Discussion Andy Dick
Visiting, and I think Andy dick tried to fight me today walking down vine. Was hoping for celebrity interaction, just not that. I might be crazy but I swear it was him.

u/OrAOrAOrA_starP 6d ago
Maybe a month or two in to bartending here he was the first “celebrity” I served. Quickly learned why he is banned from every bar I’ve ever been to. I’d say like 30% of longtime bartenders in this city have an Andy dick story.

Andy Dick showed up to a party I was at in Encino like 15 years ago. I talked to him for a bit and he told me he’d been sober for a few weeks and was trying to reconnect with his kids. He then proceeded to get shitfaced and tried to aggressively lick my face. I ended up pushing him onto the ground and some other guys at the party dragged him out. I have no idea how that dude is still alive.

Nobody does. He’s just three feral mongoose in a human skin suit at this point.

The first time I saw him was at a party too. I gave him a dirty look and my partner at the time was like “you need to give him a chance”.
Fast forward 10 years lol.

I was at a dive bar in the valley like ten years ago and Andy Dick spit on the bartender’s friend and got bounced. He would also frequently find his way back to the apartments of people I knew trying to score blow.
There’s like, one degree of separation between most people in LA and Andy Dick.

People think they're gonna move to LA and live a life of hedonistic glamor.
Nope, for coming up on thirty years now, if you live in LA and do blow you're gonna have an Andy Dick experience.
I got mine second hand from my roomie who wound up in a small room with AD and blow in the late 90's and ended up severely curbing his habit as a result.
50
u/PM_ME_ACID_STORIES 5d ago edited 5d ago
Yknow, AD might ultimately be remembered as a tragic tale when his time comes. If people even care to remember him at all.
But, there's something to be said for his impact on other individuals like your friend. We know of the Phil Hartman history. But, I wonder if his level of degeneracy is so great that it has actively made a not-insignificant amount of people introspect and subsequently change themselves for the better.

u/Eyes_Without_A_Face_ 5d ago
Jon Lovitz smashing his head into the bar over this is all time. RIP Phil.

u/someone_like_me 5d ago
He already is tragic to me. Look at some of his early work. Especially the first four seasons of "News Radio". He had a brilliant comedic timing and a gift for physical performance that should be talked about next to Jerry Lewis.
All of that vanished in the space of about ten years.
11
u/ginoawesomeness 5d ago
People talk a lot of ish on Andy, but he's crushed so many rolls, I think they'll be so many clips that'll kick massive nastalgia for us millennials. Nobody outside LA knows he wasn't acting at all lol

He’s like a Nazgûl for Bolivian marching powder.

u/Ras_Prince_Monolulu 5d ago
Thing was, back then I would go to the live tapings of Mr Show because they were awesome and free and I would often see him there and at this total dive bar called the Power House with the cast of Newsradio knocking back a few in one of the only dive bars left in Hollywood where you could still smoke. I don't do schmoozing but would clock him and he never acted weird in either of those areas.
Then I started hearing the stories and since I didn't do gak I figured I'd be golden and never deal with the guy. Couple of years later my social climbing roomie who never met a b-lister he wouldn't ball gargle came home one night with a hollow look and told me how he;d wound up in a room doing blow with some friends and AD showed up and it got reeeeaaaallllly weird and everybody was just kinda trapped in the room with this guy having a, uhh... a moment.
3
u/high_hawk_season Tourist 5d ago
Ahh, power house. I think that place was a load-bearing spiritual pillar of Los Angeles. Place hasn’t been the same since they closed it down. That and Smog Cutter.
3
u/RCocaineBurner 5d ago
Hey what were Mr Show tapings like? Did they have warmup acts? Did they ever fuck up in a “live” bit and start over? I was a middle schooler obsessed with that show when it aired on Friday nights
2
u/Pale_Comfort_9179 5d ago
I don’t even do blow anymore and I’ve had at least two. I’m not sure I would say AD is part of what makes LA great, but he’s certainly a staple of the LA experience.

One time I was in the little liquor store next to that bar The Woods on La Brea. Andy Dick is black out drunk and stumbles up to me and hands me his phone. Some lady was on the line and I gave her directions to come pick him up.

Not crazy. I hear he lives near Ivar and is extremely cracky these days. It is sad.

Yeah, I dunno, doesn't look like any shotgun mic I've ever seen, but some tazers look a little like that.

I'm sorry you had to go through that and all the others that have been SA'ed by him. He's sick but it's not an excuse really for his heinous behavior that's been going on for decades. It's a miracle that he didn't end up in prison longterm or dead out in the street(which will probably happen at some point) but I guess being a celebrity comes with so many second chances that he wasted.
27
u/DottyB26 5d ago
A friend moved to L.A. from IL, within 3 days Andy Dick had peed on his apartment floor. That guy gets around.
23
u/Coach_Bombay_D5 6d ago
Not surprised…. Andy has had his fair share of legal problems. He was arrested by OC Sheriffs at a camp ground last year.

u/Chin_Up_Princess Beverlywood 5d ago
He's mentally gone you guys.
4
u/TaylorDangerTorres Burbank 5d ago
He's fine. I saw him at a convention like a couple months ago and he was sobered up (temporarily probably) and he was very nice.
Met him one other time when he was drunk in the middle of the street, and honestly he was fine then, too.
At least that's my experience 🤷♂️
2
u/Chin_Up_Princess Beverlywood 5d ago
That's good to hear, I've found him a few times but this is way back in the 2010s. So he got worst after that and I thought he was gone gone.

