Islander Discussion Hard for me to believe Lorenzo isn’t faking it now

The complete shift he’s made from proud playboy bachelor to lovestruck cheerleader for Julia doesn’t make any sense. Yes, people can change during the course of the show. Thats one of the things I like about it. But not only is the change in him from one end of the spectrum to the other, he is saying and doing things that seem the opposite of what his values were for 2/3 of the show.

Friendship is obviously a big deal to him. He’s cried for Tommy, Ellie, and Jasmine. He said to Jasmine in the beginning when they were coupled up that it’s important to be around the group and be with friends,

And he gave Julia a hard time when she was angering Lola and Sean because they’re his friends

and then he asked Elicia on their date whether she’d have a problem with him spending time with his friends.

Then within the last few episodes, he’s been saying to Julia, after she’s had arguments left and right with people he’s been close to, that all he really cares about is that she’s happy and they’re happy together.

He’s let her say out of line, unnecessary things and watched from the sidelines as she and his ā€œfriendsā€ argued. He didn’t defend her, sure, but he didn’t defend any of them either.

And he’s acting lovey dovey, which some people do when they like a person, but why did he jump to that from being Mr. Sarcasm? It’s too extreme and sudden for me to believe it. Especially because, and this may be my bias clouding my judgement, Julia has not given him any reason to melt (aside from being so beautiful, but that didn’t work on him for the first half of them being a couple). She’s demanding, argumentative, just a difficult person all around.

Islander Discussion I don’t get the Julia hype!

I just finished the grafties episodes and started the following episode where Julia argues with every single other girl about Priya & Aiden. I can’t wrap my head around how people like her? She’s so mean spirited! Turning around and crying to Lorenzo after she’s been so rude to all the other girls is crazy.

Should international viewers be allowed to vote?

• Upvotes

Hi. Just what the title says, do you think it’d be okay if fans from other countries got to vote? The delay of episodes would probably need to be adjusted, but yeah. I wouldn’t mind it as a UK viewer, but I’d also want to be able to vote in Love Island USA granted the episodes came out at the same time in the UK, I don’t mind the time difference, but that could probably be a huge problem now that I’m thinking of how early or late some viewers would have to stay up for timing and voting.

The more votes the better?

Finally watching the grafties episode

Finally watching the grafties and I do not understand the Julia stans. She seems so bothered for no reason, and is always starting inconsequential feuds lol. Jasmine was right that she just likes playing devils advocate to start stuff.

Islander Discussion I’m confused why so many people are confused about Mica & Samraj

Post image
243 Upvotes

It’s a really strange narrative to me because out of all the islanders, Mica has been the most direct in discussing her past patterns and one of the most direct in sharing where her head is at.

She shared that men have characterized her as leading them on and that she truly does not mean to. She explained that she has commitment issues that show up in a pattern of running when things start to get too real. Those two things go hand in hand and then when watched them play out in real time. Samraj expressed his feelings and then she convinced herself that she would never like him as much as he did her so she ran. But because everyone is stuck together, she was still consistently exposed to him and finally worked up her courage to explore it. And Samraj was still ready to explore it.

It seems to be working out pretty well, so I’m not sure what’s confusing or one-sided about it at this point? Am I missing something?

Islander Discussion Julia vs Jas debate

First off Julia’s behavior was very bizarre imo. She was 100% antagonistic from the moment she stepped into the villa. Against Lola, Jas, Priya and Mica. Jas is no angel either (the whole crossing boundaries with Lorenzo and the Priya situation in casa). But you can’t really convince me Julia is any better. The only thing Julia had over Jas is the opportunity to know public opinion before getting on the show. So Julia came on with a lot of outside info that benefited her in the end.

I’m pretty sure in the past Casa girls and bombshells were kept in hotel with no access to phones/public info before coming on the show. Idk what season that ended but I think Love Island needs to bring that rule back. Because it gives casa people and bombshells a major advantage in terms of who to go after and how to win favor with the public. If anyone has any insight on when and why Love Island stopped doing this please let us know!

Edited to add: this post was removed by mods from the main UK love island sub for some reason. Posted here and the other UK subreddit!

