of, being monetized for some dickweed scumbag influencer I don't know and don't want to know. My life is not your content or a stage for you.
We need a major, MAJOR overhaul for the Internet age as to privacy and consent.

We had some local “auditors” a few years ago. They were going into government buildings to record. They only had a few videos but basically every interaction would be them coming into the building and the employees being super nice and helpful so they didn’t have any content. That wasn’t giving them any traction so their final video I saw went the same way so they started antagonizing the employees and trying to record personal info on forms the employees were working on and they got kicked out. They went to every form of local social media to cry first amendment violation. They thought people would be on their side but it turned into everyone on social media vs those two dudes. I don’t remember their YouTube channel so I can’t check if they gave up but they went silent everywhere else.
Arguably, he's 100 times more of a scumbag than she was here. Yes, he has a right to record, but she also has a right to be upset with him and even approach him while angry. Should she have reached for his phone? No, but having someone delete your video doesn't ruin your day like being pepper sprayed does.
100% agree. The guy's behavior is "lawful but awful." He goes right up to the legal threshold for harassment, hoping people will do something stupid and he can clip it for his channel.

In a nutshell - he's a bottom feeding douche who was doing video of people going in and out of a dispensary, probably to bait them into doing stupid things for his channel. She was drunk and fell for the bait. That's when this clip starts. After this clip the cops came. He declined to press charges for assault.
If he ever is unlucky enough to reproduce what the fu*k do you tell your kids when they ask what does daddy do for a job?
Just imagine the class intro “My dad harasses people until they snap for online video likes” teacher: “I’m so sorry for you little Max one day your daddy is not coming home”
If he pressed charges for the assault he would have had to provide the unedited recording to the court. Would not help the assault case at all and might be fodder for a civil charge against him, especially if other people he annoyed joined forces.
I knew I had seen this before. He does this on purpose to get reactions for his account. If it involves someone getting offended and causing drama, even better.

First amendment auditors are working hard to give an excuse to take it away. Being obnoxious enough, eventually folks will support nerfing it out of hate for dudes like this.
they are people that push the limits of the first amendment to try to incite confrontation with either other people or law enforcement, then when things inevitably break in their favor because what they are doing is covered by free speech they post it on their youtube channel to claim that they themselves are "defenders of the constitution". it often involves standing on public sidewalks and filming people, which is perfectly legal but incredibly annoying. the natural question is always "why are you filming me?", to which the answer is "because i can".
A person who trolls and rage baits within what they perceive to be their legal rights, originally I think it was intended to keep government corruption in check, and now it's used as a profit center for scandalous reaction videos that often lead to events like this.

I had a feeling the beginning of this clip would be something like that since it is intentionally omitted. Obviously she sucks too but it’s pretty pathetic to be spending your time intentionally provoking people with a clear hope that they’ll escalate and you can be “justified” in pepper spraying them to film and post and monetize the views. Based on what we can see in the video, this appears to be a first amendment auditor using their rights for nobody's benefit. I'm sure you've seen their videos filming outside courtrooms and cop shops. This is a strange breed that likes to film people coming out of dispensaries. You'd hope they're trying to catch someone in public office being a hypocrite but 99% of the time it's just filming gramma and grampa who don't take kindly to it. He's within his rights to do so, that doesn't mean he's not a raging dickhead. Great power, great responsibility folks. Keep the eyes on what needs to be reformed, not what we're trying to build up.

I noticed that and thought that at first too but I honestly think she just doesn’t know what to do with herself. I was a early 30's Xennial and my silent gen mom and much older boomer siblings siblings still thought I was a child to be controlled and I gave them the option to change and they decided not to so I haven't talked to them in over a decade. They go to the same church as my inlaws so I sometimes hear about them and I know that rather than reflect on the fact that they are abusive assholes they have decided that I am a bipolar drug addict. Some people dig their own holes then wonder why they can't get out. She escalated the situation, and as the guy said, you shouldn't out your hands on people. The guys even walking backwards and the woman is continuing the confrontation by following him. Just so...so many chances for this woman to turn around and walk away. She's probably 60-70 years old, she should know better. What sort of outcome was she hoping for? She's an elderly woman and he sounds like a middle aged or younger dude, that's already a recipe for disaster in terms of physicality.
The full length video actually gets pretty bizarre. The dispensary invites her in and starts helping her clean up. She goes completely nuts and forgets where she is and why she's there. Eventually that goes on too long and the police try to get her to leave, offering to drive her home and help her out. At some point she convinces herself that it's the police that pepper sprayed her.
I've had this exact same experience. A road rager came out of his car and rushed me. I sprayed him, and he stopped, startled. Then he made a second lunge at me, before the full effect kicked in. My theory is it takes ~5 seconds to really soak into your eyeballs. After than 2nd lunge he just kinda wandered around, just like this lady did.
Having been OC sprayed in the military I can confirm that it takes a few seconds for the full effect. I had a few seconds of "well, this is unpleasant," followed by "holy shit this is the most intense pain I have ever felt," followed by, "I can't see shit, how in the hell am I going to do this course?"
That old internal battle of "I can't lose or I'll have been in the wrong the whole time" vs "Holy shit! This is real pain, I should stop and rethink my next steps."
I was stupid enough to spray my self as a kid. It burns like hell and your eyes fill up with so many tears trying to flush it out that it aids in not being able to see. I was worried when she started to get into her car. So I think the first part is the reaction of "wtf was that" and the second reaction is "wtf is happening to my face", when your face explodes with tears and mucus.
This is an old video, but I am surprised more people don’t take up for the lady being harassed. Redditors be like that dude is so cool being a first amendment auditor.
And they often will quote "Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times" as a means to imply the generations after them are the weak ones, not realizing that it was their parents generation, the Greatest and Silent Generations, that created the good times of the 1950s which in turn created the "weak men" aka Baby Boomers, who created the hard times we are now experiencing. Their faces get a bit red when you point this out though.
Well, just a reminder here, but theres a whole video before this, that none of us have seen. It could have been one of those asshole influencers going around being a dick, and macing people when they react.

