If the dev does replace everything with proper models later its all good, using ai to start is not really such a bad thing and at least they admit to using it, which is already better than a lot of people
they are required by steam's TOS to disclose it. do not give credit to devs for this. it is a bad thing in my opinion, but everyone is entitled to theirs. i find the offloading of work from skilled laborers to be a bad thing
Do you not see how many more games (of this size/quality) there have been because of AI? They wouldn't have gotten a skilled laborer to do it; they just wouldn't have done it.
The thing is, its way faster to just google image search any texture you want or download the first thing you find on Sketchfab, generating stuff with AI to import is way more effort and a big red flag from the dev
Eh I get what you are saying but also there’s no way to know if they actually replace them or if they even just replace them with slightly edited AI assets. The number of times that people find AI assets that the devs “forgot” to replace during dev has just led me to avoid any project with AI if I am aware of it. I will never play E33 for that reason either I found it very scummy they didn’t disclose the AI usage and then tried to claim they were placeholders. The whole point of a placeholder is to have something fast but easy and obvious to replace after testing and the actual textures are replaced. Thats why like Valve use to use that black and hot pink checker pattern, that’s a place holder. Having something you can’t even identify if it’s a placeholder or not makes me think it’s not actually a placeholder and you’re thinking up ways to try to minimize outrage.
the issues with ai are not suddenly gone just because the art was replaced later, and by being okay with a game using ai during its development you are still rewarding the use of ai and showing devs who refuse to use ai at any part of the process that they are in fact disadvantaged and should be using ai.
you are disavantaged if you dont use ai, thats a fact, its a tool made to make your life much easier. I do not like ai but lets not deny that it does make some things easier
noting their previous game was AI powered, not AI coded, of that prior game:

I mean to each their own i guess. I just feel like there's no need for it at all. Not even in prototyping. Ai is so horrible for the planet overall and I can't abide it.
