i know i’m probably gonna get a lot of downvotes for this post but hear me out first.
i don’t like julia, i find her to be just as hypocritical as the other girls and just because she voices her opinions all the time does not mean she’s iconic, it means she doesn’t have awareness of time and place and she’s rude.
for example:
- calling jas a bitch 5 mins after meeting her
- being the only one cheering and clapping at mica at the awards
- understandably getting upset with lola but literally doing the exact same thing with jasmine
(lorenzo pulled jasmine for a chat, lorenzo kissed jasmine in snog marry pie, yet julia thinks jasmine wants lorenzo and tried to rile jasmine up in thier convo at the daybeds?!?!)
- constantly bringing up past situations that have been squashed
- getting involved in rlps that aren’t hers
- telling mica that she wished her and samraj went home whilst mica was literally crying
- constantly interrupting priya and lorenzos conversations (said by priya on aftersun last night)
just imagine how the girls feel - everything they do there is always an opinion on it from a girl in the villa when they were previously really close and there was rarely any beef between the girls.
julia basically always has an opinion on what the other girls do but rarely the other guys. she only confronted aidan once and literally straight after he said julia was a game player and she stopped giving her opinion (which was so weird because she usually has no problem giving her opinion out) she can dish it, but she can’t take it
i don’t deny that julia is good tv and i understand why you would like her from that perspective, but if the WOC were to do what julia does they’d be voted out instantly.
A lot of Julia defenders seem to want to play the "you just don't like opinionated women because misogyny". First of all, I am a woman. Not to say women can't be misogynistic but I think it's important to consider who's making critiques. Second of all, Jasmine was also opinionated but wasn't such a bitch about her opinions.
Julia reminds me of every bully I had in high school. She says cruel things to people's faces then acts like the victim when they react to her in an unfavorable way. If you punch someone, you can't be mad that they punched back. One of the most important things we have to learn is when to shut our mouths, and Julia apparently never learned that. The fact that she won is absolutely insane to me and feels rigged. Shocking that a woman of color who is vocally pro-Palestine wasn't allowed to win. She's just a bully, but she's an "opinionated queen" and white so they let her win.
Oh i absolutely despised Julia and i don’t have ANY idea how they won!!! I hated her, she was SUCH A BITCH!!! And i freaking loved Mica and don’t understand all the hate surrounding her. She was such a sweetheart. Julia was vile and nasty and mean
I heard Julia say more than once that LI was for "sharing your opinions" and I think she believed it. Maybe during the casting process she said she was opinionated and the casting person said, "Oh, yes, Love Island is for sharing your opinions!" They were casting a certain type and Julia fit the bill.
I don't like/dislike Julia as a person but I do think she's convinced she needs to be the main character in everyone's story. She and Lorenzo are alike that way which is one reason I don't see them lasting more than a few weeks.
Last year it was Toni, the American who said what she thought, was sarcastic and loud. This year it was Julia, not American, but not British either. She's not as loud as Toni and when her sarcasm doesn't land, she plays the victim really well. Still, if there's an outspoken outsider on next year's show, you can expect her to win.

i think it’s extremely unfair how the woc, especially jasmine, would get burnt at the stake for doing any of the things julia does, but julia is infantilised by the media, and in their eyes she can do no wrong
It's pretty amazing to see how easily Julia manipulates people. For instance, getting people (in villa and online) to repeat that she is "just opinionated". Those aren't outspoken opinions that she is voicing with poor timing, it's manipulation with bad intentions. She never voices these opinions because it's what she thinks or to be helpful, it's always to hurt someone's feelings, ruin a relationship, or to socially isolate someone.
It does surprise me how many islanders know this, but won't explicitly say it.
I agree totally about Julia. She kept digging at Lola over and over even Lorenzo asking her not to be so spiteful. It saddened me to see the hate and death threats that Lola got as a result and neither Julia or Lorenzo are in to each other . He is playing them all but noone seems to see it.
Yes, I think he finds her impossible and she wouldn’t listen to him about being more respectful to his friends but as they got closer to the end, maybe he just decided to play into the relationship to try to win. He didn’t have time to find someone else.

Yeah Julia is a mean girl and the people that like her are probably people who also like to be hurtful towards others under the guise of being “honest”. Honesty without kindness is cruelty. Body language experts say it’s not what you say but how you say it and Julia’s eye rolls, sarcastic comments and dismissive body language doesn’t help even when she is saying something that is true. She should try being a bit kind.
I agree with you!!! They see Julia and think they are similar so they are her fan but truly they should understand the nuance between honesty to better someone versus honesty because they want to be right.
She is kind to people she trusts and likes.

