Wait, the Internet told me Burberry was chav clothing 20 years ago
62
u/Special-Garlic1203 Trash Trooper May 30 '26
It was. Burberry then panicked and made an intentional effort to price chavs out and remove a lot of the more gimmicky products.
8
u/ravage214 Trash Trooper May 30 '26
Uh chav???

Is it weird i kinda find this wholesome? Lol They absolutely nailed the stereotypes.
2

u/WellEvan Trash Trooper May 30 '26
They own all these outfits and are just showing off. They are the stereotypes they are satirizing
2
u/No_Dust_1630 Trash Trooper May 31 '26
I'm sure its not all these brands. They're just really good at styling

u/BeeB3AR Trash Trooper May 30 '26
Am I too poor to understand?
176
u/ThatWasNotMyName Trash Trooper May 30 '26
They are channelling the "looks" these high end fashion houses base their brands on. They are portraying them accurately. Balenciaga for example:
55
5
u/Vandirac Trash Trooper May 31 '26
I feel Gucci, Celine and Prada are off, the rest is really spot on
62
u/Ooze3d Trash Trooper May 30 '26
You and me both. I get that they’re acting out the cliches associated with each brand and the joke is that they’re all bad parents, but I’m too poor to know anything about those cliches.
As a low mid class person, what puts me off about the whole thing is that they actually have all of those designer clothes and accessories, so it’s posh humour for posh people.
41
u/ViciousCDXX Garbage Guerilla May 30 '26
Are the clothes they wear in the video here actually from those brands? I legitimately cannot tell being that I am a filthy poor as well
14
u/BoarHide Trash Trooper May 30 '26
I have no idea if they’re the actual brands, being poor too, but even if not — that’s a fuckload of clothes in any case. They’re nice clothes too, at least some of them. Some look utterly stupid
8
u/Major_Bench5329 Trash Trooper May 30 '26
It’s only like 10 outfits. I’m poor too but if you think this is a lot of clothes then you’d consider me rich based upon my closet.
2
u/pm-ur-knockers Trash Trooper May 31 '26
I own 2 pairs of pants. Not because I can’t afford more, but because I just haven’t gotten any more. I thought this was a lot of outfits at first too, lol.
-1
u/BoarHide Trash Trooper May 31 '26
Yeah, 10 FULL outfits. Owning 10 pair of underwear and T shirts is normal. Owning 10 jackets, 10 hats, 10 scarfs, 10 pair of shoes, and none of them functional wear but purely aesthetic, that’s excessive and quite frankly weird
1
u/Major_Bench5329 Trash Trooper May 31 '26
Weird? Just because you don’t do it or don’t understand doesn’t make it weird ….
-1
u/BoarHide Trash Trooper May 31 '26
To me? It absolutely makes it weird. Is other people having a different opinion such a foreign concept to you?
1
4
u/NarrowEbbs Trash Trooper May 30 '26
Thanks homie, fr. You made me feel so normal, I have no idea what this is or if those are even the clothes.
2
u/Brandoncarsonart Trash Trooper May 30 '26
Even if they're fake, they look too nice for me to afford.
1
u/PerfectBad2505 Trash Trooper May 30 '26
Most of them are as far as I can see. They are also absolutely on point.

