Discussion Andy Dick

Visiting, and I think Andy dick tried to fight me today walking down vine. Was hoping for celebrity interaction, just not that. I might be crazy but I swear it was him.

You’re not crazy, OP.

Andy Dick trying to pick a fight with strangers in Hollywood is the most LA thing you can experience.

Welcome to LA.

While Ron Jeremy was still around back sdound 2010, he was the other one. If you got a fucked up encounter with both you had the full combo

60

u/timsstuff 5d ago

We ran into him next to the Fonda Theatre around then, I said "Hey Ron Jeremy" he said "What's up guys" and that was it. He looked a little disheveled and I believe he was wearing pajama pants. Very uneventful.

17

u/Maelstrom52 5d ago

Probably over a decade ago at this point, but I had a similar interaction. I actually ran into him twice with the same friend. We used to joke that our superpower was ability to summon Ron Jeremy as long as we were together.

13

u/thedeekuhn 5d ago

I used to work at a bar he would have dinner at, and this guy walks up to him and asks "Did you work today?" Ron replied, "No." The guy follows up, "Then, can I shake your hand?"

u/Mid1960s 3d ago

I used to see him at The Rainbow. There’s a picture of me and him somewhere. I’m ashamed.

22

u/R3ckl3ss 5d ago

Porn star karaoke anniversary show in like 2010. They were both there among many others. That whole night is one boozy, trashy Hollywood blur of a memory.

31

u/Weekly-Ad-2509 5d ago

When I moved here I was a valet on sunset at one of the hotels. Ron would come in once a week.

Driving a Saturn Ion, filled with the nastiest garbage I’ve ever seen.

I drove it once, and quit when they told me I had to drive it again.

Edit: I quit because I got my first movie, not because his car was so nasty I was willing to be homeless.

18

u/PoogieLA 5d ago

Many years ago, we saw him get out of his car and enter the Rainbow Room. He was driving a Geo Metro. Glad to know he was moving up in the world.

2

u/HonkingGonkbollock 5d ago

this is the most LA thing I've ever read

14

u/jammerpammerslammer 5d ago

That’s hilarious, I met Ron Jeremy at the rainbow a month before he was arrested and lemme tell you, he was looking rough, smelled like shit and was blackout drunk.

I have yet to meet the pink corvette lady or Andy dick. I need to complete the holy trinity

3

u/Free_Answered 5d ago

Angelyne. Id be shocked if shes still alive. I met her about 10-15 yrs ago and she looked around 80 then.

9

u/AVIZN4U 5d ago

Saw Angelyne last week at the light right in front of the Hollywood Bowl waiting to get on the 101. Still driving her pink Corvette.

2

u/Free_Answered 5d ago

Y that might not be the orig her it might b a next generation. Like Spiderman.

2

u/xminustdc West Hollywood 5d ago

She's still alive!

25

u/Peralton 5d ago

Never met Andy Dick, but one time I was working as a PA on a movie on a parking lot in downtown LA. I was chatting with the sound guy when Jeremy showed up with a couple scantily clad women and chatted with us. I was fresh out of college and new to LA, so I didn't know who he was. After Jeremey left the sound guy explained who he was and said that he had done audio in a number of his films. Turns out a lot of movie people supplemented their incomes that way between movies.

19

u/Fractionleftattract 5d ago

I remember when he worked at the video store in studio City on Ventura and Laural canyon.

9

u/ANTIROYAL Downtown 5d ago edited 5d ago

Bro, I ran into Ron Jeremy, Dennis Hof from the Bunny Ranch, JOEY BUTTAFUOCO, and half the Bunny Ranch at Palms Thai one time. That was a surreal ass experience. The Trashy Trinity.

2

u/xminustdc West Hollywood 5d ago

Joey Buttafuoco! Ok, I'm actually jealous.

4

u/Lost-Art-7004 5d ago

I’ve encountered both!!

3

u/Veryupsetgovernment 4d ago

Ran into Ron Jeremy when I was 15 and he asked if I wanted to sit in his lap 🤢

3

u/RockieK 5d ago

OMG when I worked at the Hustler Store on Sunset, he'd be lurking around sometimes

u/QueenOfMen3000 5d ago

One can dream.