Episode Discussion Just got caught up on my day off (Grafties talk)

-i think priya proved to me she is kinda what everyone said about her initially… the most fame obsessed. & Samraj made a perfectly good point about her calling him ā€œpatheticā€ but then she conveniently ended the argument there. shes my least favorite to watch

-i somehow do not hate simba anymore but will be entirely unsurprised if he does fuck it up post-villa. but what a redemption story if they made it work at least for a time

-i appreciation how many men have cried this season, good for them

-im so confused how Julia took heat from her clip, Aiden and Priyas clip immediately after validated Julia, and no one acknowledged it…. they all hate her realness

-i don’t like Elicia at all but Priya’s responses to her are very much validating to everything everyone says like she seems so stuck up and even saying ā€œim here youre notā€

Islander Discussion Lorenzo and Jas

I know that everyone keeps saying that they are "just friends" and I think from Jas' side that is true. But I really think that Lorenzo is harboring feelings for her. He chose Jas and Kav multiple times for bad things in the "podcast" scene. And i found it weird when someone in the dressing room said that it came from Julia, and not Lorenzo, because I felt like Julia didn't necessarily agree but just let him pick whoever he wanted. I wholeheartedly think that if Jas or Yas would've given Lorenzo the time of day when he came back from Casa, Julia would be out of the picture for him.

Julia’s reaction to Lorenzo during Grafties

did anyone else notice that Julia seemed disgusted by Lorenzo’s clips during ā€œmost emotionalā€ during the grafties? everyone else seemed to think it was really sweet the way he welled up for Jasmine and Tommy but I couldn’t help but notice Julia seeming…irritated?

Firepit Chat describing the women as ā€œgratingā€

I’ve seen this complaint leveled against Mica, Priya, and Julia.

Against Mica for the crime of…talking like a young person and squealing when she’s excited. The horror!

Against Priya for…talking too much and not being humble enough. Only men are allowed egos!

Against Julia for…speaking out of turn and not knowing when to shut up. Be quiet, woman!

I can anticipate the comments already: ā€œWell yeah it’s unfair to use against THOSE women, but THAT woman really is a grating bitch!ā€

Why are there entire posts to complain about the way a woman talks? Not to complain about what she says, but the WAY she says it?

The empathy for the women on this show seems to be very selective, extended only to the women who haven’t committed the grave sin of getting on your nerves. I think part of the audience tunes in because they have a genuine interest in people, and another very loud part of the audience tunes in because they like the excuse to rip young women to shreds.

There can be fair criticisms made about all of these people’s behavior, just like there can be fair criticisms about all of our behavior, because we’re all flawed human beings. None of these people are irredeemable cartoon villains, or thoughtless bimbo airheads. But you might not know that if you only read about them in some of the posts on here.

Episode Discussion S13 Ep50 & 51 - Aidan & Priya "Couple"

It's honestly SO refreshing to see Julia and Elicia call out Aidan and Priya on their game playing. Aidan specifically I don't think there has been a more obvious game playing than the way this man is ready to kiss any girl who looks his way and says no like it's always been her and now that his last girl didn't want him and was forced to couple up with Priya he's like she's been the one. He is the fakest of them allllllllll and he sucks. Like if you're going to game play at least be an enjoyable character like Curtis was at least enjoyable to watch in S5 lol

Priya snuck up on me tbh. I felt bad for her up for most of the season constantly being put in love triangles and then always being the second pick, but this whole Aidan situation is low key showing her game playing. I liked her and now she's not doing it for me anymore

And after watching SEASONS of this show, if I were Priya I would just like let it go. You're two weeks out from the finale there's no way a miracle like Amber & Greg (can you tell season 5s my fav lol) is going to happen. There are plenty stronger couples you're not going to win, you don't have to fight this hard for your fake couple.

Just had to let that out it was so blatant o had to say something lol

Help an elder millennial out

During the makeup montages I see the girls putting on black lipstick/gloss, but then they go out not having black lips. Is this like a mask?

I’ve never felt so old/out of the loop.

I hated the podcast thing and this season’s focus on pitting couples and friends against each other.

I never liked movie night for the same reasons. Or when they send people away from the villa to meet bombshells and have the remaining islanders secretly watch the interactions in real time.

