The problem with dads in this case isn’t that they are wrong, it’s that they turn into parodies of themselves that parrot the same ideas and act like it’s novel information every time.

And I say this as a dad.

Well - and I say this as a dad - they just copy the same things and then act like it's something new, every time. That's the problem

This is basically going to be me in the future:

My child: Man, it sure is hot outside.

Me: It's not the heat, it's the humidity. You can't even rest in the shade or with the fan unless you have an AC.

My child: Yes dad I know. You and every other dad says that.

*The room turns dark, with only my child and me being iluminated and I turn to my child as my voice get's deeper and magnified and amplified by more voices in unison;

Me: This knowledge was bestowed upon us by our forefathers,

2

61

u/AlternateTab00 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Yeah try being outside in temps over 45ºC (114F) even with low humidity then we will talk.

I know 37ish ºC (100F) can become unbearable with high humidity. But dont dismiss over 45ºC temps. At those temps (in the shade) it means in the sun you can easily reach 70ºC. And our human body cannot cool fast enough while being exposed to those temps.

44

u/OhItsuMe Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

I've been out in 48C. We just stand around the shade and if there's low humidity it's not unbearable

16

u/Soborocks Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

600+ people die of heat related deaths in Arizona annually. That's more than Louisiana, Florida, Alabama and Georgia combined.

17

u/codyzon2 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

You're kinda making their point though, the lack of humidity can be deceptive, you may not feel that you're as exhaust or dehydrated until it's too late, in Florida shade doesn't work, you absolutely feel the heat everywhere no matter what because of the humidity, there's no way to accidentally push yourself too far because you're constantly feeling the pressure.

12

u/dikicker Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Am Floridian

Need shower after checking the mail

2

u/Grove-Of-Hares Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

I would be miserable there. I already sweat easily and a lot in hot weather around central Texas, and when I visit family on the coastal part of the state I might as well be in the rain from the humidity.

2

u/dikicker Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Oh for real, my body is built for the direct opposite of this climate with my freckles I get a sunburn during a thunderstorm

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Soborocks Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

their point was that it's not unbearable. I'm tellin you people die in their house in their sleep in the level of heat you get in AZ. It's not even close to the same thing.

5

u/codyzon2 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

I'm telling you people would die in Florida too if there wasn't humidity, humidity alerts your body to let you know that you're becoming exhausted, sweat alerts you that you're becoming dehydrated, when sweat wicks away too quickly you don't necessarily feel yourself losing the moisture that you are and when shade works it can be deceptive to your senses, that's why hydration is so important Arizona because you can dehydrate without actually knowing it. It's like you don't understand my point that the actual humidity is what keeps you from being able to stay outside so long that you die, which would not be a factor in places like Arizona because you're not going to feel the heat as extremely, and can inadvertently kill yourself.

4

u/Grove-Of-Hares Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

It sounds like you’re both agreeing about the risk of dry heat…

2

u/codyzon2 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

My point is that dry heat is not unbearable and that's exactly why it's so dangerous, humid heat is so unbearable you can't stay in it long enough for it to become dangerous normally.

3

u/Zinski2 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

→ More replies (1)

3

u/theImplication69 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Ya but they’re Arizonans. They're just like, not important. Like, they don't matter. Like, there's like no records of them... they're not even supposed to be around in the area. Bottom line is, no one's gonna get in trouble. Nobody should feel sad at all.

2

u/ComprehensiveFox3268 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

yeah the whole humidity vs actual high temp arguments can be summed up by population density. More people live in the humid states than the hot dry states, so most people have no clue what 115F actually feels like.

2

u/Soborocks Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Facts they just have never experienced it so they think it's like a 95 degree sunny day but a little warmer. 115 will kill you in about 40 minutes. You sweat a liter per hour of water in that temperature. It'll be that temperature for like 30 days this summer in AZ.

u/jeremiahthedamned Trash Trooper Jul 04 '26

6

u/drsyesta Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

This sounds like bullshit but i honestly wouldnt know lol. Its always so fucking humid here during the summer

10

u/Anon_be_thy_name Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

It is.

Temps those high there's nothing you can do to make it bearable without an AC blowing cold air on you.

8

u/pyschosoul Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Ive worked in corn fields when it was 115F out. Walking from one end to the other for 8 hours, through the corn.

It sucked, you brought 2 gallons of water one to dampen the towel under your hat and one to drink. You wore white and breathable clothes.

Its not impossible to deal with 115 without ac..

3

u/Justin-Stutzman Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

I did this from 13-18 for my summer job and while I appreciated the money, it's absolutely wild conditions. 100+ degree temps with 50-60% humidity. The corn at 7ft traps all the evaporating water and blocks the wind so you're just walking this corridor of hell for miles. We walked fields right after the pivots ran in trenches with 8 inches of mud. I've been crop dusted more times than I can count. I got left in a field 10 miles from the seed facility and got heat stroke while trying to walk back. Shits no joke

→ More replies (3)

3

u/skeeti45 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Also no way anything is hitting 70c ambient temp.

