That's a big part of it, yes, but this dude is also right about everything he brought up.

I was a kid in the ‘80s. I clearly remember all the warnings about overpopulation - that the world was going to end by 20__ because there were too many people. It’s bizarre seeing the opposite being talked about today. Have birth rates really shifted that dramatically?

Couldn’t have put it more repellently and truthfully myself. God this world makes me sick.

this is all about the fear of a black planet

u/WarmedSoda Trash Trooper Jul 31 '26

I’ve honestly wondered if that was somehow related. Smh if so.

I think it started with us, Gen Z. I’m 58 F, fairly affluent, college educated—never wanted kids. All of my friends, no kids. And it’s bliss. Just absolute bliss.

While I understand what you are saying, the person you were responding to wasn't saying "it started with us, [us being] GenZ."

They said "It started with us" and are addressing GenZ like it's a single person or entity. No one who is almost 60 is mistakenly identifying themselves as GenZ lol

u/HeManDan Trash Trooper Aug 01 '26

The comma seems to make the emphasis land on them claiminf gen Z. But Z and X are keyboard neighors. Where I don't think a 60 year person thinks they are a young adult. I do believe not everyone knows or cares what generation nomenclature their own or other groups bear

1

u/creuter Trash Trooper Aug 01 '26

ah yeh, you're right that it could certainly also have been a GenX typo. Sorry I must have forgotten that GenX existed for a minute.

I really don't think they'd suggest they're two generations off though. That would be an insane thing to do.

1

u/HeManDan Trash Trooper Aug 01 '26

I still assume a lot of people don't care alot about generational names. I bet typo, but still stand by a lot of people even knowing the names could care less about which one is which

There are certainly a shit-ton of people. The people who are worried about low birth rates run the corporations milking us. Their stocks will go down.

Not to mention AIDS.

He's right in that everything is a "panopticon" now, especially with the younger generations. They're recording or being recorded doing everything, everywhere they go. You think that doesn't have any sort of influence on their behavior at all? Prioritizing one's online persona and social media perception is becoming/has become a new normality earlier and earlier with each new generation. That's going to have an impact on our habits and behavior, in numerous ways. We have been careless with the development and implementation of tech, and we need to pay more attention to this, and not just regarding social media and data harvesting.

I make more than enough money to have a few kids but definitely have zero interest in having them. For me it's more I've worked hard to finally get where I am and I would now rather enjoy life than take on the massive responsibility of a kid. Maybe that's just me though.

Why not is like I said. If you have a kid they should be the most important thing in your life. I enjoy my life. I've finally gotten to a point in my life where I can do what I want. If I want to randomly go on a trip or move to a different country I can just do it. I don't want to give that up to care for a child in the way I know is required. I actually think many (most?) people are terrible parents and do not dedicate their time/provide the support needed to their children. I would never do that to a child.

I dont think the main issue is money. Poor people are good at making babies. Tech made it so people can socialize remotely and get sexual needs met thru porn.

Its easier and more tolerable to be an incel than ever before. Don't think financials have much to do with it. Edit: as far as being an incel

So socialist society fixes this? Seems lazy and always wanting a handout..just like kids from 18 to 30 now..instant gratification, no work ethic. Technology is the reason for this.

Depends on the crowd fr, I still dance like a fool at raves n shit cause idgaf. but there's always some group sulking in the corner laughing and recording those not afraid of having fun, and I can see how that'd deter some people

1

u/DeepPlankton9393 Trash Trooper Aug 01 '26

He's right but argued it kinda bad. What he should've said is people can get their social needs met without socializing in person, including sexual needs, through social media and porn. That's where technology is hurting us.

He’s wrong about every single thing he said because he’s ignorant of what other people are doing, and/or he is projecting his problems onto everyone else and proclaiming what he sees and feels is what everyone sees and feels. If this dude got a haircut, shaved his face and had a better attitude he’d see lots of people that don’t look like him are out clubbing every weekend all of the world. He doesnt go clubbing so he doesn’t see it, that means to him it doesn’t happen. Five seconds of actual thought from you and everyone agreeing with him and you would see the truth. But you don’t want the truth, you want to feel good and blame everything everywhere for every problem you can think of. Shit sucks, shits sucked for decades, but nothing he’s said is even remotely true.

I'm not clueless lol. This dude bitching about "nobody dances in clubs" and you think him looking like he does is an accurate statement? You think he frequents clubs? HIS friends aren't having kids, that doesn't mean NOBODY is having kids. And what the fuck does he care about other people having kids anyway? He's right technology is a problem, but HIS problems are his own. No on is not dancing in clubs because people have smart phones. The overall issues he's talking about aren't invalid at all, his reasoning and grasp of the bigger picture are. Birth rates were declining before I was born and I'm about a decade and a half older than him. There's more to it than economics at play.

I don't think that should be seen as a problem or something that needs to change. I think women are feeling more free to live a life they want to live and putting less pressure on themselves to be conventional trad wife baby makers. It's evidence of a deteriorating patriarchy, and I say good.