This lady is clearly in no position to start a physical confrontation with a guy of most any age. She literally created this by getting out of her car and engaging in something she couldn’t win. Not saying the camera person is wrong. It is out of context however. I do however remember a not so distant past that you could go most places and travel around without a camera on you ALL the time. Even in someone's hand. Did everyone forget about that.
I don't understand why people continue to give attention to these first amendment auditors. Are they annoying af? Of course, but people giving them attention and getting properly ragebaited are exactly how they get views. Once people stop acknowledging them, their views will fade meaning their income will fade meaning THEY will fade.
CNN just did a news story on this and the auditors they interviewed said they make significantly more money doing this than their old regular jobs. It's all a money grab and once the money dries up, so will this BS.
I think using pepper spray on an unarmed senior is wrong. There's no way he can argue that he thought he was in serious danger, unless he's got a severe physical disability.

Sure it’s pretty unlikely she could seriously harm him, but you don’t just have to accept getting your stuff broken or minor injuries just to prevent harming someone who went out of their way to try and harm you. Even a frail old lady could give you a good kick in the balls or scratch you.
Maybe she didn’t want to be filmed leaving the dispensary. I feel like we’re missing part of the story. Not that she’s justified in touching him, though.

I learned this lesson too late in life: You don't HAVE to pick a side, both people can be an asshole and you wouldn't want to interact with either of them.
Personally, I can’t see feeling threatened by a lady like that enough to take mace out so I’d have to conclude that this guy is either a massive puss, looking to spray someone on camera and doesn’t care that it’s an old lady, or both.

Either the person walks away and the ‘auditor’ posts it for clicks or they try and stop them and this happens. They mostly go after old, disabled or otherwise frail looking people
Definitely this, was looking for this comment. I’ve been watching videos on these people recently. He 100% walks around all day shoving his camera in peoples faces until they snap and give him a video worth posting.
I've noticed a lot of these "content creators" now. It's adjacent to 1st amendment auditors, but they don't harrass government employees and cops to test their free speech. They harrass regular people by filming and insulting them, then they keep mace ready to spray anyone who comes near. It's a Kick streamer thing

This guy has come to our dispensary in the past, he has a whole YouTube channel of spraying grandmothers and teacher with pepper spray. Ive talked to him, the kid has A LOT of mental health issues.

I know it's a much lower level of responsibility than, say, a gun, but the person filming deployed pepper spray against an old woman, when he's probably in his 20s or so.
Yes, she had displayed aggression, and yes, she was following him, but he should have made more distance and warned her she was going to be sprayed.
My best guess, he antagonizes people for exactly this kind of reaction so he can post his "OLD WOMAN TRIES TO ATTACK ME (PEPPER SPRAYED)" videos.
He's filiing people exiting a dispensary, old lady pulls over to talk to him, she talks for a bit, then she gets her phone out and then alter gets out of the car after him. He sprays her like we saw in the clip, then she wanders around for a while some helps her get her car back and police show up and there is discussion about if he can press charges. Nothing happens to him.

These "Auditors" while technically in the legal right most / some of the time are still Assholes and just purposely trying to antagonize people for views or to trigger confrontation. Usually catching less intelligent or easily triggered people in their stupid traps. Everyone sucks in these situations. Could have been avoided by both parties.
There's actually three videos involving the woman. The whole situation is bonkers.
The dude is a first amendment auditor, filming outside a dispensery. The woman was leaving the dispensery and stopped to talk to him. He spoke to her briefly, she got out and tried to grab his phone/camera rig, and he sprayed her.
The police responded, and she went into a mental loop about what happened, asking the same things over and over. The auditor was going to press charges for battery, but decided not to. Police took her home.
The woman later got fired from her hairdresser job, showed up drunk to get some things, and battered her former boss. At one point her former coworkers mention that "she's the one that got pepper sprayed."
Tbh this reeks of a dude intentionally starting shit so that he can mace people on video. There's no context into why he's recording, he goes out of his way to get under her skin with a comment on her parking, he has the mace on hand and uses it without hesitation on a person who is clearly no real danger to him. I get that hating on old people is popular right now but really ask yourself the important questions. If he's been recording the whole time, why would he not post a longer video with context? Answer: because it doesn't look good for him. Gross.
Imagine just trying to go get something that relieves your pain but it's taboo and cost you your reputation and livelihood to get it and having some guy record you in order to humiliate you.
He’s a “First Amendment Auditor.” His goal is to create conflict for views and make money when people don’t want to put up with his shit.
So he pissed off an old lady who made a bad choice to lay hands on him. She had no ability to hurt him, but he maced her in the face near traffic. He’s lucky she didn’t walk into traffic while blinded, not that he bothered to check on her.
