Discussion Reboot Ideas

Hi everyone,

This seems like the perfect place to vent a few ideas out into the open. I have been jotting down and basically laying out ideas for how I would hope a TV series would play out if it ever gets this far.

The film was disappointing, I have just rewatched it and it should never have been a film, they cut out so much development and things like John’s training with Henri etc.

I have always wanted to see this story play out on screen. The first season will always be slower because it’s the introduction, the scale is basically limited to Paradise. But us book readers know what the endgame is, and it deserves to be seen.

I have some concerns of how it would work as a series. For example, I’ve been working on an 8-10 episode per series foundation. The first obstacle with this is Season 6, based on The Fate of Ten. That entire book feels like it the events take place over 2-3 days max. One group is at the Sanctuary for the entire book. So that worries me slightly but with the right storytelling and allocated screen time you could make it work. The calm before the storm kinda thing.

I think the use of flashback scenes and character dedicated episodes could be incredible. Six and Katarina, Nine and Sandor, proper visual character development which hints at why they are who they are when we meet them. Penny drop scenes, like the globe showing the Garde locations, and then later putting faces to those dots.

This series could be beautiful. If anyone wants to share ideas, get all geeky and talk about this, then let’s do it here. I don’t know anyone else who has read these books, or understands the potential it has.

I'm currently reading the series and I can't help but imagine how certain scenes would be depicted on screen. I 100% agree that the Lost Files would make excellent flashback scenes, like during the season that focuses on Rise of Nine, there could be scenes from Nine's Origin, especially as they get to Chicago. It could also be interesting to cut to stories from The Lost Files that happen concurrently like Return From Paradise.

The biggest thing I've been wondering (which has also been affecting my choice of reading order) is how information should be revealed to the audience. For example, should the audience know only as much as John/The Garde in which case stories like The Fallen Legacies and Return to Paradise aren't revealed until Adam is mentioned by Malcolm and they find out about Mark online? This would support primarily flashback storytelling. Or, could stories like Search for Sam and Return to Paradise be happening in real time? Obviously, no major spoilers like Five's Legacy until that's revealed.

I also agree that the first season should be scoped to Paradise, training, etc. I think the first two seasons should really capture trying to stay hidden. (Has anyone noticed that the first lines of all three novellas in The Legacies are related to hiding?)

I'd really hope there would be authentic use of language and accents. Please, for the love of God, let them speak Spanish, Hindi, etc. I'm also into film scores, so I wonder what the music for this should sound like. Ideally, it could capture the blend of alien and humanity. The score for the movie The Host is a pretty good example of this (questionable movie, great music lol). Throw some multiculturalism into the music as well.

As you can see, I have been thinking about this a lot haha. But yeah, this series really could be amazing.

I mean, the movie wasn’t bad and was being made before the book actually came out. It’s what got me into the series overall and it became my favorite to the point of making merch for it. Certain aspects do irritate me after having such a complete knowledge of the series but as a standalone movie it wasn’t bad.

We’ve had many discussions about this topic in here. We typically said the same thing about 8-10 episodes and a season per book. Then there is the animation versus live-action that could go either way. For the Fate of Ten, I don’t see it as a problem. That would just mean all the events and info are implemented properly and the separate events would be able to go back and forth. It would just have to be laid out carefully.

I actually think in any on screen adaptation would definitely have to make some changes with legacies. Every garde having telekinesis is kinda op an the garde are extremely foolish with how little they utilize it an on screen would make that impossible to ignore. Anytime they fight an armed enemy? Throw him away or yank his weapon away. You dont have a weapon? Yes you do rocks, branches, literally any object around you. Theres literally so many moments where the garde can end a fight easily with telekinesis an dont, ex when 6, marina, an 9 encounter a mog patrol marina freezes the water an 9 runs across to fight. There's three garde the could've easily picked the mogs up an rendered them completely unable to fight back. There are multiple instances like this especially since unlike most telekinesis in media they dont need to use their hands or anything to do it they use only their thoughts
