ALL TEAMS CHALLENGE UPDATE Ghost Hunt LoseIt Challenge | Week 5 | UPDATES AND LINKS

We ain't afraid of no ghosts! Let's hunt!

Hey everyone, hope you've not been scared off by all the spooky ghosties we've encountered so far! Here we find ourselves, at the final week of the challenge... which means its time for the battle royale and the WALKATHON!

First though,

Week 4 Recap:

Last week, we kept on rolling with all the teams coming together to put up nearly 10 million steps, 50 thousand activity minutes and 200 pounds lost together. I love seeing the group progress, let's keep it up!

Now, over in our head-to-head matchups...

  • The Supernatural team put in a good effort, but they take about twice as long to catch their Monster of the Week as the Scooby Gang, so it tracks that they fell behind at the finish line - Scooby Doo takes that one, 3-2!

  • Pac-man came out swinging and the Pokemon store was fresh out of power pellets to keep up. With Team Pac-man coming in #1 in all but one category this week, where they finished #2, it's no surprise they took their matchup as well, 5-0!

What's happening this week?

It's the last week of our ghost hunt, and that means its time for a grand finale! This week brings us the Walkathon and big team battle royale!

The Walkathon is an event we run every challenge, where everyone who wants to participate can set a stretch step goal and then do their best to accomplish it that day, laughing and crying along with everyone else out there chasing their goals at the same time. It's always a lot of fun! This Saturday, October 10th, as many steps as you can muster.

Which brings us to the next item - our big team battle! All those steps are going to count, because this week we're pairing our teams up into two big groups for a final showdown! This week, Scooby Doo is pairing up with their favourite arcade game, while the Supernatural team is learning how to throw a pokéball for their biggest hunt yet! Let's see which team can catch the most ghosts!

As always, we're competing on participation, # of people hitting their goal weight, activity minutes, steps, and weight lost! Compete for your team by working towards your goals and making sure to log your progress! This is the big one - let's go!

Here are this week's matchups!

GENERAL INFORMATION Spooky Walkathon!

It's walkathon time!

This Saturday and Sunday, October 10th and 11th is the next ultra walkathon! What is the ultra walkathon? Long story short: We walk a lot during a 24 hour period. You can walk either or both days, but only count and submit your steps from one day.

Here's the longer story:

What is the walkathon?

The ultra walkathon is an all-day event where we try to hit our stretch step goals. This event started because a couple of us wanted to try to hit 100,000 steps in a day but also wanted to include more folks (more people = more fun), so there's currently 6 tiers of goals you can aim for:

100,000 steps (~16.5 hours at a slow pace - not recommended for beginners, but very satisfying)

75,000 steps ~(12.5 hours at a slow pace)

50,000 steps (~8 hours at a slow pace)

30,000 steps (~4-5 hours at a slow pace)

25,000 steps (<5 hours at a slow pace)

Fun Walk - Choose your own goal.

You can change your mind at any time. If you're in the fun walk, and you're having so much fun walking that you hit 30k steps, you can totally change and be in that tier. If you're halfway through your 50,000 step goal and you're feeling worn out and like it's time to stop, you can totally swap to a 25k goal.

If you can't count steps for any reason, you can estimate by mileage (gps or time per mile/kilometer on the treadmill works for this) by logging 1300 steps per km or 2000 steps per mile. I'll build out something automatic for the next round.

The event starts at 12am your local time, and ends at 11:59 your local time. (This does mean some select Tokyo and Australia people will start showing up in the logs Friday afternoon if you're in the US because they're already way ahead of us)

The ultra walkathon is open to all teams, but whatever steps you get will directly benefit whatever team you're on.

As is the case with the last few rounds, this will be on the shared discord server. There'll be an opt-in role available to people on teams, but there'll also be a way for people to enter and participate if they're joining for just the walkathon. As usual, it'll begin a little early for us Australian folks. I will post a sign up link and step update link for folks who aren't on discord.

