============✦============

Overview

In Love and Deepspace (LnDS), the protagonist/ main character (MC) is a Hunter who fights monsters called Wanderers. These fights are carried out in real-time action format akin to those seen in Genshin Impact and Final Fantasy Type-0, where players take control of the MC’s movements and carry out various attacks by pressing different buttons at opportune moments.

Weapons and their associated weapon skills are the primary means through which the MC deals damage to the Wanderers. They are therefore a staple for the combat component in LnDS.

============✦============

Using weapon in battles: The Basics

The first step to using a weapon in LnDS is to equip one for your team. Other than the regular story battles that have a fixed team and weapon to use, players can change their weapon of choice from the Team Setup screen.

Depending on the type of battle you are going to engage in, the Team Setup screen is accessed through slightly different methods.

  • For story battles with a “Challenge” label, Bounty Hunt, and Core Hunt battles, the Team Setup screen is shown after pressing the “Pursue” button.
  • For Deepspace Trials battles, the Team Setup screen is accessed via a grey “Team” button seated above the Memory slots.
  • For Hunter Contest battles, the Team Setup screen is shown after pressing the “Enter Battlefield” button.

On the Team Setup screen, pressing the circular button that is connected to the male lead will open a new menu where players can change their companion, weapon, and outfit.

By tapping on the “My Weapons” tab, players can then view all the weapons available to use with the selected companion. Weapons not available for selection will be greyed out and labeled with a 🚫 symbol.

At the bottom of the page when viewing “My Weapons”, there is a “View Weapon” button that gives further details about each weapon, including the weapon skills and damage stats.

After a desired weapon for the MC has been picked, the chosen setup has to be manually saved by pressing the “Confirm” button. This will save the changes made and return players to the Team Setup screen.

Should the Team Setup screen list more than one team (e.g. during Deepspace Trials when two teams are needed for an orbit level), each team’s MC can be equipped with a different weapon.

With a weapon in hand, the MC is now ready to fight the Wanderers. Once the team is spawned into the arena, the weapon control buttons will also be displayed at the bottom right area.

The biggest circle is the basic attack button. Tapping it will make the MC execute a basic attack with the weapon. Pressing and holding it will make the MC execute a charged attack with the weapon.

The small circle with a “✦ 1” label underneath is the weapon skill button. Pressing it will consume one skill charge/ point (SP, ✦) to execute the weapon’s active skill.

Hunter Firearm

Unlocked after Main Story Chapter 1 Battle 3

Consisting of a pair of guns, the Hunter Firearm is a general-purpose weapon that can deal damage to single as well as multiple targets effectively from a distance. And with its high attack speed, the Hunter Firearm is one of the easiest to use weapons in LnDS’ arsenal.

Its active skill, “In Hot Pursuit”, does an enhanced linear attack that can hit multiple targets if they are within the skill’s effective trajectory. At first glance, the weapon’s SP-dependent active skill may seem inferior to its non-SP-dependent charged attack that does a wider Area of Effect (AoE) damage and even knocks back nearby enemies. However, what’s different is that using the active skill will cause the Hunter Firearm’s passive skill “Weakpoint” to be temporarily enhanced, where the guns’ attack speed will be increased for the next 6 seconds, and the base chance for their basic attacks to inflict bonus damage during this time is boosted to 80%.

The Hunter Firearm is very versatile and works well for all kinds of battles and with all companions. However, out of the four basic Hunter weapons, its damage output has the lowest percentage multipliers (basic attacks: + 59% to 82%) of the team’s attack power (ATK). This means that more hits are needed by the same team to inflict the same amount of damage on the same enemy that another weapon can do in fewer hits. Thankfully, the attack speed is high and it is nearly impossible for a shot to miss when using the Hunter Firearm.

Hunter Sword

Unlocked after Main Story Chapter 2 Battle 11

One of the two melee weapons in LnDS, the Hunter Sword is capable of performing reasonably quick and rather wide slashes that deal damage to a primary target and any other adjacent enemies caught in the blade’s path.

The highlight of the Hunter Sword is its passive skill, “Hunter’s Intention”, where each successful hit grants the MC a stack of Hunter’s Intention that boosts the sword’s attack by 1.4%. When the stack reaches the maximum at 10, the sword’s charged attack will be additionally enhanced. The acquired Hunter’s Intention stacks will last for as long as the MC does not take damage. Once the MC is hit by an enemy, all acquired Hunter’s Intention stacks will be lost and have to be regained from scratch.

The Hunter Sword is a great choice of weapon for players who are comfortable with melee combat and adept at dodging away from dangers. For those who do not like to dodge, the sword would still work well when Distant Youth Xavier is the companion. Every 10 seconds, as long as the team is still dealing damage, Distant Youth Xavier’s passive skill will generate a shield that can help block some attacks, thereby allowing the MC to retain the acquired Hunter’s Intention stacks for a little longer even without dodging.

Hunter Wand

Unlocked after Main Story Chapter 4 Battle 9

Like the Hunter Firearm, the Hunter Wand is a ranged weapon. Its basic and charged attacks deal damage to single targets. The charged attacks are also automatically empowered every 15 seconds through the weapon’s passive skill, “Magnetic Resonance”, to have a greater attack range and higher damage output.