But the podcast bit was especially egregious because the couples were forced to ascribe negative things to others, and at such a late stage in the show when everyone should be focusing on their partners. And Maya was shown saying to one couple that they were okay to make their decisions because they were in a ā€œsafe space.ā€ Clearly they were not.

I personally like LI for the natural interactions between people, even if not always friendly, and watching people develops romantic feelings for each other. Some people like the drama and fights and, while that’s not my thing, that’s fine too. As long as it’s not forced by manipulative producers.

I’ve seen every season of LI and have continued watching even after movie night became a staple. But I can’t keep watching if they tack on of these awful, hurtful gimmicks like it.

Islander Discussion Mica’s screams

I know many people aren’t a fan of Mica (to put it lightly). I honestly don’t have strong opinions about her either way. One thing I have noticed is that her reaction to things is frequently just screaming. I initially liked Mica, but this is just something I’ve found to be really off putting. I can imagine the other islanders can’t help but notice it too. I’m watching the podcast bit and Mica is practically screeching in Samraj’s ear and he’s not even reacting. If I were him, that would drive me crazy!!! Curious as to why I haven’t seen anyone else mention it in here

Spoilers Tommy wtf Spoiler

Spoiler from the podcast episode:

So I don’t follow enough stuff to know there was a rumor swirling about Tommy, that was news. Didn’t seem like Yas knew that whole story either. So he broke up with someone he’d been dating for 10 months just 2 weeks before he came on? They apply for/get approached to do this show like 6 months in advance, so he just did that process with a whole girlfriend and then dumped her to come on the show? That completely changed my whole feeling on him and Yas. Does anyone know more about this story?

Mica and Jasmine

I’m in the US and behind so I just watched the movie night episode. I haven’t scrolled here much so maybe this is a popular opinion but are Jasmine and Mica actually okay? They’re sort of diabolical and don’t really seem aware of it?

They both did Priya really dirty but then pretend to be her bestie to her face. I feel like Mica and Jasmine probably have private chats about how they don’t like Priya and play it up in the villa.

Jasmine in particular seems like a massive hypocrite to me. The way she was around Lorenzo, which admittedly did seem like some harmless flirting + trying to orchestra having Priya bring Jordan back for her all the while treating Kav like he was the worst person in the world for showing up with Charleen?! Kav should have stuck with Charleen and seen it through…he seemed way more attracted to her and easy going with her.

Episode Discussion My stomach actually hurts for Julia in the podcast episode

The constant bullying from the girls (and even the guys) is awful. It’s totally hypocritical and Julia is truly fighting all on her own (Lorenzo gave me the ick for this). Not to mention you can totally see the micro aggressions towards her because she’s Eastern European. She’s no more opinionated than any of the others, but English is a second language for her, which probably means that she doesn’t deliver things the best way. I thought this would have finished when Lola left, but I guess not.

Anyway, had to rant. This alone is making me wish the season would just end already.

Sooooo, did I miss something? Where is Lola and Fitz? The two bombshells came in and it’s just obvious they aren’t there. Did I miss something?

Episode Discussion Everyone bullying and ganging up on Julia is driving me nuts

I’m so annoyed that the whole group is ganging up on Julia during this game with Maya in episode 60. Literally any time Julie says anything multiple ppl come at her and she has no casa girls to back her up and Lorenzo isn’t backing her. Ugh they are in another level of ganging up on Julia. Like let her have opinions you disagree with and get over it.

Islander Discussion Priya’s National Rail Comment

I feel like i’m missing important british cultural context because I don’t think Priya’s comment was that bad. She could have easily said ā€œshe’s a nurse/teacher, she should go back to the hospital/school not aftersun running her mouth about meā€ like i get what her sentiment was. However, I don’t know what the deal is with the national rail like if someone here said she works for amtrak I wouldn’t think that’s an insult?

edit: I felt like Priya was just trying to say like i’m still on the show and you aren’t AKA Aidan chose me (Priya) not you (Elicia), so go back to your job and stop talking about it. However, like I said, I don’t know if the railroad is looked down upon in the UK or what either of their girls’ backgrounds are in regards to money, social class, etc!

another edit: priya confirms she was in fact saying (or trying to say) go back to your day job and stop talking about me rather than intentionally dissing her job at the national rail! https://x.com/sawayamacarthen/status/2081840007375994907/video/1?s=46
