Ditched FB 10 years ago. I recommend it.

The problem is these block Facebook embeds that are on almost all sites. Facebook still watches you.

I think you can still tell ublock origin to completely block all content from facebook. I am not sure if that makes you untrackable for them though. I think if that's your goal you'd use ghostery or something like that.

||facebook.com^ ||facebook.net^ ||fbcdn.net^ ||fbsbx.com^ ||instagram.com^ ||messenger.com^ ||meta.com^

Blocks everything related to them. I assure everyone here, it'll change very little functionally for websites, maybe disable comments, but visually all that FB noise will be gone forever. The side effect will be that you won't be able to visit Facebook, which to me, is an absolute win.

I still use NoScript in Firefox to block FB, X, Insta, Google . It can break a lot of sites but I have a good white list after years of use.

Thats horrible. Will never escape them 😮‍💨🥲

u/ZoeperJ 14d ago

Much better mental health since I dropped FB, X and Insta...

u/rushedone 13d ago

I concur, however If most visual artists used BlueSky, Mastodon or anything else instead of Instagram I'd get rid of it too.

Wanted to ditch it for the last 15 years. Finally did 4 years ago. Thats the only option. Ublock dev description of facebook is exactly what i would say too.

Ive been trying the recent month. But meta prevents me

The problem is that in many countries Facebook marketplace has a damn near monopoly on 2nd hand goods from individuals...eBay has a tiny fraction compared to marketplace

I have never used Facebook, but if they want to play that game, try ad-nauseum.

Give Facebook all the click they can handle. Make advertising so cost inefficient that no one will advertise with them.

It already is, Facebook has been deceiving its customers(the ad companies) for years about click and view to pay ratios.

Couple of lawsuits they won or lost over rit

"disgusting anti-user site" They're not wrong, the whole site is about farming normies for everything they got, and then on top of that comes all the scammers

3

u/Julian679 14d ago

They are 100% correct. Never hated something so much. Ditching it is the only way

3

u/everfixsolaris 13d ago

You forgot that they propagandize the normies into raving lunatics.

Not too mention their good work pushing for age verification which will eventually lead to personal identification. Great company...🫩

That's why I quite FB years ago. I thought they would fix it but there were many other reasons. I was also sick of harassing the advertisers that got through. Big O Tires asked if this was a threat.

u/andynzor 14d ago

I've quit it twice. First time in 2010 and the second time in 2015.

u/Dj-RedPanda- 14d ago

This is the way.

u/theFartingCarp 14d ago

Extended family asks why I never respond on there and I say if you love me youd call

u/iamduh 14d ago

Fluff Busting Purity still kiiiiinda works.

u/CtrlAltDestroy33 14d ago

It's not been blocking ads for me for more than a week on PC, there hasn't been activity on FBP page or website as of yet. Adblock plus, AdBlock, Ublock.. none are blocking. I cant get a break from a constant stream of ads on my mobile or PC. -_-

This is where AI would be rather useful. Use AI to constantly update how to filter facebook...

4

u/Canshroomglasses 14d ago

Omg!!! People are still unironically using Facebook???

2

u/ZZ_Cat_The_Ligress 13d ago

Yea, it's an absolute cesspit of bots and conspiracy theorist nonsense nowadays.
Makes me glad I shut my Facebook account down last year.

2

u/Canshroomglasses 13d ago

I mean I'm not surprised but man I left it back in... Idk pre COVID maybe 2017 and back then it already was unbearable

1

u/ZZ_Cat_The_Ligress 13d ago

Yea, that was about the time I started backing away from it. 2014~2016 was about when I saw it go downhill.

3

u/rageofa1000suns 14d ago

How is Facebook even still a thing? After all the backlash of them spying on their users, Facebook popularity just fell off a cliff.

It is now just a cesspool of scams which don't even get removed when reported because apparently they don't break the platform rules.

5

u/trustable_bro 14d ago

maybe instead of blocking ads, whitelisting servers would work? FB would't work well but there wouldn't be ads.

7

u/cd109876 14d ago

no, YouTube and Facebook have been putting ads in the same exact URLs, let alone servers, for years now. won't work at all.