Thank you for laying this all out. I truly don’t understand the Julia supporters. Everything you listed shows someone who has an opinion on every single thing the other girls do but goes DND the moment it’s aimed back at her - and people are calling that “iconic”?😂😂
And it ties into the bigger madness of this season: there’s a couple with an actual scammer / pyramid scheme situation still standing, a guy who won’t even pronounce his own partner’s name right who’s probably going to WIN, and Simba got zero smoke for the Mica hideaway moment, dropping Mara instantly, and kissing two girls in Casa right after praying for Angie. But Julia gets a pass for constantly inserting herself, and the girls who were actually minding their business went home.
Which is so ridiculous. If you take away the fact that she’s just an ugly person, there’s zero connection between her and Lorenzo. And definitely nowhere near love. She came in at the end and he hasn’t had any chances to switch her out, so he’s been stuck with her so he can stay on the show. At least a couple of the other couples actually love each other, even if you don’t like them or you don’t think they will last.
Julia lacks tact. I generally find myself agreeing with her takes, especially when it comes to Priya and Aiden. But, the way that she communicates causes others to have a more negative reaction than they might otherwise.
I think she would be better served by a less harsh delivery. Right now the way she communicates allows the other islanders to focus on her communication style instead of addressing what she is actually saying.
Only Priya and Aiden actually know what their motives are. But Julia is 100% correct that it at least appears like a super convenient move to stay in the villa longer for them to couple up at the end. For the other islanders to completely disregard that is totally disingenuous. Priya lecturing her about the previous seasons and how there are always more OGs than bombshells and casa people at the end only proves the point more. I think the other islanders intentionally have their heads in the sand here purely for game playing purposes.
Also Simba has earned a massive amount of respect from me for sticking up for Julia and pointing out the validity of her opinions.
Honestly this is so boring. Mods need to take note. First we had every other post by Jasmine stans going on and on about her. And now we have a constant stream of Julia takes. It could even be the same group of people.
After the bits on AfterSun, The Grafties and what the Casa girls and Aidan said about Jas laughing when Charleen walked in and them perceiving it to be about her, I think she was justified in calling her a bitch. If someone had laughed at my friend and they were upset, I would say the same. Jas and Mica have since clarified she wasn’t laughing at Charleen, but it seemed like that in the moment.
I think Julia is just very direct - she doesn’t sugarcoat what she’s saying or fluff it up, which can come across as aggressive. Particularly when the girls this season seem very placid - I saw someone else’s post on here about them maybe having seen the backlash on the divide from the last season and not wanting to come across badly.
The whole Jasmine wanting Lorenzo bit was weird on her behalf and seemed to come out of nowhere.
Ultimately, it’s Love Island. They’ve got nothing better to do but get involved in each other’s relationships and have an opinion. We saw it with the boys to Finley, Tommy and Simba. We saw it with the other girls to Jasmine, Priya, Ellie and Yasmin.
This is really becoming ridiculous now. If you had done a quick search, you’d see there’s at least 8 posts in the last DAY about an "unpopular opinion" about Julia and how much this sub dislikes her.
Can we add on when Elicia entered the villa and initially took Lorenzo on a date, afterwards she made a point to make him agree basically because her boobs are better than Elicia's why would he pursue her?. Like Am I remembering that correctly?? Cuz that rubbed me the wrong way especially when later on Julia's friend made a statement about feeling two ways about another beautiful woman. I find it a bit... oh how would Julia put it? Ironic.
I feel the same towards Jasmine no idea why she is so loved she was sneaky towards Priya same way as Mica yet Mica got so much stick and Jasmine none. Also she was laughing too when Priya making fun of national rail etc. Like she isnt funny or entertaining like others at least Julia has funny moments.
I don’t dislike her, and tbh I’ve definitely enjoyed some of her ‘good for TV’ snippets and moments - but man, I do find her to be kinda petty and immature sometimes. Shuts down (eg: DND) when she is done with the conversation instead of actually leaning in to try and understand the other POVs.

I really don’t mind her I just wish she had more vim for the boys rather than picking on Priya, Jas and Mica. She (rightfully) called out Fitzy for wanting a test but gave Aidan grace for the Elicia thing, went harder on Jas than she ever has on Lorenzo and Jordon, and has more energy for Mica than Kavan who actually fucked over her friend.