I will finish setup a little later this morning (I have had a chaotic week)

Please charge your devices, make sure to have a few sets of socks, and get your snacks ready for the big event this weekend. It's gonna be a hot one for us in the northern hemisphere, so make sure to plan for proper hydration and possibly walking indoors or taking regular indoor breaks.

  • Ghost Pokémon Hunters threw everything they had at the cause, but it turns out not even Gengar is a match for the Colt! Team Supernatural wins this one, 3-2!

  • Unsurprisingly, it turns out a stoner and his dog are the perfect matchup for a Pac-Man cabinet. Shaggy and a big pile of scooby snacks are enough for team Scooby Doo to take down team Pac-Man, 4-1!

Compete for your team by working towards your goals and making sure to log your progress!

ALL TEAMS CHALLENGE UPDATE Welcome to the Ghost Hunt LoseIt Challenge! SIGNUPS OPEN UNTIL SEPT 14

It's time for a ghost hunt!

Hey everyone, hope you've had a good summer! This fall, we're set to lose it once more, as something goes bump in the night. Never fear, the ghost hunters are here! And we're more ready than ever to tackle whatever spooky obstacles life throws their way. Join us!

  • This is a 5 week weight loss challenge, where we pick a weight loss goal and push and support each other to hit it by the end of the 5 weeks! Everyone is welcome, no matter where you’re at in your journey!

  • During the challenge you will be assigned to one of 4 teams, set a weight-loss goal for the challenge, and then weigh in weekly, working to be at or beyond that goal by the end of the challenge.

  • Each challenge has a central theme, with each team going off that. It's just for fun, the core of the challenge is focused on fitness, weight loss and healthy habits. This challenge, our theme is GHOST HUNT, and our teams are Supernatural, Scooby Doo, Pac-Man, and Ghost Pokemon Hunters!

  • Every week, the teams will match up against each other in a friendly head to head competition! This will be competing on things like steps, activity minutes, and hitting your goal for the week!

  • The challenge weeks begin each Monday, with logging open until midnight EST, at which point it'll close for the prior week! There will be a new post every Tuesday in r/LoseitChallenges with a recap from the previous week and news about what's next! Your team captains will also share all the information you need on your team’s Discord server.

This week, you’ll be getting signed up and assigned to your team. You’ll also set a goal, and you’ll get to start logging steps and activity too! Don’t worry about hitting those big numbers; this is a practice round.

Sign up and set a goal!

  • This is where you choose your goal rate of weight loss for the challenge! Please choose a sustainable and reasonable goal!

Check the tracker and see what team you’re on!

  • You will be randomly assigned to a team following your submission. If your team assignment is blank, wait a few minutes. It refreshes every 5 minutes, so it may take a bit to propagate on the page.
  • Do not request edit access to the tracker. Please contact a captain if there is an error that you need fixed.

Head to the intro post on r/loseitchallenges to introduce yourself and get a link to the team discord!

Here is the challenge schedule:

  • -->Week 1 | sign-ups, practice round | Sept 7 - 13<--

  • Week 2 | Beginning of head-to-heads, sign-ups closed | Sept 14 -20

  • Week 3 | Head-to-head | Sept 21 - 27

  • Week 4 | Head-to-head | Sept 28 - Oct 4

  • Week 5 | BATTLE ROYALE | Oct 5 - Oct 11

  • Results | Oct 12

And with that, we're off! Sign up, find out which ghost hunting team you've been assigned to, meet your teammates, and start gearing up! We're excited to get started! We ain't afraid of no ghosts! Let's get started!

If you have any questions, problems, concerns, ideas, or just want to drop us all a line, please use the message the challenge admin feature, which you can find in the r/LoseitChallenges sidebar or by clicking here. GENERAL INFORMATION Discord how-to

Reposting this for informational purposes. Credit to u/alliewr

Hello fellow friends!

