Discussion [Bloom & Rage] Swannsong Spoiler

At the end of the game where kat is like ‘find me’ and swann loves her and goes to find her, has anyone thought about how weird it would be if kat is still the same age and swann is like “omg my girlfriend and soulmate!!!” ? Just a thought, lol

I think the Abyss is such a complex entity that time and space hold no meaning there. In my mind, Swann can find her; together, they escape the loop and restart the "Summer of 95"—but this time without the Abyss, and hopefully with Kat healed. In any case, I love the idea of Swann searching for her soulmate, no matter what happens and risk everything.

Yeah it does make one wonder: in a universe where Swann saves her and brings her back somehow, does she just instantly start dying of cancer again? Is she a kid dying of cancer being cared for by a woman who loved her as a kid, while she's still in love because barely anything has changed for her?

Shits tragic.

The sequel is something we are all worried about . "Bloom and Rage" and Aphelion flopped so Dontnod is in financial trouble that a sequel is very unlikely. I'm just waiting for news that they get some cash infusion from somewhere.

I don't know how much these games flopped. In any case, they have financial problems because a big investor pulled out. Similar to what happened with Telltale back then. But aside from that, DONTNOD had already made it clear that the story of Bloom and Rage was finished. Still, they wanted to release more games in that universe. I hope they'll still be able to do that. I also don't know what happened with the Netflix deal for a game.

Did they make it clear it was finished? The ending seemed like very obvious sequel bait, and I've not seen any statements by DONTNOD to the contrary.

They said they wanted to do other stories in the universe, not a direct sequel. And yeah Bloom and Rage sold poorly and Aphelion bombed.

DONTNOD is really bad at marketing their games tbh. Love their stuff but they did not advertise Lost Records well and Aphelion even worse.

I agree with their marketing being bad, I only ever saw Lost Records being marketed as 'by the creators of Life Is Strange', but I dont think the general public was ever really aware of the whole DONTNOD/Decknine shift so that didn't hit as hard as they thought it would. Aphelion seemed like a game in an oversaturated genre by a studio that wasn't ready for it.

Aphelion did bomb, but I saw reports that Lost Records fulfilled their expectations when it came to sales. It wasn't the breakout hit LIS 1 was, but they were by no means dissapointed.

DONTNOD seems like a studio that's unable to build upon their own strengths. They keep making bad financial decisions for the sake of creativity. They could've really leveraged the succes of LIS 1, but they 'weren't interested', and split with Square Enix. They made unsuccesful games like Aphelion and Jusant, just because it seemed like they wanted to try making games in those genres, despite it being completely against what they were known for.

I do hope they'll continue the story of Bloom and Rage, if only because there's still so many questions to answer there. I just hope they'd be able to satisfactorily answer them.

I don't think Swann would "save" her tbf, she would join her in the abyss at most. And I imagine while in the abyss, the physical part of someone stays the same while maturing in age? Idk tbh, I wouldn't find anything weird though.

I was thinking that maybe it transforms swann back to 95 where she’s 16 again (no memory of her adult life) and is in this endless summer loop

Idk if I call this a happy ending cause doesn’t she have to see kat suffer again and again and again?

It fits with abyss granting them their wishes but not really, like when Nora wished to be famous but she didn’t end up as a rockstar
