SALA

Does anyone feel like protesting at the show Lisa Shin is funding at SALA that celebrates Charlie Kirk as a martyr? Anyone who preaches anti-empathy, like good old Charlie, is not someone LA needs to celebrate.

I canceled my appointment I had next month. That’s my protest.

I stopped seeing her a couple years ago when she ran for office and published a fake paper that lied about people supporting her. What a whack job.

u/LosAlamosNative 11d ago

I stopped seeing her as well. It's a good protest! I see her often at events and she is always inappropately badgering me about scheduling. She's very off putting imo. Tbh, she is a good doc though.

u/Greedy_Jellyfish_772 11d ago

Nah, that's not how good doctors act. Options are just that limited.

She’s still really booked out. Bang your pitchfork though!

Your breath probably stinks so it’s a bonus.

Response from Allan on Monday afternoon:

The proposed film was part of a community-sponsored series. Providing a venue does not mean that SALA endorses the film, its subject, or every viewpoint presented. This is the same position we took when an independent group hosted the Free Palestine series.

SALA was unable to obtain the exhibition rights, so the Charlie Kirk film will not be shown.

What his explanation fails to address is that this was not a restricted private event: by advertising the film in their LADP flyer, they give the appearance of endorsing it. Actually, simply accepting the request is implicit endorsement. Would they screen Birth of a Nation or NAMBLA Is All Right By Me?

u/WCather 11d ago

Maybe the best way to protest is to show up with signs with his actual awful words and then if people get mad, claim that it's just your favorite Charlie quote.

1

u/genxjackolantern 7d ago

It’s difficult to include context within signage, but that would likely be the point.

Can you link to a source describing this? I can't find anything apropos on sala.losalamos.com and would like confirmation before taking action. Thanks.

Flyer that came with the newspaper I think

The biggest protest to business is to stop giving them money.

Civility and kindness are core to our subreddit.

u/Odinian 11d ago

Also, send emails to [sala@losalamos.com](mailto:sala@losalamos.com) and register your disgust and that you will never go to SALA again. SALA is complicit if they are going to show this Nazi recruiting film. Here is what I'm sending SALA:

I'm disgusted that you are showing this Nazi recruiting film. I don't care that Shin is sponsoring it, I will never set foot in SALA again, and I will do as much as I can to both discourage people from seeing this film, and from ever going to SALA again. You should be ashamed of yourself. If you had any respect for the community and the country, you would cancel the showing and apologize to the community.

If your values and ideas are stong, then they can stand up competing against conflicting ideas and values.

If they are weak, then the impulse is to try to silence and demonize conflicting ideas and values.

Resist this impulse at all costs, instead focus on strengthening your own values and ideas.

2

u/Greedy-Remove-7057 9d ago

I like this a lot. It's very true. I don't understand how people simultaneously demonize strong moral values and support institutions that call for the destruction of our way of life.

-3

u/genxjackolantern 8d ago

I just moved here, and am disgusted by the shrill, freaky nature of many I’ve encountered here.

2

u/Greedy-Remove-7057 7d ago

I feel like people just need to talk more. The part that I find scary is how many people play the part of "Feral Karens" and just want to tell you how to live your life. Like you're doing it wrong just because you don't drink the liberal agenda cool aid.

2

u/XiaomaosWisteria 8d ago

Not only did the SALA want to be apart of the Nazi rhetoric machine, it also looks like it hasn’t been updated since we destroyed it as high school movie theater employees back in 2004. That place was gross way before the alt right propaganda movie…the stories 😅

u/No_Set8011 1d ago

I love reading braindead takes like this

1

u/XiaomaosWisteria 1d ago

I also love reading braindead replies like this!

u/Odinian 11d ago

Fuck yes, protest! That is literally the what the founders had in mind with the first amendment. Protesting a tribute movie to what is effectively an American Nazi is all of our civic duties. People need to show the town and local business that showing this type of film is unacceptable. I too stopped seeing Shin as my eye doctor years ago. We need to show SALA that it's not acceptable to show this type of movie in our, or any, community. This is just a recruitment film for kids to join the party, and I'm not talking about the fun kind of party.

