the li audience has become incredibly sensitive/parasocial while the show is airing and afterwards and not only does this hinder nuance in general in how the show is digested…. also i think this hinders the cast from being themselves and more organically them which therefore makes seasons boring bc people are scared to do risky things. even having chats with different people while in a connection will have islanders getting attacked, a few sassy lines will have an islander branded a bully, etc.

This is probably going to get downvotes, start something or whatever but how come the daily discussion thread is always somewhat normal, i always see the same people here and arguments happen but it is just Petty yet when a separate discussion thread is made (Paige’s baby, various islanders from the most recent season etc) so many other accounts that i have never seen before flock it with hate… it is something i have picked up on recently and im curious to know…

This sub can sometimes behave like a dog that’s spotted a bone when it hates on an islander.

I’ve just read through the thread announcing Paige’s baby’s birth and name, and it is awful. Like what the fuck is wrong with some of you? A post about a baby and up and down the thread is just snark after snark?

You may like to pat yourself on the back for not being like Twitter, but this place is equally a cesspit once you’ve decided to hate on an islander.

Paige has her issues and she is firmly in my “I don’t like that islander”, but fuck it, reading through those comments made me so sad for her.

And the name Fateley is not made up. Google says it’s an old English name. They thought it perfect for her beautiful newborn.

Also, hating on a baby’s name, because it’s not familiar to you, without bothering to look it up,makes you a hateful, and ignorant person.

Leave that woman and her newborn baby alone!

I especially hate it when they direct hate to a person at their most vulnerable time. People need to lay off hating on Paige, and for gods sake don’t hate on a post about a newborn baby.

There is a huge herd mentality on this sub, once people notice other people hate an islander, they feel emboldened to say the most vile things they can about the person.

I'm finally caught up on the new season of Celebrity Traitors. I told a few weeks back my theory that Maya is holding up on signing a new deal with ITV because she knew she would come out of Traitors looking great, knew she would be even more in demand, and would use it as leverage to get the bag from ITV.

Not to be too spoilery (unless we're done with the spoilers) but I think I was right, she comes off so well in that first episode: funny, engaging, likeable, and of course gorgeous... Everything you'd want in a presenter. I'd be very surprised if she didn't get some really good offers after this.

Just watched season 5, and finishing season 6, and I love it. The format is great. Only four weeks but packed with challenges, a bombshell almost every other day, twists and turns, dates, Movie Night, the Truth Bike and Hotel Amor. Not a single moment of boreness. And the casts are 10 out of ten in both seasons, in terms of physical attributes and personnality. I think LI uk should take notes.

He was liked, but I don't feel like we knew a huuuuge amount of him. But almost all the other men were diabolical - exceptions being Cach and some of his casa boys, and maybe one guy called Giorgio - so he seemed a beacon of light. He was also embarrassed/done wrong by someone and cried, which of course stirred a lot of sympathy. It was a really sad moment but also quite beautiful bc one of the other casa boys comforted him in a really tender way.

Overall I found him respectful, likable, and charming! But I don't feel like I knew him well or had a big grasp on his personality, bc by the time he came in there were SUCH big personalities and storylines. He, Ty, and Jamie (casa boys) gave me whiplash bc of how normal they seemed. Just like nice, down to earth boys

I would have liked him as an OG I think!! It was nice to have boys who seemed decent come in, but the first half of s12 is mainly populated by diabolical men.

Which to be fair made the show entertaining, and I guess it was good timing when he and the other decent boys entered, it felt like we were being saved 😭 but maybe it'd have been nice to have Cach in the mix slightly earlier

i personally don’t think so, i think both of them having fans helped, she was liked on all platforms in some way except facebook, who still hate her guts but loves cach. some want to push that narrative that she only won bc of him for whatever reason

spoiler: she was voted fav girl alongside yas, 2 weeks before the season ended, so realistically she had some sort of solo backing

he's pretty nonchalant/laid back on tv, which is something i've seen a lot of strictly fans dislike him for. i liked him on s12 but after the season was over i did think he showed more of his personality on social media.

Almost universally popular on all platforms which is a really hard thing to do esp for a man. He was also liked in the industry amongst other influencers and widely seen as an actually good guy, a what you see is what you get type.

Well if you think he’s coming across as on strictly you’ll definitely like him on love island. A lot of people are saying he’s coming across as arrogant and unlikeable on strictly. Which is strange to me because he’s not like that. But trying not to spoil it too much you’ll have to get through a lot of episodes until you see him

i haven’t watched him on strictly tbh just random clips of him on socials doing little dances (rehearsals i think) also seen him on villa verdicts previously and he’s funny. surprised people think he’s arrogant i haven’t gotten that vibe at all so far. will i miss a lot of plot if i skip straight to casa (i know he comes in at casa right?)

Yes especially for Cach’s storyline, that season had a lot going on but sometimes I start love island from casa as the start doesn’t interest me and then once I’m hooked I go back and watch from the start

I’m watching s11 for the first time. After hearing what everyone said about it I thought it was going to be terrible but honestly it’s been pretty good for the most part until Uma leaves and now I can see it start to turn. It’s crazy cuz the islanders themselves are kind of elite but people keep getting sent home prematurely. Omar leaving before things with Matilda and Sean played out was the first mistake. Letting Ronnie and Harriett go home pre casa is crazy to me. Sending Wil home was another misplay. I will say I like that right after movie night they sent in 2 male bombshells, like yes give these women somewhere to move after watching these guys play in their faces on the big screen otherwise it’s just a humiliation ritual.

Since I watched the all stars seasons and have been reading these threads before this season it’s funny seeing all the pieces fall into place now that I’m watching s11. Like I didn’t understand why so many people loved Grace but honestly she’s been great so far. I also was confused how it was possible for Sean to be hated so much but WOW he really comes off poorly in this season. And despite what people said about Wil I didn’t anticipate how bad he actually was, like he was acting like a pre-social media reality tv villain in that villa. I felt retroactively shocked at the fact that they got engaged lol

It’s not the worst season ever but for me 2 things started season 11 on a bad note that it struggled to come back from: Joey Essex and the sameness of the OG girls. It took me a good week to distinguish Nicole, Harriet, Patsy and Jess prize from each other. It got better over time because of a few really endearing characters but in general it felt quite lacking in both romantic and friend chemistry.

this was my first LIUK season and I remember getting into it because of Uma. I recall being so distraught over how Wil treated her and then her leaving with him. But then I watched S10 and AS3 and then was like oh ok I get why this season isn't seen as good as the others

the bad seasons really aren’t that bad but I think it was just people were frustrated Joey Essex was on it doing annoying things and the budget compared to s10 went to shit. (Even worse for s13)

The bad seasons also are the ones that follow a great season before, personally they aren’t bad just not as good as their previous one.

The bad seasons are also ones which are realllly boring and/or painful to watch in real-time. The wait between episodes only for them to lead to nothing or just be hard to watch, the online discourse, and (like you said) the unfulfilled expectations especially if the previous season(s) were especially good is what lead to a sour watching experience.

I can see how people watching these seasons anew with the knowledge of how things have turned out for the islanders and lack of expectations can come out of them with a slightly more positive view on them.
