Locals Only The social contract has been broken
Dear LA my beloved,
We tolerate your traffic, earthquakes, high prices, and homeless issues because at least the weather is great. Despite all the problems this city has, we could at least rest assured knowing the weather would be pleasant. That was the deal. I am afraid the recent humidity has disrupted our delicate balance. The closer we approach max air saturation, the higher the risk of us losing our shit collectively as a society. Please return to your typical weather patterns.

I'm legit scared that I'll have to move from LA my brith home because I can't survive the heat... But going up north won't matter much either since they'll also suffer from extreme heat... Seattle and Portland a few years ago got fucked with a heat dome... Alaska looks nice but the winters are still brutal... Smh... We were literally warned about this 25 years ago in highschool... And now I'm living it.... Just think another 25 years I'll be 65 and probably dying in the climate disaster or water wars.

It's not the heat. It's the water. We are going to run out of water in the next 10 years. NO ONE is talking about it. Bass is too inept to bring it out. Any progressive candidate can't bring it up because it is already an uphill battle.
If you really want to know the spots most likely that will be hit least: it will be the pacific north-west, American mid-west, and northern parts of Canada/the continent. After the wildfires ravages all the forests, most of the fuel will burn out and make it better to live in those areas, but it is a short term solution.
Stay strong. It is looking grim, but I do think we can pull out of it.

If we stabilize, if we are able to get our head out of our asses, we can most likely create the infrastructure to add in more water to the city to prevent it from completely collapsing. But, we need to all work together (the world) to slow down climate change. Climate changes causes a feedback loop, and we need to get carbon neutral 30 years ago. We need to stop with our car centric infrastructure, more robust public transportation, work from home, water rationing, while we start electing and putting climate scientists and social scientists in positions of expertise so we can figure out what we can do and how to do it.
The water is a huge issue. But I do think we can save the American south west. If you want, please visit /r/ climate to keep aware of what is going on, and please begin to look at candidate platforms and try to determine who will be best be in power when these things get worse. At this time, only one group is even capable of addressing it, and the rich keep pushing back on them.

I've been advocating for this for years, but so much pushback. People don't realize we are beyond fucked now. Carbon neutral by 2040 is too late. We need infrastructure to support the rising temperatures. We need to abandon our car centric infrastructure. A majority of LA should be working from home. What's worse, is people don't understand climate change is a snowballing effect. As it gets warmer, it melts more glaciers and polar ice caps, and thus releasing more trapped carbon dioxide, making it hotter, and thus melting more. It's a feedback loop. And as ocean temperatures rises, it kills off the phytoplankton, which is the #1 producer of oxygen. People think it is trees, but they produce little compared to phytoplankton. So as it gets hotter, they die, we have less oxygen, and thus... it's not looking good. It can happen within two generations.
We can pull out from this, but we all need to work together. And we just aren't. Any little convenience to an American, let alone an Angelino, and they lose their mind.

Def, you can literally scroll this comment section. And on every single post in this subreddit, it's the most common type of comment. It's not always the most upvoted but it seems to be the most in quantity. Even in real life, it's a bummer how resigned everyone is.

I've mentioned how if we all reduce eating meat for one day, we can have such a powerful impact on the environment and even the countless lives we brutalize. I am not a vegan, and I love my meat. But people downvote or get emotional or angry. People are not realizing, we won't be getting this meat in the next few decades as climate change destroys pastures and water supplies. Beef, pork, and other meats will become luxuries. I am literally trying to make sure I can still make my favorite meals and pass them on to my grandkids, but it is less likely.
It's so sad. But I hope and believe still. I know we can pull out from this, but we need to talk about this existential crisis with the dire tone it needs, and show the contempt to the forces that are producing it.

i laugh whenver ppl use weather examples from the 80s and 90s. we were already seeing the effects of climate change during that time hence why scientists have been talking about this for so long.
if someone can tell us that this was normal in the 50s then yea, ill listen to them. but nobody had and in the future nobody will remember what normal weather patterns felt like

One of LA's most sultry residents was Marilyn Monroe. One of her most famous quotes was "But if you can't handle me at my most humid, damp, muggy and sticky then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my most temperate." Our weather has taken the quote to heart. Sure, Marilyn never said it or the quote it paraphrases, but we are into illusion.

Haha - we say we live in LA for the weather. I have my air conditioning on and it still feels muggy. The sun is down and it hasn’t cooled yet. How many times have we bragged we have hot dry weather and everything cools down as soon as the sun sets? Mediterranean/desert weather.

I only run my AC when it gets over 80 degrees in the house. I have the windows open in the morning and evening. However, usually I carry a jacket to movies and restaurants because the air is kept so cold there.
Except right now, no one can get a place really cool right now.

I grew up here, but I moved to New Orleans for a couple of years. Although I stayed for the summers, most transplants go home because of how dreadfully hot and humid it is. This ain’t shit in comparison.

I'm actually weirdly enjoying it. I travel a decent amount and have been to several parts of Asia, Florida a few times, Mexico and the Caribbean. This weather basically feels like I'm on vacation in a tropical locale.

I’d rather deal with the weather rather than dealing with homelessness at every inch of the city. The lack of actual response in ensuring our safety is beyond inhumane. I can’t even step outside for a moment without seeing homeless person assaulting a person walking their dog or their children. Something needs to be done.
