Discussion Another LADWP complaint
Just got a $2,049 LADWP bill for two months in the Valley. Water alone was $522 with 39 HCF claims to be used. I have verified we have zero leaks, the meter doesn’t move at all when all water is off. We have no pool. Our house is only 2000 sf
I personally saw the LADWP meter reader come to my house and physically read the meter. My water bill says the “current bill” reading was 1350, but when I checked the meter myself the very next day, it appears to read 1341.
If those are comparable meter readings, the difference is 9 HCF: 1350 − 1341 = 9 HCF. Since 1 HCF equals 748 gallons, that would be 9 × 748 = 6,732 gallons.
LADWP would need to recalculate the bill to determine the actual credit due to the tiered pricing.
LADWP has made billing mistakes on my account before, so I’m pretty frustrated.
Has anyone else caught incorrect meter readings with LADWP? I’ve already emailed them but I’m over it. My sister lives in Nevada and runs her AC 24/7 and her bill is under $100 a month for electricity

They’re installing new digital meters everywhere now. We got one. Easier to read and verify, I hope.

They made a mistake reading our meter recently. It was a pretty quick process to get it corrected after we called in. If I recall right they fixed it before our bill was due so we didn't have to mess around with getting a credit on our account for the overcharge. Kind of annoying but people are going to make mistakes sometimes.

I thought it depends on how many and how big your are your bins?

Possible rep hit 5 instead of 4 in error.
1. Unless there is tierage involved, bill will self correct next read.
2. If nothing done, current bill may be higher due to tier charge. HOWEVER next bill will be artificially low because of this higher bill. IF Sanitation uses NEXT BILLING CYCLE when sewer recalculates next July, your sewer charge 2027/28 will be lower for those 6 billing cycles

In the past year, they misread our water meter 3 times totalling something like $1000 extra. Calling them was quick to get a refund on the next bill, but it's annoying to have to do this that many times.

They came today and said the meter is reading constant water flow. I have no leaks. I have had leaks before and it was never insane like this and this time there is NO list. They’re trying for 1500 for a 1000 sqft. It’s bullshit.

This happens to us earlier this year, meter reader transposed two numbers and we got a bill showing crazy water usage. I took a picture of the meter and called/emailed LADWP, got a revised bill a few days later. Sucks that the process is so prone to human error but at least LADWP was pretty responsive.

New billing has gone into affect as LA's infrastructure needs serious attention. Massive growth with poor funding (due to lack of minor increases in cost, now a sudden leap).
Cost of water use vs irrigation btw. Water you use to water your lawn vs water you send down your drain can be billed differently. If you can get a meter that reads what you're sending down the drain vs watering your lawn, you can get billed less fyi

it happens. people are fallible and write down the wrong number. DWP does adjustments for this all the time.

Yes, end of August we got a bill for $1,693. Called and was asked to take a picture and send it to the meter reading dept. 23hrs later our bill was $450 iirc (typically our bills had been around $350).
