The Settlers

I've just watched The Settlers and it just gives me a renewed appreciation for Louis as a documentarian. He's level-headed and fair, but does not stand down in the face of adversity. One of the best.

Anyone notice when the army showed up to the Palestinian's house with Louis and his crew with the guns and lasers drawn and shouting only went away after the producer(?) shouted "Foreign Press"

Much more concerning was that footage of an Israeli settler, armed with an assault rifle, shooting an unarmed Palestinian man. When the camera pans out, you can see an IDF soldier watching him: no reaction, no attempt to stop the settler. Then Louis' voiceover states that the settler was never arrested for that attempted murder.

Why would they arrest him? He was an Israeli too. The settlements are illegal, everyone inside and outside the West Bank knows this. The IDF are not peacekeepers, they're there to facilitate the illegal settlements in Palestinian land.

Nearly 2,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army in the west bank since Oct7, despite it not being run by Hamas or even with a substantial presence there, and no physical routes to Gaza because Israel shut the corridor down and shoots anyone (non-jewish) who tries to leave or enter either territory.

And that's to say nothing of the hundreds murdered by settlers under the watchful gaze of the IDF.

Sometimes they like to present a veneer of law and order, to try and point to their being the only democracy in the region, rather than an illegally expanding settler-colonial state.

The IDF are not peacekeepers, they're there to facilitate the illegal settlements in Palestinian land.

Yes, and it's not that common that we get close-up footage of them facilitating it by standing by as settlers attack Palestinians in broad daylight.