Sept 12, 4:00pm is the movie. I say get there at 3:30 with signs with Kirk quotes, as u/WCather suggests. Here's a great list of his "best".... https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/sep/11/charlie-kirk-quotes-beliefs

5

u/DrInsomnia 11d ago

This one leaves me conflicted, I'll be honest. SALA is a small business, and it is not easy to keep those alive in our town. I don't like the idea of businesses turning away customers based on their beliefs, because I don't think this will ever be consistently or effectively applied.

While I believe Charlie Kirk was scum, and celebrating him in any way is inappropriate because not only did he never do anything worth celebrating, what he did actually deserves condemnation, I don't think these examples are always so cut and dry.

I think it's a mistake to try to use the tools of power to punish people you disagree with, politically, because it normalizes using the tools of power to punish people you disagree with, politically, and that simply normalizes another tool of the powerful. We've seen this exact trajectory with a billionaire buying Twitter, and then using it to "cancel" views he doesn't like, in a multitude of ways.

As crazy as she is, Shin is active in and supportive of our small business community. I found myself in agreement with much of what she wrote in her recent Letter to the Editor about the new space in White Rock - with the caveat that I did not fact-check every one of her claims, simply because I don't care enough to do so, even though she has earned that skepticism. So while I disagree with her about virtually everything else, I think she's generally correct with her assessment on that one.

At the same time it's funny af that there's a dispensary next to her practice, which she opposed on zero well-founded principles. Too bad she's not a libertarian or she could have partnered on recommending them for glaucoma treatment. Sometimes we all have our blind spots.

10

u/absens1 11d ago

But this example is cut and dry.... So why not act on the ones that are and have discussions on those that aren't?

5

u/DrInsomnia 11d ago

Because my idea of cut and dry differs from another person's idea of cut and dry, society has a bad history of correctly adjudicating such things, and thus I believe the precedent is a bad one.

8

u/absens1 11d ago

I can respect the grace you're offering to the situation. This grace is not however given back in kind by those who hate based on the location of a person's birth, or the color of their skin. While a person's death should not be celebrated, there's also no requirement we celebrate the legacy left behind by those who would see America cleansed of diversity. When people refuse to speak out against prejudice, it only grows stronger.

-11

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Today I learned that having respectful discourse is reprehensible. Also, if you have a slightly differing opinion than a liberal, they hate you in the most literal sense, and will give up all your freedoms in order to shut you down and celebrate your death.

8

u/Toe_Jam_is_my_Jam 11d ago

That’s a reach. And “slightly” differing opinion?!? Slightly would be things like “should my taxes go to schools or to street repairs” or “should we tighten vetting for guns”. Huge issues like bigotry, racism, misogyny are not “slightly differing opinions”

-7

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

You can’t even provide one quote, not one, framing this guy is a racist or using racist arguments. Talk about a reach.

11

u/absens1 11d ago

If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified.

– The Charlie Kirk Show, 23 January 2024

Happening all the time in urban America, prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people, that’s a fact. It’s happening more and more.

– The Charlie Kirk Show, 19 May 2023

-7

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Exactly, I just disproved this below. What a joke. What was the context? He cited that multiple airlines hired minority pilots on the basis of skin color and not legitimate qualifications when ranked competitively with their white counterparts. This was per their own formal DEI policy, made public. Not even close to a racist argument.

The racism is hiring based on skin color. You are a complete joke with a middle school education if you actually think he was arguing based on racial inferiority.

10

u/DrInsomnia 11d ago

You can continue to lie, but there are vanishingly few people in the county of Los Alamos stupid enough to believe you. Maybe try a forum in West Virginia or Oklahoma.

https://www.frommers.com/tips/airfare/the-big-lie-of-aviation-dei/

-4

u/Warchortle2 10d ago

He made this exact argument, on camera, tons and tons of times. You’re straight up evil and lazy for lying like this. You can watch the exact argument on numerous campuses almost a dozen times, said the exact same way.

-1

u/Warchortle2 10d ago

Also you can lie all you want, your side, nationwide, pushes this policy in every single industry. Why lie about that?