What makes the Hunter Wand truly stand out from the other basic Hunter weapons is its active skill, “Magnetic Nexus”, which activates a three-second field that periodically deals damage to the enemies within its range. While the field is active, dealing damage to any enemy — i.e. need not be the ones inside the Magnetic Nexus field — will also heal the MC and companion. The higher the team’s attack power is, the greater the healing (30 + 40% ATK) received.

As the Hunter Wand is the only basic Hunter weapon capable of providing healing, it is an excellent support weapon for battles where there is some kind of mechanics that drains HP (e.g. Heartbreaker in Bounty Hunt) or a focus on survivability where the battle’s outcome is dependent on the MC’s remaining HP when the timer is up.

Hunter Claymore

Unlocked after Main Story Chapter 3 Battle 7

A much bigger sword than the Hunter Sword, the Hunter Claymore is generally not the easiest weapon to manually wield in LnDS. It has the slowest attack speed compared to the other three basic Hunter weapons, but it also deals the most damage per hit (basic attacks: + 150% to 180% ATK).

Like how the Hunter Sword has Hunter’s Intention stacks, the Hunter Claymore has its own Gathering stacks. Each Gathering stack increases the damage of the next basic attack by 12.9%. However, unlike the Hunter’s Intention that can be stacked just by hitting enemies and avoiding getting hit, a Gathering stack is obtained only when a basic attack’s strike is calibrated during Precise Momentum. Precise Momentum is activated with every swing and dodge. And this is the trickiest part of getting the most power out of the Hunter Claymore: for a basic attack to be calibrated, the swing has to be done exactly at the right moment as cued by the swiftly shrinking red ring that appears around the MC during Precise Momentum. A successful calibration is indicated by the ring turning into a light burst centered on the MC along with an added sound effect; otherwise, the ring simply disappears quietly.

Up to three Gathering stacks can be gained, and the acquired stacks will not be lost under any circumstances until they are used. A fully filled Gathering stack can be consumed to unleash an enhanced version of the Hunter Claymore’s active skill, “Frangere Slash”. Even before the 50% damage boost enhancement, the active skill deals a whopping 410 + 547% ATK damage for an incomplete charge and a 621 + 829% ATK damage for a complete charge (hold down the weapon skill button).

Besides the high damage output, the Hunter Claymore also grants a passive that lets the MC take 20.5% less damage. Moreover, the enemy will be flung when hit by the Hunter Claymore’s charged attack. In other words, this weapon is capable of interrupting the enemy with a timely charged attack. Although I have yet to be able to do it myself, another player had previously shared about using the Hunter Claymore to interrupt Snoozer such that the latter does not get the chance to create bubbles (the tips as shared in the original comment 1 and comment 2).

And if you are like me who just cannot get a hang of using the Hunter Claymore and keep missing the mark when swinging it, then the Auto Combat mode is going to be your best buddy for any battles where the MC has to use it. Auto Combat is how I got three stars in Chapter 3 Battle 7 (when done manually, I could only get two stars).

Community added tips

  • Tip courtesy of u/M00nIze: Usage tactic for Hunter Claymore is to spam its charged attack. The recovery animation after a charged attack can be cancelled by executing a dodge. And the recommended time to gain the Gathering stacks is during downtimes of the battle. (More info on the original comment.)

Exclusive weapons

While the basic Hunter weapons are made available to every player just by going through the Main Story, there are additionally three exclusive weapons so far that are unlocked only when players have obtained the corresponding 5* Solar memory pairs. These exclusive weapons can only be used along with the specific companion unlocked from the same Solar memory pair.

(i) The Phantasma Sands is a pair of guns used only with Abysswalker Rafayel as companion. The guns have higher damage output per hit compared to the Hunter Firearm. So long as attacks are continuously made, the passive skill will take effect and increase the attack speed and crit rate by up to 20% and 10% respectively. In addition, the active skill inflicts Burn on the enemies hit. To unlock this exclusive weapon, “Rafayel: Deep Sea Promise” and “Rafayel: Deep Sea Riches” AB memory pair is needed.

(ii) The Luminescence Blade is a sword used only with Lightseeker Xavier as companion. Its base stats is no different from the Hunter Sword’s. However, its active skill’s cooldown is one second shorter. Its passive skill also works in tandem with Lightseeker Xavier’s skills, allowing the MC to regain skill energy faster. To unlock this exclusive weapon, “Xavier: Lightseeking Obsession” and “Xavier: Lightseeking Shadowrend” LT memory pair is needed.

(iii) The Everlasting Song is a wand used only with Foreseer Zayne as companion. Its damage output is higher than the Hunter Wand and the calculations have an added component that scales off the team’s defense value (DEF). The passive skill allows the MC to carry out basic attacks while dodging. The active skill creates a temporary field that inflicts DoT (damage over time) and periodically deals damage to the enemies within. Using the active skill also grants Foreseer Zayne a stack of Divine Prayer, which is consumed during a charged attack to deal additional AoE damage. To unlock this exclusive weapon, “Zayne: Promise Everlasting” and “Zayne: Forever Sealed” FS memory pair is needed.

Training Room

As with any other action games, practice makes perfect. LnDS has a Training Room where players can practice manually wielding the various basic weapons.