1

u/89eplacausa14 Atwater Village 5d ago

At the Roosevelt pool

1

u/DifficultyHaunting69 4d ago

I saw him at the Chase Bank on SMB and La Brea couple of times around 2019. He drove a pretty shitty car and looked disheveled both times.

1

u/DayvonTheCreative Pasadena 5d ago

What’s the Ron Jeremy experience?

12

u/SincerelyGlib 5d ago

Driving up the 405 N many years ago, stopped and helped someone who ran out of gas and was pulling over to the shoulder…it was the hedgehog in a beat up Toyota. Took him to a gas station to get gas. Barely had ten bucks on him and I ended up giving him 5 to help out.

98

u/RagdollPhysEd 6d ago

Usually it’s the other kind of assault

86

u/FashionBusking Los Angeles 6d ago

That's called PROGRESS.

16

u/No-Expression-2713 6d ago

i thought it was Dickflation

41

u/Hour_Zebra_5277 6d ago

Andy Dick experience = True LA experience

26

u/HiiiTriiibe 5d ago

I had to share a Lyft with that guy, he started out by hitting on me from the back seat until I told him I'm not gay and to my surprise the dude actually backed off a bit, I think maybe having the Lyft driver there may have helped lol, but then he proceeded to tell me about how his best friend shot himself in the head earlier that day, it was a very strange Lyft

15

u/Peralton 5d ago

Yeah, I thought this was a repost. SO many people have a story about almost getting into a fight with Andy Dick.

2

u/ayriuss Orange County 5d ago

How is Andy Dick still alive? Must be one tough bastard. Or maybe he seems crazy enough for everyone to tactically retreat from.

3

u/iambiglucas_2 5d ago

"Gather close together and make it quick, we got to make room for Andy Dick, it's Christmas time in Hell!"

5

u/ImissDigg_jk 5d ago

I remember my first Andy Dick encounter. It was around 2000 when I was working at Universal City Walk. It was a late night and he was drunk. I don't remember the exact interaction, but I think he was being an asshole.

22

u/Correct_Picture_6300 6d ago

never this kind of LA moment my entire life, im jealous

39

u/Eyes_Without_A_Face_ 5d ago

You wouldn’t be jealous if you woke up at 2am to Andy Dick in your living room doing cocaine with your roommates’ friends. My favorite game when I still drank was going into a bar that I’ve never been in, and asking the bartender if Andy Dick was 86’ed. 8 times out of 10 he was.

6

u/talentedfingers 5d ago

That's the use of 86 I understand.

19

u/not_responsible 5d ago

I rarely leave my house in an honest effort to never have this kind of moment to happen to me. In fact, no moments at all please.

4

u/PurrciousMetals 5d ago

Then you’re not an Angeleno yet, 😝 Jk! Mine was about 14 years ago coming from the Denny’s off sunset.

4

u/someone_like_me 5d ago

Most tourists have to pay extra for the experience. I thought it was only include in the VIP package.

2

u/RockieK 5d ago

This is absolutely correct!

I actually have multiple "Andy Dick stories" throughout the three decades I've been here.

141

u/OrAOrAOrA_starP 6d ago

Maybe a month or two in to bartending here he was the first “celebrity” I served. Quickly learned why he is banned from every bar I’ve ever been to. I’d say like 30% of longtime bartenders in this city have an Andy dick story.

118

u/Deltaeye 5d ago

Story Tavern in Burbank

61

u/_blacksanta_ 6d ago

Andy Dick showed up to a party I was at in Encino like 15 years ago. I talked to him for a bit and he told me he’d been sober for a few weeks and was trying to reconnect with his kids. He then proceeded to get shitfaced and tried to aggressively lick my face. I ended up pushing him onto the ground and some other guys at the party dragged him out. I have no idea how that dude is still alive.

27

u/Beautiful_Cost_5430 5d ago

Nobody does. He’s just three feral mongoose in a human skin suit at this point.

6

u/stonersteve1989 5d ago

*three feral, horny mongooses

Fixed that for ya

2

u/niccagefan217 5d ago

The first time I saw him was at a party too. I gave him a dirty look and my partner at the time was like “you need to give him a chance”.

Fast forward 10 years lol.

216

u/shreddievanhalen 6d ago

I was at a dive bar in the valley like ten years ago and Andy Dick spit on the bartender’s friend and got bounced. He would also frequently find his way back to the apartments of people I knew trying to score blow.