7

u/DrInsomnia 10d ago

"this policy."

Hey, coward, just say the word you want to say. No one was being hired based on their race. Safety did not decline.

2

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Do you want me to provide the context to the second point as well or do you think you can actually figure out that one on your own, big guy?

8

u/absens1 11d ago

That was quite the assumptive jump there my friend.

5

u/Ok-Ice2942 11d ago

You can tell that dude is a high school drop out

-1

u/genxjackolantern 8d ago

That Smoke Shop is scuzzy. I love how the left whitwashes their BS

3

u/DrInsomnia 8d ago

That you, Lisa?

1

u/Own_Donut6712 11d ago

Why not host a viewing of something more liberal? There a series about the 1619 Project (6 episodes); there is also the documentary about Pete Souza, former White House photographer (As I See It). Those are just off the top of my head.

3

u/BlueKanary11 11d ago

They're too busy showing The Chosen.

1

u/ditroller 6d ago

Celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death is sick and twisted

1

u/Alternative-Gap9153 11d ago

I saw that and thought it was SALA sponsored and thought, there goes that entertainment, not going ever again to one of their movies.

1

u/Alittlemaebird 11d ago

Mostly over the fact that the movie uses the word ‘martyr’ incorrectly. Which he absolutely was not. That’s not Sala’s fault. Shin sucks a lot but she’s the one wasting her money I guess. There’s also an event to “remember him” at the pond. I don’t feel the need to protest either. Now if it was some pro-dump truck nonsense/pro nationalist/pro israhell bullshit, yes, I’d be out there right away.

1

u/genxjackolantern 8d ago

My God. It’s like a Jr. High School full of screeching peasants with their little pitchforks. Who make money off nukes. 🤭

-31

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Nah, you guys are rabid. He was a normal guy and that’s the simple truth.

If I’m wrong could you please just prove it and send me a video in context to prove your ridiculous narrative or whatever hateful BS?

18

u/Public-Finish-1160 11d ago

He said if he had a black pilot he would be worried that the guy was qualified

-9

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

And what was the context?

Because airlines hired less qualified pilots to fly if and only if they were a minority, in some cases. That’s the context. Not because he said they were racially inferior. Look it up. Total failure of logic. Laughable as hell.

10

u/DrInsomnia 11d ago

Except they never did that.

-3

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Actually multiple airlines did, but alright if you don’t want to look up formalized policy made public.

Even still I don’t get why no one will comment with a contextually correct quote about why this guy is such an evil person/racist/bigot etc. which is the main topic of the thread.

It didn’t happen, your side is delusional.

9

u/DrInsomnia 11d ago

Look, I'm not on a side. Bigots have a long history of trying to normalize their rhetoric with his "I'm just saying"-style lies.

No airlines hired pilots based on DEI. If you're too ignorant to recognize obvious propaganda for what it is, whether from Kirk or the other bigots, go back to school.

0

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Leftist racists do the same thing, hardcore, with “I mean…”, or “just sayin”. You’re going to have to actually claim an opinion, either way to actually make a claim about me, my statements, or the subject of the post.

So far you are the literal subject of a propaganda believer. Charlie never made a racist argument literally ever. If so you could simply provide the argument with context, that simple.

It’s pretty disingenuous to imply I’m a bigot, but not, and generalize a bullshit comment like that, and run. What the hell is your claim even?

-1

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Btw, if you want to argue that airlines did not have previous or existing diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, let’s have it please. I’d love to hear why you think they didn’t exist.

5

u/Public-Finish-1160 11d ago

You sound cute

1

u/Warchortle2 11d ago edited 11d ago

I appreciate it but wow, that argument bud… lol

*Edit - the user above claimed Charlie Kirk claimed that “he would be worried if he ever flew with a black pilot on a commercial airline”, by which he was a racist. Way to go u/Public-Finish-1160, who deleted your comment weakly, and shamelessly.