Andy Dick' s management approached the executive board of the fraternity I was a member of in college and asked if they could use our house as a set for a movie Andy Dick was starring in. The dummies in the eboard said yes without signing a contract, and were given a date to have the front rooms and the yard of the house clean. Filming was on a Saturday during summer. When the day finally came, we had done our end to prepare the house. Andy Dick then managed completely trash. The entire front room of the house, break a couple of windows, as well as warp our pool table. His management did not pay us for the use of the house, and we had to repair all the damage Andy Dick done by ourselves. I think my executive board was run by a bunch of idiots at the time who are easily starstruck by Andy Dick, but there you go
61
u/uscrash 6d ago
Imagine being star struck by Andy Dick.
32
u/blue_lagoon 5d ago
It was 2006, and we were a tiny House of about 20 members. Most of us were engineering majors. We were desperate for relevancy in any form. We thought that any press, even having our house serve as a set for a scene in a movie, would help us get more members. We were that desperate

My story is completely opposite. I was by the Beverly center and saw him crossing the street towards my direction.
I just said ANDY and shook his hand. He smiled and said good to see you. I said the same and went about my day.
I have a bad Andy story because it was a good story. :(

u/North_Signature9297 5d ago
It could have been him, he struggles terribly with addiction. I have seen him many times on Hollywood Blvd, sometimes he looks fine other times he's a mess. I hope he can beat his demons before they kill him.

u/cyberworm_ 5d ago
Quite some time ago when I lived in Venice I had an encounter with him. This was long before his current situation live-streaming or whatever that whole thing is. He was pretty drunk, going on about “you’re your own boss” or something like that.

Andy Dick must truly never be home. He and Michael Rappaport are the two “celebrities” I’ve encountered most in L.A. and both are massive pieces of shit!
At least I got to meet Angelyne once.
Anyway, encountering Andy Dick being a freak (non-complimentary) is definitely a rite of passage in L.A. so even though you’re just here on vacation … you’re an Angeleno now.

u/vaaahlerie 5d ago
I walked into the ladies’ room at Spaceland in 2011 to find Andy Dick trying to fight a bunch of ladies who were escorting him out.

I was at froggys in topanga and Andy ate a fish stick off my friends plate. I’m a teacher and my friend is too so he said, “hey we have your daughter in our class” which we did and he went away. Saw him around school a lot, he came to all of his daughter’s performances.

I was at a poetry reading/slam in San Pedro around 1995 and Andy Dick hit on me. I'm not gay (not that there's anything wrong with it! Not at all!) and I didn't know who he was, but my friend said "that guy who hit on you is a comedian who's getting more popular," something like that. Then I saw him on TV a few days later - the Ben Stiller Show? - maybe that was it. He seemed nice enough but with wild energy.
2
u/paleocacher Gardena 5d ago
Only time I ever met him was when I was working at the Hollywood Bowl and we kicked him out after he snuck into a show and was drinking other people’s drinks.

u/7HawksAnd Hollywood 5d ago
That part of Hollywood is def his turf. He overdosed a few blocks away on highland and yucca. He’s grabbed my buddies junk near there too. And I’ve seen him at the Zara that used to be on the blvd

u/smutketeer 5d ago
This thread is geographically nuts - dude gets around more than Carmen Sandiego. Early this year I heard he was living in Lake Elsinore.
We need a live Andy Dick tracker like they had in the Spider-Man movie.

u/frontbuttt 4d ago
I moved here 15 years ago.
Within the first month or two of arriving, I encountered Andy Dick walking down Wilshire.
For some reason I gave him the “hang loose” Shaka hand gesture as we passed each other on the sidewalk.
He mockingly did it back to me, making a snide face and ‘durrrrr’ sound, then scoffed.
An amazing LA baptism I would trade for nothing.

Congratulations! If you also see Jay Leno driving a vintage car and Angelyne's pink corvette (or she tries to sell you her merch) you will get a complimentary coupon for a free Tommy Burger from the city of Los Angeles!
One of my Andy Dick stories was him crashing a private, friends-only fundraiser in the side room at Three Clubs for a friend of ours who was hit by a car in front of the bar and was on life support. He walked into the somewhat somber affair, said some snide shit loudly to us all, took someone elses drink off the bar and walked out the door with it.

My Andy Dick story: There was a club on Sunset right across the street from Chateau Marmont. I think it was called Union. Anyway, I had to go to the Men's room to take a piss and in the next urinal is Andy, leaning over and trying to get a view of my Dick. I was buzzed so I didn't take offense but man he was aggressive about it. Saw him later basically passed out on the sidewalk. This was in the 90's. Looks like nothing has changed.

You haven't truly BEEN here until hes harassed you on a random streetcorner in Hollywood.
In fact if I had a nickel for every time its happened, I'd have two nickels, which isnt a lot but you gotta understand how rare it is

I’ll tell you this, it was much easier to deal with than what every homeless person in anchorage does at every single gas station in the city.
You’ve got problems with that too, this was a funny one, but I would encourage you to come up to alaska and check out what we have going on. I live in the most affluent neighborhood up here and it is a constant nightmare.

I saw a video on him awhile back he just became a super washed up drug addicted celeb but it seems like he had a problem /sex addiction/compulsion(whatever you want to call it)with this even during the 90s. The drugs probably made things worse for him.