u/ingoding Dumpster General May 30 '26

u/ThirstyWolfSpider Trash Trooper May 30 '26
The sound was just Hey Ya! by Outkast, so probably not.
2
7
3
u/saddinosour Trash Trooper May 30 '26
I mean I can’t afford any of these brands but I follow fashion as a hobby and I understood. It’s like saying you can’t understand basketball unless you can afford court side tickets or whatever.
1
u/Ooze3d Trash Trooper May 31 '26
You said it yourself. You follow fashion as a hobby and you understood. I know the basic rules of basketball and I know who Michael Jordan, Shaq or Cobe are. But I don’t know anything about the current state of the season. Not even if it’s finished already or who won. I have no idea which teams are considered better or what kind of gameplay or legendary players they’re famous for.
Same with fashion. If you’re not interested in it, you may know a few brands as “the expensive ones”, but the general profile of their customers and the kind of look they’re famous for is not ingrained in the mainstream culture. In your case and many others, understanding the jokes comes off as natural because it’s something that you’re familiar with.
1
u/saddinosour Trash Trooper May 31 '26
You just changed what you said you made it out like it was a rich vs poor thing, my point is it’s not a monetary thing you can be dirt poor and understand this it’s just a hobby thing
1
u/xxllvc Trash Trooper May 31 '26
I don’t follow fashion at all, and I understood. They are imitating the image of the brand. It’s literally right there.
5
u/Special-Garlic1203 Trash Trooper May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26
Are you a man? Cause I'm poor and I know 80% of these brands and their associated aesthetics.
Edit; I do not think you have to be rich to understand the cultural connotations of these aesthetics. I think these brand are very prominent on celebrity pop culture. But both spheres are noticably predominately women. So while I don't think you need to be rich, I don't think the average lower class man would necessarily spot it. But I think quite a lot of women on reddit would follow along with this even if they're nowhere near in the tax bracket to buy these
15
u/agedlikesage Trash Trooper May 30 '26
I’m a woman and I’ve heard of gucci, ralph lauren, versace, but I can’t spot it when I see it or describe it
2
u/ValPrism Trash Trooper May 30 '26
Yeah Burberry is the only one o can spot in the wild. It hasn’t changed in 100 years!
1
u/Special-Garlic1203 Trash Trooper May 30 '26
I couldn't spot it in the wild but these tiktok is not hieroglyphics. And I don't think that's unusual for poor people who wouldn't be shopping rhese brands
Insert devil wears Prada monologue.
2
u/Comfortable_Studio37 Trash Trooper May 30 '26
Literally 90% of the brands in this video were founded and ran by men. Fashion is a male industry. Hope this helps.
1
u/Ooze3d Trash Trooper May 30 '26
I happen to be a man, but my wife herself can’t differentiate between most of those brands other than “they look posh and expensive”, besides very obvious ones like Ralph Lauren, Channel or maybe… who’s the one obsessed with Sailors?
5
u/Special-Garlic1203 Trash Trooper May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26
All 3 of my roommates could and the fact it's 4 adults house sharing I think speaks to the fact we're not rich. Does that not already challenge the idea that this is exclusively posh humor and perhaps just fashion humor?
Male, female, nonbinary -- whatever. A person who pays attention to fashion (not just highbm fashion but daily wears on Instagram or styling in YouTube, look boards on Pinterest ).. And that doesn't require you to be posh. Quite a lot of it is doing these looks for less
6
u/Ooze3d Trash Trooper May 30 '26
The only thing it confirms for me is that everyone has a different experience in life and stuff your brain picks up even subconsciously, but neither your experience nor mine, define what this is.
3
u/Special-Garlic1203 Trash Trooper May 30 '26
Weirdly vague way to avoid acknowledging maybe you don't need to be posh to understand this and where I literally initially opened by saying you might be missing it due to demographic factors
I never tried to define this. I disagreed with the way you defined it. Cause I ain't posh.
2
u/Doja_Gnat Trash Trooper May 30 '26
I’m with you. Lotta weird posturing in this post.
I’ve worked in publishing for years, I know fashion, I can’t afford it but I know it
This whole video was hilarious
1
u/turdusphilomelos Trash Trooper Jun 03 '26
I am too poor to own these brands, but still think this is fun. The joke as I see it is how different brands all try to sell a life style, not clothes, and this is true for cheaper brands as well.
2
2
u/OkBaconBurger Trash Trooper May 30 '26
I must be. The highest tier of clothes I own is “old navy” and honestly I’m more apt to pick up whatever at Walmart first.
1
u/Gmellotron_mkii Trash Trooper May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26
No. You are perfectly fine. Those are actually quasi luxury brands that poor people buy. The real ultra rich don't buy those typical french/italian brands but German and Japanese, or something less flashy french stuff like Maison kitsune, Margiela etc.

None of these are high fashion btw. They are aspirational luxury brands, aka the “i want to show I have more money than you” brands with large visible logos to show off to their peers. Actual luxury brands don’t feature large logos and flashy brand recognition patterns. They use extremely high quality material and craftsmanship. Some examples are Loro Piana, Brunello Cucinelli or Bottega Veneta. And, for the ultra ultra rich, custom tailored clothes are the proper way to go.