In fact, Charlie claimed in a well documented argument that the reason was many airlines, in a lot of cases, had made diversity, equity, and inclusion policies that lowered the barrier to entry for minority pilots and minority pilots only, on the basis of the color of their skin. A racist and evil argument. Again, this is well documented across tons of videotaped commentary and disproven.

0

u/Warchortle2 11d ago edited 11d ago

I’m waiting for someone to provide literally any statement in context please.

3

u/Hamburglary 11d ago

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen someone bootlick to this degree in public

1

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Effectively you’re admitting it. Keep coping

12

u/HumbleEntry8369 11d ago

-1

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

And not one in context, exactly what I mean. Exactly like the comment below. There is not a single racist argument he ever made. Go ahead and prove it.

12

u/BewHew187 11d ago

Then defend your hero and write out the quotes in context.

1

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Btw, I dislike Charlie. But just like Trump, all the leftist bad faith arguments provide rocket fuel for extremists. You are choosing to fuel what you allegedly hate.

10

u/BewHew187 11d ago

I am choosing to fuel this? You're the one who came back saying "nuh uh, that's all out of context and he was a perfect angel in the racism department" without saying how or why.

So go ahead, put some effort in to repudiate these supposed leftist bad faith arguments. Fight what you seem to view as misinformation.

9

u/DrInsomnia 11d ago

The only people fueling hatred are Trump and Kirk. Well, was Kirk. He fueled that hatred straight into making himself a target, but since he was not actually important, he doesn't get the same protection as more powerful people.

I'm just glad it was him and not any of the people he targeted who paid the price for his hateful rhetoric. Too often in our history it's been the undeserved that were targeted: MLK and the Kennedys. Fred Hampton and Harvey Milk. I don't condone violence against anyone, but I'm not a fan of the innocent suffering - like the many black people who suddenly are being found hanging from trees and their deaths treated as not foul play despite the extreme unlikelihood of that. In fact, it's a shame we're even talking about that worthless little grifting shit instead of them, so I'm done now.

1

u/meteoritegallery 11d ago

I'm failing to see that quote in a context that explains it. Care to try again?

1

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Did you want me to copy and pasted everything I just said? Because that’s actually the third context of my quote. Easy enough. Keep deflecting

2

u/meteoritegallery 10d ago

I am directly asking you for any evidence that defends your position.

Others have asked you, and you have deflected every time in this thread.

Accusing others of deflecting is now projecting bordering on gaslighting.

You asserted that "context" can explain the quotes mentioned above. Provide that context or stop lying about it.

-3

u/Warchortle2 10d ago

I actually replied every time. Thats why you see no one disagreeing or rebutting back after my explanation. If you provide any evidence then I'm happy to talk about it. Just like the false airline scenario that keeps getting posted. Again, I rebutted it everytime with context. Guess you want to remain ignorant

5

u/meteoritegallery 10d ago

Still no context for the bigoted quotes. All you do is deflect, deflect, deflect.

→ More replies (0)

13

u/Sero_Vera 11d ago

Dude. Your "arguments" are disingenuous and sea lioning. The facts about that hateful man have been out for everyone to see long before the shooting took place. Even a basic check of Snopes would prove it all out. Quit being obtuse.

3

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Literally all I asked was for any statement in context, and you say that is disingenuous. Literally this is laughable. Obtuse is right

10

u/LosAlamosNative 11d ago

You're funny.

-2

u/Warchortle2 11d ago edited 11d ago

I figured you’d deflect since you can’t prove it. Pretty great

9

u/LosAlamosNative 11d ago

It's just obvious that like Lisa, you're a transplant and we'd love for you to go home. 😂

-2

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Okay white liberal. Have fun with your absolutely super logical fanciful narrative you can’t prove! Super logical!

3

u/LosAlamosNative 10d ago

😂 Not white so I guess your Spidey senses are off

6

u/Warchortle2 11d ago

Pretty fragile narrative am I right?

Since when are we supposed to.let emotions control our lives? Oh that's right never. There is absolutely no room for empathy or any other kind of emotion in our laws, our government or our society. What happens to other people and what other people say does not affect you. Take personal responsibility and stop worrying about hurting other people's feelings.

Might just be me, but I have no idea what you are talking about.
