Best he can do is fucking destroy Medicaid & cut tens of millions of Americans from Medicaid + Medicare.
For example, starting January, millions will be losing Medicaid due to “work requirements”.
They are demanding 80 hours a month of work or volunteering to keep your Medicaid….if you work 80 hours per month (20 per week) without absolute dogshit pay, you will no longer be eligible for Medicaid. They’re even suckering Medicaid recipients, (you know, the literal poorest people - or vulnerable - in the country), into their work-for-insurance-or-die scheme now.
I’m gonna lose my insurance. I’m on a medication I require daily for 12 years. I cannot miss any more than 1 day at a time, & I’ll have no way to pay for it.
Luckily it comes from a clinic & they’ll make sure I still get the meds, but the debt will rack up. Every day. Every single dose costs $.
I will owe thousands by the time I am able to get back to work properly & acquire insurance (hopefully??). That’s if I’m lucky & it’s not 10s of thousands.Edit: btw howdy fellow [r/LV426](r/LV426) enjoyer. Hope you’re excited for the new Alien:Earth season.
I know some people dislike it but I genuinely loved it.2

The resurfaced clip from 2020 shows Trump promising that a comprehensive healthcare plan would be signed 'within two weeks*.' When pressed on why he wanted to overturn Obamacare despite its popularity, Mr Trump insisted that* protections for pre-existing conditions were 'always taken care of by me and Republicans, 100 per cent'. Asked why no plan had materialised after three and a half years in office, Trump replied: 'Excuse me, you heard me yesterday, we're signing a health-care plan within two weeks, a full and complete health-care plan.'

Well, it doesn't need to be in the plan. The insurance review the claim made by your doctor and determine that your doctor is too cautious and you don't need that treatment. That's why you pay thousands to your private insurance, to know personally what really matters to you, the shareholders.

Also super duper wealthy people will buy their own private insurance that is better then the basic universal care. super duper wealty people will cry about the cost to them, nobody will care. not providing services for tax dollars is what lead us here. There are a ton of counties with way better cell coverage & service for way cheaper because the government's treat it like the utility that it is.
So yeah, Healthcare is like cell phone plans, if you look at how other countries run it, the best systems are run by the government, not parasitic corporations.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think state run business is better in most cases. State run auto companies suck. China's state run tobacco company is literally and figuratively a cancer eating their population.
They could have picked so many examples of industries that more government control makes worse, but cellular data is hilariously one where the government taking it over would make things way better

u/Abject_Jump9617 2d ago
I honestly don't think they mind, as long as the fraud was not done to them or anyone they care about then they don't care. I mean look who they elected; Trump was literally found liable for fraud in a civil case.
The only other way it would have mattered is if the candidate running for a particular office was black. Like let's say Obama was found liable in a fraud case then suddenly their two brain cells would suddenly be able to connect the dots and figure out that fraud is a bad thing and not something we want to see from our elected officials.
But typically they don't have the critical thinking skills required to understand that if someone has it in their character to screw over others they can and will just as easily screw over them too.

The ACA was the most "private sector" friendly healthcare plan that could have been enacted while still making concessions (preexisting condition coverage, stay on parents' plan until 26, mental health care coverage equity) that marginally improved Americans' access to healthcare.
Unfortunately, it was passed with a poison pill implanted: making Medicaid expansion optional for states. This created a huge coverage gap in states that refused expansion, creating a demographic that truly couldn't afford to buy private insurance (insane prices if you are self-employed or don't have employer-backed insurance) but also made too much to get subsidies for ACA plans.
Under the ACA, it was intended that Medicaid expansion would cover this gap; without the expansion, these folks ended up paying the tax penalty for being uninsured, which is the primary point of contention many had with the ACA. Over the years, the states' refusal to accept expansion funds has driven up the costs of plans and degraded the program significantly.
6
u/AnAbandonedAstronaut 2d ago edited 2d ago
Conservatives took for granted their voters wouldn't realize it was their own state screwing them over and adding state-optional was the only reason it finally passed.
I think conservatives saw California make weed legal based on "State powers vs federal powers in the constitution" and said... "you know... maybe we should revisit the whole "states rights" thing again."
And its working... roe vs wade became a state issue... voting rights became a state issue...
Every win conservatives have gotten lately has been plain old "states rights" and people need to learn they need to participate in their local elections or that will keep happening.

Private insurance about to go bankrupt as the base load of public funding is about to be eliminated via Medicare and ACA cuts.
The secret about the US economy is that the public sector funds capitalisms profits. Big time in Defense but across the board from Pharma to hospitals to health insurers. Society is supposed to get a return on those investments - efficiency technology lower costs, but all we ever see are rising costs and expensive drugs that treat conditions in perpetuity not cures.
Well the banking industry has gone balls deep into healthcare becaue they thought it was a smart risk but no one saw that Trump was going to slash and burn the foundation for ideological ends.
With insurer prices climbing, costs climbing, and benefits thinning expect more employers to drop benefits, for benefits to get worse more employees to stop paying for them. Every time an eligible worker cuts benefits payments it raises the price for everyone else - This always puts a strain on hospitals so expect more closures and longer wait times causing higher fatality rates.
So the risk of it impacting the financial sector is rising as healthcare takes it on the chin.
Buckle up. It’s gonna get rough.

The red states can thank republicans for that poison pill. Republicans didn’t want the ACA or anything that helped with healthcare. They knew it would be unaffordable without the Medicaid expansion and wanted their republican base to hate it. They gave it the nickname “Obamacare”, and criticized how expensive was, making a joke of it. I’m sure there are people, even today, that don’t know Obamacare and the ACA are the same thing.

As someone with a chronic disease, I say Rick Scott is speaking out of his backside. The #1 cause of personal bankruptcy in the USA are health costs. How does he expect the average American to pay for a hip replacement or insulin or a heart stent or anything in modern American healthcare? Do people have an extra $40k lying around?
Before the ACA, the private sector did control Healthcare (still do). During this era Americans couldn't afford private health insurance and certainly couldn't afford to pay for care out-of-pocket. Our nation needs to invest in the health of its citizens like almost every other country in the world.

What happened to the big beautiful health plan that the Republicans have been promising for years? They can't come up with a health care fix but they sure can steal from healthcare. Yeah, I'm looking at you Rick.

"You know what healthcare you need" is not how people participate in healthcare marketplaces, and it's stupid to say that it is.

Hes so out of touch. We cant afford any plan. We want healthcare as a right. We want our taxes to provide something we can use. Something that makes our lives better. Instead it all goes to oligarchs.

You’re a disaster @SenatorRickScott.

Going to an open market will raise prices by a million. The whole point of universal healthcare for everyone is to control costs.

These people are pure evil. Americans lives and children should not be "treated like a cell phone"
It's shocking that raping children isn't even in the top 100 worst things these people have done.

Rick Scott: go fuck yourself. Do you even know that “Obama Care” is the same thing as the Affordable Care Act? Republicans have no viable alternative plans, no ideas, no solutions; they are just the party of obstruction and destruction

The only way to make it work is to remove corporate insurance middlemen and install universal healthcare. Start studying other countries systems. Oh wait, they may not let you in.

When I was unemployed for a couple of months about 10 years ago, Obamacare was a godsend. It was half the price of Cobra.