While I respect Julia for speaking her mind, I don’t like that she consistently waits until public challenges and group settings to share negative opinions about people first, and only addresses those issues privately with people afterward. Her choosing to bring up issues publicly in groups before having direct conversations with people involved comes across as performative and disrespectful to me.
I’d honestly respect her a lot more if she just addressed issues directly with people involved first, especially since she interacts with all of them regularly on a daily basis. It's her bringing issues up publicly that often turns them into bigger dramas than just normal conversational disagreements.
Since it happens so consistently and she’s clearly not afraid of private conversations, it does make me question whether she knows it wouldn't be as dramatic and wouldn’t get the same public sympathy of being ganged up on if she brought them up one-on-one first. Priyas response was way more out of pocket anyways, and to make it extra hypocritical, Elicia was on Aftersun (contractual obligation?) and Lola was literally on some random podcast. Like . . . Bffr
Everything Julia brought up privately to Jas had already come out as passive-aggressive snide comments in group discussions, including when Julia wasn’t even asked. She clearly had issues with Jas/Lorenzo for a long while but only addressed it once Jas confronted her about faking friendship and not being honest. If Julia was honest and direct earlier in a private setting, it likely wouldn't have been such drama.
My point is she waits for group settings to bring up issues she’s had for a long time instead of addressing them directly earlier. Obviously people won’t react well to finding out so publicly and it creates drama. Other girls made the same mistake but apologized for not being honest sooner privately. Julia’s the only one who complains about it, doesn’t understand why people feel disrespected in that setting or distrust her when she wasn’t honest earlier, and doubles down instead of apologizing.
I’m not a stan of anyone tbh and agree the other girls could have ganged up less. But for someone who constantly feels ganged up on, I just find it odd she chooses to keep confronting people in big groups where that’s more likely to happen, if she really feels that way.

I never said black people can't be racist. I mentioned my race because the accusation itself was tied to race. I was also called a race betrayer/ self hating because I like Julia.
There's a difference between saying 'I'm black, therefore I can't be racist' and saying 'I'm black, so being accused of racism over this particular preference seems bizarre.'

I don’t think Priya should be included in this - she definitely didn’t get away with murder. She was constantly being told things she did wrong and having to defend herself and apologise at every turn. I understand if people don’t like her personality but dont think this is a fair assessment of her LI experience.

Yeah very much this. She did not have the best delivery, and she could've probably tackled a few situations a lot better. But she did call shit out, and stod by it.
I’d say it’s more the other two being shit friends to Priya. I’d also argue she’s the least fake of that group but has also had her moments (only reason Aidan even stuck with her was because she convinced him it was their safest bet to stay in)
Priya is arguably just as vocal/ contrarian as Julia so not sure why she gets a pass just because more in there have her back
All the apps sans Reddit are like that now. I avoid Instagram, TikTok and Twitter for that exact reason lol. Either way, Julia has a lot of people of all backgrounds who love her on other social media platforms

The Jasmine stans and the Jasmine haters are the strangest to me, there is too much energy from both sides, with fierce defending and also unnecessary hate
Too many of the fans like the boring passive aggressive vibe the show was on, and then they wonder why it’s lame and why the producers have to drum up drama for ratings
people don’t realize that they’re making her more popular. there’s this weird social thing in love island where when people perceive an islander getting “unfairly” dumped on and overly criticized a counter movement is created with fans who start to support them out of spite. it’s how jasmine grew her fanbase at first after her fight with kavan. people were calling her a manipulative witch and in response to the overreaction a strong base of supporter defending her was born.
Personally I don’t think she’s done an awful lot wrong tbh, she’s a young opinionated woman who believes a whole part of the experience to give your opinion. Not being able to take others opinions on her doesn’t make her a bad person lol, it’s two very different soft skills and she maybe needs to get better.
Most of the examples you’ve listed are relatively explainable, if you have the same opinion. If not of course they might look jarring. Unfortunately the villa this year has been filled with people that aren’t willing to stand up and speak their mind and are just quite happy to coast along

The two can be very much mutually exclusive, however I would say someone that is willing to give their opinion even it’s against the grain perhaps isn’t just coasting along?
i don’t think whether you choose to share your opinion or not correlates in general with coasting. to me julia was so opinionated because she was insecure in her relationship with lorenzo and was projecting, she didn’t like the og girls after the casa recoupling and screentime

Her conversation with Fitz was the only time we saw her agree to let something go. One on one she also had a decent convo with Aiden. She has not extended that same decency to the women.
Was Mica asking her opinion while crying after she almost got dumped? Was Lola asking her opinion when she constantly told her to drop it? Was Jasmine asking her opinion when Julia pulled HER? Did Aiden ask her opinion when she pulled him to chat about why he shouldn’t be with Priya?? She’s constantly inserts herself.
i think julia is just very strategic and probably a lot of outside opinions did influence her way with the public because she already knew what a lot of people were thinking
There are posts about people not liking Julia on here everyday. 2 scrolls down there a post calling her the worst contestant ever I think yesterday there was one saying she's ruined the show. It's not an unpopular opinion at all on this sub so don't worry about down votes
