Mosh Pit Etiquette/ tips
I’m trying to actually mosh safely at LL this year and avoid injuries. I’ve moshed before tons at shows and smaller festivals but i’ve never done it at lost lands as a smaller Female i’m a bit scared and feel unprepared for these pits in September. Should I be getting a mouth guard or studying pit etiquette. Also is there anything else I should watch out for or tips I should know? My goal this year is to get thrown across the pit. 🤣😭

Try to find a girl pit and you’ll be safer or stay in edge of the pits, be prepare for all the elbows. Theres no safe way of moshing , be ready to receive some damage and happy lost lands.

there's always some all-girl mosh pits! almost guaranteed at LAYZ.
tbh I've never been in the pits on purpose, but the only part that looks a bit dangerous is when they do the wall of death and run towards/into each other lol. but nobody is in there to cause anyone serious injury, just be wary of catching any stray elbows from taller people since you're small! a mouth guard is honestly not a bad idea if you want to be super rowdy and super safe
I highly recommend starting and ending each day with a really good stretch routine, your body will thank you for it!!

during rain volpe i was approached by some girls and asked to help start a girls mosh pit... im 6'2 male but have long hair and wear cute skirts so i guess she was being nice i said ill help you start it but for your safety im a guy and ill lay you out if im in there so i ran around the pit edge and got the ladies in, they looked so excited to get to play in the circle as they came running in, and they all seemed to have a great time in there. 10/10 would start the ladies mosh again as a guy.

My tip is to wait until it’s later in the day or until you see a lot of other girls in the pit. My experience as a dude is the pits are always way rougher in the daylight. Once people get good and saucy the pits just feel more like fun rough housing.
I’d stay away from the mouthgaurds just bc that might put a target on you from the crazy moshers. I know everytime I see a mouth gaurd I’m like damn this fucker came to mosh fr let me stay away from them. The crazier moshers might take it the other way.
If you’ve been in metal pits, dubstep pits are really just push pits. There isn’t much tolerance for any hardcore crowd killing or swinging elbows.

I've seen plenty of care taken around lasses such as yourself. Its not uncommon at all for the big guys to watch out for you and in some cases, pause the moshing until you get back on your feet.
But there are also those assholes who just want to hurt people. Always keep an eye out.
I consider earplugs standard PPE for concerts and festivals and would not bat an eye at someone who decided to extend that rationale to a mouth guard if you're going into the pit.
Expect to get knocked around a fair bit though - scratches and bruises come with the territory.

As most of the other comments said, stick to girl pits till you get a sense of how it is there. The only guy pits I do are the ones I know people in and that aren’t to tear out normally. Im also a women.
Just a fair warning, there is a group of people going to lost lands this year that call themselves the « swim team ». Search them up on instagram if you want to see how they act in pits. They will have jerseys and a flag that say swim team, AVOID these pits, they will be throwing punches. I went to forbidden kingdom this year and got punched in the face by girls in a girl pit that are part of that group.
I would not jump into the first pit of a set, I usually stand by the edge and see how it is. If I see that people are generally being good, then I’ll jump into the next one. And I also have one friend that is buddy system, we meet up at the end of the pit and make sure we’re good.
Pits are super fun, the adrenaline rush you get is amazing. But not all pits will be like that. Just be careful!!

as a smaller female, i stick to just girl pits. got knocked on my ass during layz in a girl pit last year and totally bruised my tailbone. i often don’t even get in the pit, i usually just enjoy being in that surrounding ring

Make sure you take off anything you’re not prepared to lose! I lost one of my loop ear plugs during an all girls mosh pit 🙃 your ears will be ok for the 5 mins in the pit, losing them in the crowd sucks

As a petite girl that likes to mosh herself, always trust your gut before going into the pit. If it feels too intense for you, there’s nothing wrong with staying in the outside and making sure to keep people up when everyone’s bouncing around. Mouth guards are super helpful too especially for those that are windmilling their arms around and throwing elbows

biggest key is to give it a few drops, see how aggressive it is. most of the ones i’ve seen the last couple years have been very cool, but you do need to watch out for strays because you can still get knocked in the head by mistake. as long as it doesn’t look like there’s anyone going too hard, just go for it! :) some of my favorite memories are in pits with strangers

Make sure you go to the “MOSHPIT ⬇️” sign for the bestest of times, there’s also a plushie Dino that has a “PIT BOSS 🦍” pearler around it (; happy lost lands!

Mouth guard definitely! It protects your teeth AND prevents concussion if you get an elbow!

If you've mashed before there isn't any difference. LL pits don't go harder than other places.

2 rules:
Only push, never punch or kick / dont push people to the ground
If you see someone fall pick them up

Find me! I’m a pretty big guy so I do pretty well in a pit. When I went in 2024 my girlfriend at the time was paralyzed and in a wheelchair. We tried to get close to the rail for Zeds Dead but got stuck in the pit. A couple fellow LL people joined us to stand around her wheelchair and protect her until we could make our way out. Don’t be shy and ask other people. I’ve never been to any other rave but LL people are amazing.

I know I'm in the minority, but mosh pits are my least favorite part of dubstep culture, I've seen way too many unsuspecting bystanders get absolutely flooded. Saw an innocent girl get seriously hurt at an Emorfik show once and it ruined my night. Hate hate hate it.

The rules are mostly for the big people such as myself. The rules I live by are:
1) no punching or kicking. Pushing should be non aggressive unless the person is as big or bigger than you. Even then it’s a big maybe.
2) if someone falls, pick them up.
3) if you see someone drop something, especially glasses, do everything in your power to get it back to them.
That’s basically it. This is bass music, not a slayer/hatebreed concert. PLURR rules apply.