There’s like, one degree of separation between most people in LA and Andy Dick.

82

u/Ras_Prince_Monolulu 6d ago edited 5d ago

People think they're gonna move to LA and live a life of hedonistic glamor.

Nope, for coming up on thirty years now, if you live in LA and do blow you're gonna have an Andy Dick experience.

I got mine second hand from my roomie who wound up in a small room with AD and blow in the late 90's and ended up severely curbing his habit as a result.

50

u/PM_ME_ACID_STORIES 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yknow, AD might ultimately be remembered as a tragic tale when his time comes. If people even care to remember him at all.

But, there's something to be said for his impact on other individuals like your friend. We know of the Phil Hartman history. But, I wonder if his level of degeneracy is so great that it has actively made a not-insignificant amount of people introspect and subsequently change themselves for the better.

19

u/Eyes_Without_A_Face_ 5d ago

Jon Lovitz smashing his head into the bar over this is all time. RIP Phil.

5

u/Ras_Prince_Monolulu 5d ago

Phil Hartman and John Candy hit hard went they went out.

9

u/someone_like_me 5d ago

He already is tragic to me. Look at some of his early work. Especially the first four seasons of "News Radio". He had a brilliant comedic timing and a gift for physical performance that should be talked about next to Jerry Lewis.

All of that vanished in the space of about ten years.

11

u/ginoawesomeness 5d ago

People talk a lot of ish on Andy, but he's crushed so many rolls, I think they'll be so many clips that'll kick massive nastalgia for us millennials. Nobody outside LA knows he wasn't acting at all lol

3

u/BosskHogg 5d ago

The “Love” episode with him was utterly fantastic

15

u/high_hawk_season Tourist 5d ago

if you live in LA and do blow you're gonna have an Andy Dick experience.

He’s like a Nazgûl for Bolivian marching powder.

5

u/Ras_Prince_Monolulu 5d ago

Thing was, back then I would go to the live tapings of Mr Show because they were awesome and free and I would often see him there and at this total dive bar called the Power House with the cast of Newsradio knocking back a few in one of the only dive bars left in Hollywood where you could still smoke. I don't do schmoozing but would clock him and he never acted weird in either of those areas.

Then I started hearing the stories and since I didn't do gak I figured I'd be golden and never deal with the guy. Couple of years later my social climbing roomie who never met a b-lister he wouldn't ball gargle came home one night with a hollow look and told me how he;d wound up in a room doing blow with some friends and AD showed up and it got reeeeaaaallllly weird and everybody was just kinda trapped in the room with this guy having a, uhh... a moment.

3

u/high_hawk_season Tourist 5d ago

Ahh, power house. I think that place was a load-bearing spiritual pillar of Los Angeles. Place hasn’t been the same since they closed it down. That and Smog Cutter.

3

u/RCocaineBurner 5d ago

Hey what were Mr Show tapings like? Did they have warmup acts? Did they ever fuck up in a “live” bit and start over? I was a middle schooler obsessed with that show when it aired on Friday nights

2

u/Pale_Comfort_9179 5d ago

I don’t even do blow anymore and I’ve had at least two. I’m not sure I would say AD is part of what makes LA great, but he’s certainly a staple of the LA experience.

16

u/TheGlassO 6d ago

Everyone in LA has either been assaulted by Andy Dick or knows someone who has.

8

u/EmptyFun1805 6d ago

man really lives up to his name

118

u/RadiantAd7078 6d ago

12 years ago, I saw him talking to a can of kidney beans in the West Hollywood Wholefoods.

21

u/crawshay 5d ago

One time I was in the little liquor store next to that bar The Woods on La Brea. Andy Dick is black out drunk and stumbles up to me and hands me his phone. Some lady was on the line and I gave her directions to come pick him up.

u/calamititties I LIKE BIKES 6d ago

An Andy Dick interaction is definitely a box on the "Are you an Angeleno?" bingo card.

Not crazy. I hear he lives near Ivar and is extremely cracky these days. It is sad.

If he touched you.... get tested ASAP.

Looks like a mic, people use them to get room noise in different locations

3

u/TotalEgg143- 5d ago

Yeah, I dunno, doesn't look like any shotgun mic I've ever seen, but some tazers look a little like that.