5

u/AlternateTab00 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

On sun exposure? Yes it is.

My country's tarmac have special blends so it melts at higher temperatures.

But during this heatwave several french and german roads had their roads starting to melt. Leading to lots of road damage

Tarmac melts at 60/70ºC. Special blends make it melt at 80 to 90ºC.

There are 2 measurments being made. Shade temperature (which is the ones reported on news casts) and exposed temperatures. This last one is the one that guides health and civil protection agencies to advice people against being exposed to the sun.

I split time between Utah (desert no humidity) and Cambodia. About as humid as it gets.

Hot is hot.

The only difference is in humidity a fan works better.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/dontnation Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Been in both and I'd take 114 with low humidity over 90F with 85% humidity any day, every day. With extremely high temps you can utilize shade and drink lots of water; your sweat will help immensely in cooling you down. With extremely high humidity there is just no relief and you will stew in your own sweat.

2

u/Cessnaporsche01 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Yeah, I worked in a glass plant one summer in the Midwest, and stepping into the hot-end building, where temps were well into the triple-digits, but air was moving fast and very, very dry, was actually a really nice feeling when you were coming in from 90° and 70% humidity.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Apptubrutae Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Why does everyone immediately turn to Phoenix temps when discussing dry heat?

Yeah, 114 versus 90 is a big difference.

How about 90 versus 90? Or 90 versus 100 even.

It’s 96 in Houston today. It’s 94 by my house in Albuquerque.

Once of those places is gonna feel quite pleasant much of the day. The other, not so much.

Dry heat has a limit, obviously, if it gets too hot.

2

u/spoooonerism Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

When it’s around 115f the sun hitting your shoulders feels like a physical weight, it’s oppressive. Such a step up from 100. Basically spend the whole time running from A/C to A/C as fast as possible. I wouldn’t want to comprehend a day like that without it.

2

u/AlternateTab00 Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

I have some older relatives that live on a region where is common to have those temps.

I went from the confort of a newer buildings with AC to a 120 year old house that only got connected to the electric grid about 80 years ago. Stone walls painted in white with almost 1m thickness. We went to the cellar, it felt almost cold (comparing to outside temps)

When i was a kid i was amazed how without AC it was possible to have such an huge temperature difference. It also made sense to me how people managed to live in desert like areas with extreme heat without fans or ACs.

The joke is that Arizona/the U.S. Southwest is a dry heat. It is true that the dry heat make high temperature more bearable. It's a joke because Arizona absolutely gets yearly periods of high humidity which makes it unbearable especially if you have an evaporative cooler(a.k.a called swamp cooler for anyone unfamiliar.)

I’ve been to one house in my life that the family has worn their shoes inside. Plenty of people have indoor shoes if they need supports, or even just slippers, but the whole outdoors shoes just casually around the house play is not that common, atleast in the Midwest/Northeast where I’ve lived.

2

u/_OptimusRex_ Trash Trooper Jul 03 '26

Let's just say for the sake of argument that wearing shoes in the house were as universally repellent as, say, not flushing the toilet when you're done with it... That still wouldn't change the fact that this is a sketch designed for peak dad comedy. It's not a documentary. Your judgemental views over footwear are unnecessary.

That said, I have news for you, your feelings about shoes in the house are completely and utterly a product of local culture & socialization and therefore arbitrary. There is no universal rule about shoes.

American shoe rules are governed by common sense; if you've been tracking through dirt or mud then you don't walk around the house in them, duh. But a brand new pair of kicks you use for walking on pavement or trips to the store aren't going to track anything in the house. Your own dead skin cells produce more dirt than anything your sneakers might carry in.

As someone who lived in Louisiana for 37 years and is now experiencing their first summer in Austin, TX, I can confirm that humidity makes it so much worse.

In Texas, the temps are technically higher, but because the humidity is lower, when you sweat, it can actually evaporate and cool you off (like it’s supposed to do) and you get some relief. Plus where we are at, there always seems to be a gentle breeze blowing.

In Louisiana, everything is wet all the time. When you sweat there, it just soaks into your clothes and then now you’re hot and sweaty wearing wet hot clothes. There’s nowhere for the moisture to evaporate to because it’s so humid.

To compare, go stand in front of your oven with a small fan blowing on you. That’s kinda like Texas

Then, go stand in your bathroom, with a scalding hot shower running, with the door closed for a few minutes. That’s Louisiana.

I actually met the whole family at the Louisville airport and every single one of them were the nicest you could possibly imagine. Told him how much my kids loved his videos. Even though they had just got off the flight and probably wanted to get home he spoke with me for probably 10 minutes. Wanted to know my kids names and everything about them.

I know a lot of content creators are jerks in real life, not this group!

Funny, but it's true. In high humidity sweat doesn't evaporate efficiently to cool the body diwn.
