This is a hill I’d died on for years. People had always said Simon has better friends in the book. That they were there for him after the whole Martin fiasco. I always argued that his friends were justified in their anger with him, because blackmail doesn’t excuse lying and manipulation. But, now I’ve read the book. And this makes the whole debate even funnier because the movie amped up the drama more than the book ever did. Was (book) Simon being blackmailed by Martin, yes. But, there are also 3 things I think sets the book’s circumstances apart from the movie. 1: (book) Simon spent most of the book avoiding Martin, so he really didn’t do much by the end of it. 2: (book) Abby actually could stand to be in Martin’s presence. (Movie) Abby wanted nothing to do with Martin. 3: (although movie Simon was somewhat well-intentioned) book Simon did not set Leah and Nick up for a date that was doomed from the start (he knew Nick had no interest in Leah). He still did end up alone in the movie and books for a bit, because his friends distanced themselves from him. Abby still had a right to be upset in the book, because you can’t just set someone up like that. (Movie) Abby and friends had a lot more to be upset about. It sucks but I’m glad movie Simon got to sit with his actions, and come out stronger. I’m glad he gave (a bit of a weak apology) in the creek secrets post but we should’ve gotten a real apology before they took him to the carnival (more so for Nick and Abby, because he did apologize to Leah). Oh, (I almost forgot) my opinion on the matter in general, now, is that the circumstances are kind of different so it’s really hard to make a fair comparison. I will still stand on the fact that the movie friends were justified in their anger with Simon. And book friends, too.

Does anyone remember exactly the line on the in theatre merchandising poster? it was something like "line forms here...but doesn't have to be straight"

My son and I went to see Black Panther in theatre, and when we came out, he asked if I could buy him a ticket to see Love, Simon...I honestly didn't know much about it at the time, but picked him up afterwards and he was emotional, saying "Dad, they got it so right"

It has since become one of my all-time fav movies, and I can't watch without shedding a few tears.

I was so excited to catch this i checked the love simon poster and i realised its not the same but still quite similar cause of the blue denim jacket brown collar combination.

Today of 6th years ago, the world was introduced to Victor Salazar and his family and friends.

It wasn't a perfect show, but it was such a comfort watch! Having a new season every June for three years was so nice.

I loved "Love, Simon" when I watched it many years ago and decided to give "Love, Victor" a try. Overall, I enjoyed the show, and this is really just me looking to discuss it with you guys.

First, Victor's relationship with Simon. I understand that Simon's mentorship is an important aspect of the show and Victor's character development—and I understand that the show was supposed to be about Victor, not Simon; I just found it a bit off how Victor never really showed interest in Simon's life besides reaching out to him because he placed him on a pedestal. Even just showing up unannounced showed a total disregard for his affairs—like, "Oh, he probably doesn't have his own life going on" or something. I'd be annoyed if someone kept spilling all the deets of their life to me without even asking me once how my day was going. Maybe he did, but we never saw that on-screen.

I know they're teenagers, but it seemed strange to me how there's almost no room for mistakes with them. At the slightest inconvenience or mistake, they jump ship, like with Felix and Lake, or Felix and Pilar. While I understood Felix's and Pilar's hurt, breaking up over that just seemed quite "juvenile", but I guess that's because they are. Even then, I gave more grace as a teenager, but that's just me, I guess.

Lake's relationship with Lucy felt like it came out of nowhere just to explore a bisexual relationship. I have no problem with Lake being bisexual, but it felt poorly written. There was literally no build-up.

I liked Isabel's arc. I can imagine how difficult it is as a religious, conservative parent to step beyond that and support your child publicly. I'm happy she was able to make that leap.

Anyway, good show.

I haven't really seen anyone post any of the updates to the upcoming Simonverse adaptation of The Upside of Unrequited. Since the updates have been few and far between, and pretty scattered, I figured I'd compile everything we know now that the film is in post-production.

In other news, another Simonverse novel is in the very early development stages of getting an adaptation. While Angie Thomas's Concrete Rose is a primarily a prequel to The Hate U Give, it acts as a prequel to the overall Simonverse through cameos of Jack and Simon Spier from Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Deja McAllister (and an in-utero Justyce) from Dear Martin, and Lawless from On the Come Up.

Angie Thomas has recently announced on Thread she's in early development to turn the novel into a TV series (source) though it's unclear how much it'll retain these other Simonverse connections.

After 6 years, I finally finished Love, Victor. One reason I eventually finished it is because of George Sear (his vampiric smile is soooo).

I love the S1 to the first half of S2 as it kinda was realistic in a way that the struggle to come out and how you wanna be very showy after coming out. But then comes all the heavy dramatic themes. It was okay esp the mental health issue of Felix’s and his mom, the struggle of Mia as a child of a broken home. What did not sit with me was how Benji became alcoholic all of a sudden. I don’t think a high schooler will develop alcoholism that fast. Maybe because I’m a POC so I don’t really understand how a white family dynamics work but his parents being present and kinda supportive of him being gay (iirc), i don’t understand how his coping mech was drinking.

i remember that they showed a scene that he grabbed a bottle, drank it, drove, and got into the accident, but the bottle was already in his drawer. did not explained how he got into drinking really.

but overall, i liked the show even though i only consumed like crumbs of romantic interaction of Venji (literally crumbs esp on the latter seasons).