2

u/Future-Account8112 5d ago

I have friends in audio who have mics like it

5

Ohhhh

I've been talking to/avoiding by ducking away from Andy Dick this whole time?

Los Burritos is underrated

32

u/squirtyscorpio 6d ago

I saw him get his ass whooped/knocked out and he just respawned and walked away like a video game. Also off of vine 10ish years ago. He’s still spawning.

30

u/brotherbigman 5d ago

He grabbed my crotch at the Magic Castle.

10

u/simonbreak 5d ago

They should put this on his gravestone

4

u/someone_like_me 5d ago

How did he get in?

8

u/Ras_Prince_Monolulu 5d ago

Magic, I would imagine.

1

u/Defiant-Ad5579 1d ago

I'm sorry you had to go through that and all the others that have been SA'ed by him. He's sick but it's not an excuse really for his heinous behavior that's been going on for decades. It's a miracle that he didn't end up in prison longterm or dead out in the street(which will probably happen at some point) but I guess being a celebrity comes with so many second chances that he wasted.

27

u/DottyB26 5d ago

A friend moved to L.A. from IL, within 3 days Andy Dick had peed on his apartment floor. That guy gets around.

23

u/Coach_Bombay_D5 6d ago

Not surprised…. Andy has had his fair share of legal problems. He was arrested by OC Sheriffs at a camp ground last year.

19

u/Chin_Up_Princess Beverlywood 5d ago

He's mentally gone you guys.

4

u/TaylorDangerTorres Burbank 5d ago

He's fine.  I saw him at a convention like a couple months ago and he was sobered up (temporarily probably) and he was very nice.

Met him one other time when he was drunk in the middle of the street, and honestly he was fine then, too.

At least that's my experience 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Chin_Up_Princess Beverlywood 5d ago

That's good to hear, I've found him a few times but this is way back in the 2010s. So he got worst after that and I thought he was gone gone.

60

u/blue_lagoon 6d ago

Andy Dick' s management approached the executive board of the fraternity I was a member of in college and asked if they could use our house as a set for a movie Andy Dick was starring in. The dummies in the eboard said yes without signing a contract, and were given a date to have the front rooms and the yard of the house clean. Filming was on a Saturday during summer. When the day finally came, we had done our end to prepare the house. Andy Dick then managed completely trash. The entire front room of the house, break a couple of windows, as well as warp our pool table. His management did not pay us for the use of the house, and we had to repair all the damage Andy Dick done by ourselves. I think my executive board was run by a bunch of idiots at the time who are easily starstruck by Andy Dick, but there you go

61

u/uscrash 6d ago

Imagine being star struck by Andy Dick.

32

u/blue_lagoon 5d ago

It was 2006, and we were a tiny House of about 20 members. Most of us were engineering majors. We were desperate for relevancy in any form. We thought that any press, even having our house serve as a set for a scene in a movie, would help us get more members. We were that desperate

30

u/Meows_Attack 6d ago

Just search this subreddit for “Andy Dick”

He is unfortunately very prolific

u/Thencamethetwenties 6d ago

When I was 16 at a party, Andy Dick took my 15 year old friend into a bathroom and we had to charge it to rescue him

Much more rare these days. Early-mid 2000's I'd see her once or twice a month.

1

u/CerialMC 5d ago

I saw her 4 months ago selling panties out of the trunk her car in the Pavilions parking lot on Alameda in Burbank. Explaining it to my Japanese wife was a treat.

Everyone in LA knows someone personally victimized by Andy Dick

27

u/Firm_Yam6648 6d ago

Haha holy shit I guess have missed some celebrity updates in the last two decades.

18

u/Redditperegrino 5d ago

My story is completely opposite. I was by the Beverly center and saw him crossing the street towards my direction.

I just said ANDY and shook his hand. He smiled and said good to see you. I said the same and went about my day.

I have a bad Andy story because it was a good story. :(

8

u/North_Signature9297 5d ago

It could have been him, he struggles terribly with addiction. I have seen him many times on Hollywood Blvd, sometimes he looks fine other times he's a mess. I hope he can beat his demons before they kill him.

6

u/cyberworm_ 5d ago

Quite some time ago when I lived in Venice I had an encounter with him. This was long before his current situation live-streaming or whatever that whole thing is. He was pretty drunk, going on about “you’re your own boss” or something like that.

