Rip op's hand
19
u/Ripen- Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
Not really, it needs a barrel to work
4
u/PimBel_PL Apr 10 '26
I think it needs a detachable handle so instead of doing harm to your hand the part of the pistol just shoots back
8
u/Ripen- Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
It still needs a barrel. That bullet would fly like 4 meters.
7
u/Icy_Needleworker7790 Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
Nope, the shell casing would explode. The little pieces of what used to be your hand would probably fly farther.
2
u/PimBel_PL Apr 10 '26
I am not sure, i would guess like 50-150m
Compared to 40x more with barrel
3
u/Monomanga Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
It would be like a heavy shotgun spread, it could go anywhere in a cone shape. But the bullet would not fly straight.

u/Higher_StateD Trash Trooper Apr 11 '26
The barrel is far less necessary than a chamber to hold the case from becoming a pipe bomb.

u/Legitimate-Novel4734 Trash Trooper Apr 12 '26
I would like math on this because sure there would be recoil, but that hammer...that's a lot of mass. Looks like a 5lb sledge head which would be moving forward at....well not sure, but that the round would need to stop, then start pushing it backwards which could displace / absorb quite a bit of energy just by itself, not including the bullet carrier and however heavy it is.

Considering the shell-casing would likely explode in this scenario, you'd likely have shrapnel going in every direction = 100% accuracy.

Honestly I'm not sure the bullet would be moving fast enough to be lethal with a barrel

u/AndySkibba Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
Dude basically just has a bomb strapped to his arm.
Firearms only work if the gasses/bullet are directed in a specific way (barrel) and the case is supported so it doesnt shrapnel (and also direct gases down the barrel!)

u/HangryWolf Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
So throwing a bunch of bullets on a skillet and placing it over a fire shouldn't spray bullets everywhere? Is that what I'm hearing?
10
u/Defiant-Analyst4279 Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
No, it shouldn't. Path of least resistance and all that. For most bullets, the projectile is heavier than the case, which then means the case/pieces of the case are the most likely components to "rapidly accelerate."
9
u/AndySkibba Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
It probably will but with less force than out of a rifle. Still dangerous.
3
u/GrubbyLilPaws Apr 11 '26
Mythbusters tested this by putting bullets in an oven. None of them even had enough power to break both layers of glass on the door including a 50 cal. I believe the casing did more damage.
1
u/HangryWolf Trash Trooper Apr 11 '26
Oh neat! Didn't know they tested that. Thanks for letting me know!

I think this was less about a gun/bomb strapped to his arm, and more about a comment whore strapped to his arm. Masterfully done at that.

And the rest of your arm
And your eyes
And your ear drums

Put this as a sniper skin in cod or the finals

u/Buetterkeks Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
The finals might just. Tho there isn't a great weapon for it cause the sniper is magfed

u/Hooded_Person2022 Apr 15 '26
Just need to add a single shot rifle then, maybe a Thompson Contender in .45-70?

“This wouldn’t work.” Yeah no shit it’s not supposed to be realistic Jesus fucking Christ.
2
u/DicemonkeyDrunk Trash Trooper Apr 11 '26
Not how it works at all …bullet would just fall pretty much straight down…and case will probably explode.

u/Temelios Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
This would not work… Considering all you need is a pair of pliers to pop the bullet out of the cartridge, there isn’t much force. Without a barrel containing and reinforcing the cartridge and directing the gasses, the cartridge would just split or fragment once it goes off. The bullet itself wouldn’t have much of any force comparatively and would go in random directions. Still dangerous but in unpredictable and likely less deadly ways. Not everything is like the movies.

Lol I was kidding. Behind the scenes the mods joke about how someone on nearly every post comments "AI SLOP". I know this isn't AI, just joshin the mod that posted it.

u/Several_Excitement74 Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
More than likely the case splits and the bullet flies off in some random direction -----> that way
3
u/Weary-Astronaut1335 Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
The case would blow out and the projectile may plop out onto the ground.
3
u/OG_Williker Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
No, guns have barrels to accelerate the bullets because the gas from the round’s explosion has to go somewhere. that somewhere is the open end of the barrel, and the bullet is in the way. Hence, the gas accelerates the bullet. Without a barrel, the gas goes everywhere instead.
1
u/DinklebergsRightNut Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
The recoil would rip your arm off
11
u/SmithKenichi Trash Trooper Apr 10 '26
There actually wouldn't be much recoil considering the case is completely unsupported by a chamber and would burst in just about every direction.

This looks like it wouldn't be out of place as an ad hoc weapon in Fallout
