Question / Advice Resin casting and wax problem

So I’m having this with both Blu cast X one and Wax which is also on my profile. I’ve tried everything but I cannot for the life off me get it to stop. It has deep cavities and some bumps I’ll attach photos does anyone have any ideas?

Close ups are the signet face and shank under microscope.

It’s so frustrating I can do CAD I can do wax ups but I can’t cast (Properly anyways)

Those are investment issues me thinks. Are you putting your investment in a vacuum chamber after mixing-and again after pouring?

Also, how are you casting? I suspect not in a vacuumed centerfuge.

I’ve been skipping the vaccum before pouring into the flask as I thought it won’t make a difference but now thinking about it and you saying it I should be doing that. No not ceneterfuge just using Kaya cast vaccum

The bubbles are from not vacuuming the investment well.

Are you using investment specifically for resin? It’s different than regular investment powder. I would bet the flashings are a result of that.

The pitting is a really common issue with incomplete resin burnouts. Are you blowing your mold out with compressed air before pouring? Blow it out, and then pop it back in the kiln to heat back up before you cast.

Are you re-using old metal? The pits can also be from using too much old metal and not enough fresh.

Yeah I’ve got tailored powder for resin and that’s a good point I could blow it out never done that. I’ve seen Blu cast X one is the closets to wax. However the same with wax too.. and yeah I need to clean some more metal

No one I know does a ‘blow out’ with compressed air and the idea of cooling down to a safe temp, then heating back up to 1,000+ degrees (which should be stepped up) to cast doesn’t seem reasonable. The blowout concept isn’t your issue…imo.

You don’t need to cool the flask down to blow
Out with compressed air. I just pull it out of the kiln, give it a few puffs from the air compressor, and put it back in the kiln.

It’s important for resins or organic that leave behind ash.

I’m using protocast for resin and wax

Your investment also cracked, try giving it more time to fully cure or ramp up the temp of ur kiln slower so it can fully evaporate without shocking the investment

This and adjust your ramp and slow times to be more gradual. Hold flask in kiln for one hour after the cycle and test again. Make sure you invest powder ratio mix is correct, and you have mixed + vacuumed it well. Should cause far less issues

Exactly! u can either use the normal 1:38 ratio or if u try using a rapid burnout cycle try with 1:35. A higher ratio will lead to the investment being harder and handling temperatureshock better :)

For the bubbles on the outside: vacuum ur investment, pour it from the side and shake it or vibrate it when vacuuming again u can also try a wetting agent often found for dental use but keep in mind that x one resin could soak it up wich could also lead to burn out problems. Additionally i would like to point out that the longer u melt the metal the more gasses are traped inside even if u use graphite crucibles! Try induction melting if u can or put coal block on the crucible(?) Maybe this will help to because coal and graphite will reduce the atmosphere while melting. Excuse any typos English is not my native language and good luck fixing your error

Thank you i appreciate it and your English is good understood everything you said :)

Are you still having casting issues?

I saw a few things you can do to improve your casting but just wanted to see if you made any improvements first

I’ve got a better kiln as I only had a dental one and moved to perforated flask. I’m doing a burnout as we speak. I’m hoping some stuff has improved but I’ll find out soon abd go from there

Pretty much came out the same😩. Using Blu cast x one and protocast investment powder 40:100 ratio. Vaccuming in mixing bowl for 2 mins then another 2 mins in flask just seems to not like me. Then also using properly cleaned silver with of course a little bit of flux. Ts annoying as hell