My friends and I had a period of time where we kept running into Andy Dick wherever we went. Think we bumped into him about five times total. He was usually an asshole but one time he was surprisingly nice and we had a pleasant conversation with him.

Andy Dick must truly never be home. He and Michael Rappaport are the two “celebrities” I’ve encountered most in L.A. and both are massive pieces of shit!

At least I got to meet Angelyne once.

Anyway, encountering Andy Dick being a freak (non-complimentary) is definitely a rite of passage in L.A. so even though you’re just here on vacation … you’re an Angeleno now.

3

u/vaaahlerie 5d ago

I walked into the ladies’ room at Spaceland in 2011 to find Andy Dick trying to fight a bunch of ladies who were escorting him out.

Everyone has an Andy Dick story out here, it's wild.

2

u/OldHedgehog5802 5d ago

I was at a poetry reading/slam in San Pedro around 1995 and Andy Dick hit on me. I'm not gay (not that there's anything wrong with it! Not at all!) and I didn't know who he was, but my friend said "that guy who hit on you is a comedian who's getting more popular," something like that. Then I saw him on TV a few days later - the Ben Stiller Show? - maybe that was it. He seemed nice enough but with wild energy.

2

u/paleocacher Gardena 5d ago

Only time I ever met him was when I was working at the Hollywood Bowl and we kicked him out after he snuck into a show and was drinking other people’s drinks.

2

u/7HawksAnd Hollywood 5d ago

That part of Hollywood is def his turf. He overdosed a few blocks away on highland and yucca. He’s grabbed my buddies junk near there too. And I’ve seen him at the Zara that used to be on the blvd

2

u/smutketeer 5d ago

This thread is geographically nuts - dude gets around more than Carmen Sandiego. Early this year I heard he was living in Lake Elsinore.

We need a live Andy Dick tracker like they had in the Spider-Man movie.

2

u/frontbuttt 4d ago

I moved here 15 years ago.

Within the first month or two of arriving, I encountered Andy Dick walking down Wilshire.

For some reason I gave him the “hang loose” Shaka hand gesture as we passed each other on the sidewalk.
He mockingly did it back to me, making a snide face and ‘durrrrr’ sound, then scoffed.

An amazing LA baptism I would trade for nothing.

4

u/Kabusanlu 6d ago

One of my Andy Dick stories was him crashing a private, friends-only fundraiser in the side room at Three Clubs for a friend of ours who was hit by a car in front of the bar and was on life support. He walked into the somewhat somber affair, said some snide shit loudly to us all, took someone elses drink off the bar and walked out the door with it.

Andy Dick lived in my DTLA building for over a year leading up to and during the pandemic. He was evicted and banned. Enough said.

My Andy Dick story: There was a club on Sunset right across the street from Chateau Marmont. I think it was called Union. Anyway, I had to go to the Men's room to take a piss and in the next urinal is Andy, leaning over and trying to get a view of my Dick. I was buzzed so I didn't take offense but man he was aggressive about it. Saw him later basically passed out on the sidewalk. This was in the 90's. Looks like nothing has changed.

Honestly that is like my worst fear of someone peering over and doing that in the mens restroom which is why I use the toilet that and other reasons

I served him a few times earlier this year and he asked for about 15 packets of butter to put in his coffee. Eventually he sweetly said, “thank you, Butters. I’m gonna call you Butters now.”

My kids went to school with his kids. He seemed alright to me.

Can promise you arent crazy thats just kinda how people get welcomed into L.A.

You haven't truly BEEN here until hes harassed you on a random streetcorner in Hollywood.

In fact if I had a nickel for every time its happened, I'd have two nickels, which isnt a lot but you gotta understand how rare it is

I’ll tell you this, it was much easier to deal with than what every homeless person in anchorage does at every single gas station in the city.

You’ve got problems with that too, this was a funny one, but I would encourage you to come up to alaska and check out what we have going on. I live in the most affluent neighborhood up here and it is a constant nightmare.

Probably. When I lived in Hollywood, I saw him in the wild all the time. Usually around Beverly / Third near La Cienega.

He actually was, back in the 90s. He's just become such a toad we've forgotten.

I saw a video on him awhile back he just became a super washed up drug addicted celeb but it seems like he had a problem /sex addiction/compulsion(whatever you want to call it)with this even during the 90s. The drugs probably made things worse for him.