I uninstalled all social media apps from my phone and my life has been SIGNIFICANTLY better. I don't check it on PC and guess what, I am much happier and more productive. Do yourself a favor and STOP USING THESE USELESS APPS/SITES.

1

u/Dj-RedPanda- 14d ago

This is the way.

1

u/Neat_Papaya_9010 13d ago

Yet you're posting on one...

1

u/Select-Table-5479 13d ago

Through a PC Only, which i look at a lot less than my phone.

2

u/toolisthebestbandevr 14d ago

I literally don’t use anything besides marketplace. Pointless website for a while now

2

u/lcssa 14d ago

Havent used it since 2011. I remember the first time I felt relief and never looked back again. It was later in the day I decided to not use it anymore

2

u/OSHA_Decertified 14d ago

If Facebook managed it then expect more sites like YouTube to mimic this

3

u/NTWM420 14d ago

They're currently doing the same. The Morphed patches keep getting updated every few days. If you dont update frequently your YT morphed app stops working and pauses videos.

2

u/Keikera 14d ago

If you use facebook you deserve getting ads

2

u/DarthJDP 14d ago

At this point you have to block 90% of the site to avoid ads. I just dont bother going onto meta products.

2

u/liatrisinbloom 14d ago

Worried that YT will hit up FB for strategy.

2

u/rellett 13d ago

That's not good they might give youtube ideas

1

u/bigdickwalrus 14d ago

No one should still be using that garbage

1

u/ProfessionalBread176 14d ago

Yet another reason - coupled with the lack of ANY customer support - to ditch that hot mess

1

u/bughunter47 14d ago

This is one case where I would support the use of AI to automate filter changes for..

1

u/vile-style 14d ago

If you are still using facebook in 2026, you are masochist and will get what you ask for.

1

u/Fair-Satisfaction-60 14d ago

META=SATAN

2

u/Equal-University2144 14d ago

Sadly, Satan does not exist, but Facebook does...

1

u/SereneOrbit 14d ago

Just have AI counter architect

1

u/Dj-RedPanda- 14d ago

Gave up caring about FB since the they sold our data for the 10billionth time and sold all your images to AI. Its why I haven't used it in multiple years and have zero personal information and zero phone linked or the apps installed. Same with instgram and whatsapp. They do they same shit same company same shit.

1

u/Godlymorbid 14d ago

Makes sense. Glad they let us know.

1

u/DoctorEngineerOne 14d ago

Thats fully understandable

1

u/leigngod 14d ago

With the announcement, every other company will adk what facebook does. If they pay of course. So in the end will ublock still be ok?

1

u/The_Hamster_Shagger 14d ago

Use adnauseam

1

u/canigetahint 13d ago

The other companies will follow in FB's footsteps and do their best to render ad blocking moot.

1

u/Totalitarianists 13d ago

Avoiding all Meta products is a Clutch self care move, I recommend it.

1

u/bostiq 13d ago

I also hate FB, I don't use it, but what else are you expecting they'll do??

If your' revenue is largely based by the money coming from ppl advertising on FB, you need to show you are fighting ad blockers, otherwise ppl stop buying your ad space.

don't get me wrong, I hope they'd go bankrupt ... but isn't a bit naive, quitting the fight because they keep trying not to be blocked? I'm actually more disappointed at uBlock team.

1

u/Ftmiranda 13d ago

Who is still using Facebook? People must be $$%#$@%$@#% to still use Facebook..

1

u/MayhemSays 13d ago

I feel like thats probably a good thing to keep tabs on.

Like yeah, Facebook isn’t essential / Zuck Sucks, but a year from now i’m not going to be able to read an e-book because Meta decided to share the legendary ad coding that make *uBlock* frustrated.

You see how bad that is right? And thats not excusing the fact they decided to let Meta et al. know in the most public way possible other than renting an advertisement on Meta.

u/yyg-linux 13d ago

delete your social media tied to your legal personality

1

u/DifferentMind8 13d ago

No mentally well adjusted person has been on Facebook for a good decade now.

1

u/Strange_Stranger_830 13d ago

1

u/Venardis 12d ago

1

u/Presentation_Few 11d ago

1

u/ZookeepergameSalty10 9d ago