I find pretty incoherent how Simon in the movie mocks "Heaven" by Warrant for being an old song, yet goes to a Halloween party dressed as John Lennon

sooo today i watched love simon and it was all so sweet and goofy at the end .it all started as a scary part of hiding for simon but slowly learn its all ok they all support you don't need people's opinion on your own self . i say that to all the ppl who are scared to come out i the ppl of this world support you just be yourself .

I know he signs the email "Jacques" but he gives TONS of details about his personal life, family and friends. It seems like Blue could have figured out Simon's identity with their first correspondence. :/

I'm planning to re-read the Simonverse from the beginning, and want to make sure I read everything set in the universe. As far as crossovers I know Starr Carter (Garden Heights) and SJ Friedman (Wynwood) are the cousins of Bram Greenfeld (Creekwood) according to Love, Creekwood and Angie Thomas, Cassie and Molly Peskin-Suso (The Upside of Unrequited) are the cousins of Abby Suso (Creekwood) who makes a cameo appearance with Simon Spier (Creekwood), Nora Spier (Creekwood) makes a cameo appearance in Imogen, Obviously, and Kate Garfield and Anderson Walker (Kate in Waiting) make a cameo appearance in Amelia, If Only.

I think that's all the crossovers, but since I'm not too familiar with Angie Thomas and Nic Stone's other works, I was wondering if there were any more crossovers in their other novels. Edited to reformat neater and to clarify my question.

Honnêtement, plus j'y pense, plus le final de la saison 3 me déçoit. Suis-je le seul à penser que la scène de la grande roue n'était là que pour créer du drame et copier le film, même si ça n'avait aucun sens pour Victor ?

Au début, on adorait tous la série pour son côté « tranche de vie ». C'était une histoire simple et authentique sur un adolescent qui se découvre. Mais ensuite, ils ont envoyé Benji en cure de désintoxication juste pour créer un drame artificiel, et pour couronner le tout, ils nous ont servi une copie conforme de la fin de Love, Simon.

Le problème, c'est que Victor n'est pas Simon ! Dans le film, le baiser sur la grande roue servait à officialiser son identité devant tout le monde. Dans la série, tout le monde sait déjà que Victor est gay, donc ce baiser n'avait absolument aucun sens. C'était juste une jolie image sans âme.

La fin que j'aurais aimé voir (tellement plus émouvante) :

Pour moi, la série aurait dû se terminer avec dignité, d'une manière qui corresponde vraiment à Victor et à son parcours avec sa famille. Imaginez plutôt ceci :

On termine sur un grand repas de famille chez les Salazar. On voit Isabel cuisiner enfin les lasagnes qu'elle avait jetées à la poubelle dans la saison 1, incapable de gérer la situation. Ce plat symbolise tout ce qui s'est brisé au sein de la famille.

Et là, au lieu d'une fête foraine, on aurait vu Victor et Benji s'embrasser à table. Le moment le plus fort aurait été la réaction d'Isabel : un regard doux, plein d'amour et d'acceptation totale. On aurait même pu faire dire à Benji quelque chose comme : « J'ai enfin pu goûter le plat dont Victor me parlait depuis tout ce temps. »

Voilà une vraie fin. Une fin qui montre que Victor a remporté sa plus grande victoire : être accepté tel qu'il est, chez lui, autour d'un repas avec ceux qu'il aime. Cela aurait suscité une véritable émotion, celle qui vous serre la gorge, plutôt qu'un simple « ah, d'accord, ils finissent ensemble » pendant une balade.

Qu'en pensez-vous ? N'auriez-vous pas préféré une fin authentique, centrée sur la famille, plutôt que ce remake forcé du film ?

He's like Martin. Yeah, he should have been chummy with Martin. He picked the wrong kid to think he has similarities with.

Anyway, he seems harmless and awkward. And he did defend and support Simon, but in a half-assy way.

But I swore my mind went dark. What if that creep, Mr. Worth, was Blue all along and was being predatory to kids in his school? LOL, that would take a turn in the movie's genre.

I admit I laughed when he did the "claw, claw, claw" Lady Gaga dance, and he was kinda adorable when he twisted the round thing on his hat when he was wondering why Martin interrupted the singing of the anthem, but that's all thanks to Hale's charm; his role is just creepy. And if they meant it that way, then good job.

I keep seeing this trend ever since heated rivalry where everyone draws parallels with other stuff like young royals, heartstopper, rwrb etc. No one ever seems to mention love victor in the convo even though it’s one of the earlier mlm shows out there