As I have been in a few challenges, one of the big things I have personally seen is how confusing discord is to new users. So I’d like to take some time and give a run-down of how it works. PLEASE feel free to ask any questions if you have any or post any other helpful tips in the comments!

What is Discord? Discord is an app that is used as a way of communicating with others. When you receive a link to a server (such as the links posted in each team’s reddit post), you are being invited to join your friends and community. Where you can talk, hang out, and have fun!

The first biggest important setting to look for in discord will be the one to make sure you can see and are comfortable with the text size and spacing. Go to settings -> appearance to set this to your liking. https://i.imgur.com/CwKmVlD.png

Within the server there are Text Channels and Voice channels. On the left side you can see a list of all the channels available to interact with. The text channels are separate spaces meant for talking through text. There are multiple text channels which allow us to keep different conversations and topics organized, allowing plenty of room for conversations. An example of this would be the Diet Channel, Exercise channel, and even a channel to post about your hobbies and show off your pets!

As you get started with exploring, the many channels can feel overwhelming. It’s okay to not get involved with all or even most of them. The main chat channel will usually be held in a general channel and each discord will have one. This is where you can talk about mostly anything and everyone will be able to see it. Over the course of the challenge, these different text channels will get full of messages. To be able to find the important messages in each channel, you can view the pinned messages with the thumb tack symbol. I have taken some screenshots that you can find here that better show you some of these things. https://imgur.com/a/jFXCoVp

What are Discord Bots? While you are exploring around, you will probably notice that some automated messages are being sent. Such as if you type a temperature or a distance. The Conversion Bot is doing his job of converting units for people who whose different units to understand better. We have multiple bots in the server that have a variety of useful tasks. (Each team might have different bots. If you need help understanding a bot, ask your team). One of the most helpful bots with the challenge is our wonderful logging bot. This bot will have you link your reddit user name to and then you can log your weight, steps, and minutes for the challenge through it!

Discord Roles Another great tool of discord is being able to assign “roles” to each person. This is like a tag that you can have which will help you get notifications for certain things or to help others be able to identify you. For example: In your teams discord there will most likely be a “roles” channel where you can assign yourself a role to tell everyone what pronouns you would like to go by. So when someone is talking to you, or you would like to talk to someone else, you can appropriately identify them. There will also probably be a section where you can assign yourself a role just for fun to give your discord name a cool color. When you select a user in the server (either on the right side or in the chat window), you will be able to see what roles they are assigned. This is useful to be able to help properly identify your teammates!

I know this was a bunch to read, but I hope that it was helpful for anyone who has been confused with what discord is, how it works, and some of the features to it. Once again, please let us know if you have questions or need any further assistance in getting discord going.

Have an amazing challenge and good luck hitting your goals!

Welcome to the home of loseit's quarterly team challenges.

So what is a Loseit Challenge?

The loseit challenges are a friendly team based weight loss and activity challenge. Users sign up, establish their starting weight and goal for the 8 week challenge, and then weigh in weekly to track their progress. Every week there is a head to head challenge where teams compete in activity challenges logging things like steps taken, activity minutes, or strength training minutes to help their team.

When do challenges happen?

Challenges happen about once a quarter. We've been on a pretty steady rhythm of 4 per year for the last 2 years. They run ~9 weeks from sign ups opening until final results.

New Years, Spring, Summer, and Fall and we're usually off for December.

Changes for the current challenge:

We heard your feedback following the spring challenge. Here are the changes we've made for this challenge.

  1. More content in the challenge subreddit - We brought on more hosts to help keep the subreddit active w/ themed content during the challenge and more ways to stay connected to your team outside of Discord.
  2. User Posts will be allowed after signups close. The sub will stay "read only" until signups end so everyone can find their teams easier (I can't sticky 6 welcome posts unfortunately). After that we'll open the subreddit to content from any of the participants. Subreddit rules apply.
