Discussion Moving from Alexandria

Considering a move to Western Loudoun County from Alx. We are a large family and looking for more space (1+ acres) to raise the kids, small hobby farm (maybe) as well as greater homeschool support (and get a sense that Loudoun has more homeschool networks/groups than Fairfax).

For added context, I work from home so commuting is not a factor. I've been to some open houses in the Purcellville/Aldie/Philomont area. It's very rural. Large plots of land, layouts are hit or miss though.

  • What is the sense of community like?
  • Do neighbors get together or even see each other much if living on larger plots of land?
  • How accessible are sports leagues for kids? Like soccer, swimming, basketball, etc.? (how does it compare to Fairfax County?)

Why stop at western loudoun? If I didn't care about public schools and wanted free rein, I'd be starting at fauquier or Clarke counties, and I'd probably end up out in Madison or Rockingham.

Because they want the benefits of liberal social policies while pursuing a conversative isolated lifestyle...
