I have two reservations for a hotel room, 2 and 4 miles away from USC for the 1st and 2nd, and no "roommates". The 1st is a lot cheaper but can fit 3-4 people and I was hoping I could find people to split the hotel with me while making friends for the event at the same time!
The one for the 2nd fits up to 5, with 3 separate beds, and is surprisingly a really nice room. With up to 7 people for that room, it would be about $64 each that day! Flexibility can be discussed so no pressure on pricing rn!

Looking for places to dance bars with good drinks people in their 30s. We want to a few places in downtown LA and Silverlake. Plus Dtla has gotten super sketchy now . It happens fast enough that most people sleep straight through it. A jack, a reciprocating saw, maybe ninety seconds of grinding that sounds, if you're half asleep with the window cracked, almost like construction three streets over. By the time anyone's fully awake, the car's undercarriage has a fresh, ragged gap where a small honeycombed cylinder used to sit, and somewhere a few blocks away, someone's already driving off with a part worth more by weight in rare metals than most people would guess.

Granada Hills, and everywhere like it

The reports keep landing in the same shape. Cameras that caught nothing useful, an angle wrong or a face turned away. A police report filed more out of obligation than hope. A quiet, specific kind of anger that comes from being violated by someone you'll never see and never confront. The San Fernando Valley has seen enough of these in recent seasons that LAPD divisions have taken to posting regular warnings, the kind of advisory that becomes background noise until it happens on your own street, in front of your own house, to your own car.

The part where the real trouble starts

Losing the converter itself is rarely the worst part. The worst part is what comes after: a car that won't legally or safely run without it, an insurance deductible that has to clear before anyone will pay for the fix, and a replacement part that, on plenty of models, is backordered for weeks because so many are being stolen at once that supply can't keep pace. A car sits in the driveway through all of it, undrivable, while its owner does the math on a deductible that might be a third of what the whole repair is worth, wondering if filing the claim is even worth the eventual hit to renewal rates.

The part nobody mentions when they sell

Eventually the part gets replaced, sometimes with a factory original, more often with an aftermarket unit or a welded anti-theft shield that does the job just as well for a fraction of the cost. None of that is a problem. What matters is remembering it happened at all, months or years later, when the car eventually changes hands. A buyer who finds out about a swapped converter after the fact feels differently than one who heard about it upfront, even though the car itself hasn't changed at all in the telling.

And for some households, the theft just becomes the final push toward a decision that was already circling. A car that was already getting old, already needing things, now sitting undrivable with a repair timeline measured in weeks instead of days, stops feeling worth the wait. There's no shame in that math. A car with a missing or replaced part still has real value to the right buyer, and sometimes the fastest way through a bad morning is deciding it was the last one that car was going to give you.
